the sports star of kahae
seungjae is that one kid at the back of the class who spends more time at the basketball court than his own house. he's the dumb jock who barely passes his classes and half the time when in class, whether the teacher's talking about some math formula he probably won't remember even if he tried, and even when during basketball practice when the other players are joking around and secretly checking out the cheerleaders next to their court, he's the one completely focused and spends their breaks shooting more hoops. he always keeps a straight face and emotions are pretty much nonexistent to him. the others call him a robot, and no one really knows what he's thinking because he keeps to himself so much. most of the time he spends his time pondering on the next upcoming basketball match, whether the team needed new balls to train with and sometimes — what he's going to be when he grows up. people say that seungjae's completely devoid of feeling things, but watching him at a basketball match would convince you otherwise. seungjae's a very focused person, and rarely gets distracted. he's passionate about the things he loves in life, but at the same time if he doesn't know or you don't matter that much to him, he'll walk past you like you're invisible in the hallways. it's hard to grow close to him because people never know what he's thinking, and he just has this somehow scary presence surrounding him that he's unaware of and just screams "stay away from me!!" from him. when in a conversation with him, you'll probably feel like you're talking to yourself, what with his seemingly limited vocabulary of 'ok', 'uhuh', 'nice' and 'cool'. occasionally he'll throw out the 'how does this relate to me again' and a bored expression — another reason why people don't find him the friendliest person out there. people see him as the guy who's way too serious for his own good, the guy who won't lighten up, and the guy who doesn't ever have a smile on. it doesn't help that he's not the best at studies either, barely passing most of his subjects and even failing a few. he rarely even laughs at jokes — most of the time he's that one guy wondering why everyone's even laughing when someone cracks a joke. "it's humour, hyung!" doesn't translate to him and he simply dismisses it as people who have nothing better to do. seungjae genuinely tries his best at everything he does — yes, even studying, even if it may not seem that way to most. he's a little slow compared to others when it comes to picking up things, which makes him all the more more frustrated, because the people closest to him knows he does try really hard. he's not a perfectionist though, but only because after going through failure so many times it's made him used to giving up. he's no longer surprised when others are picked over him, or if he's the last in class. some call seungjae selfish because he makes pretty snark remarks sometimes, and says things that seem callous or mean, but it's honestly only because seungjae says things before he thinks about it. he may be thoughtless and absent-minded at times, but seungjae really does care. he's the type of person to accompany someone all the way home in the rain if they didn't have an umbrella and he did, and not spare a second thought on it, thinking it's the natural things for humans to do. he's a pretty soft-hearted being and melts at the smallest of things, even if he doesn't show it. a bit of aegyo and cuteness would win him over instantly, and he often gives in to things easily. he doesn't understand people easily, it's true — in fact, most of the time in his head he questions people's logic, but that doesn't mean he won't lend you a shoulder to lean on when you need someone. seungjae's a pretty selfless person, and he'd put everyone before him because he feels that most people deserve things more than him. all in all, seungjae's really a nice guy — he just doesn't know how to show it.

BACKGROUND:
jung seungjae. as the youngest member of south korea's national swimming team, who wouldn't recognize that name? having won a silver medal at the great britain 2012 olympics at the mere age of fifteen, jung seungjae was a household name, having come back a hero. what they didn't know was the torment he suffered behind the scenes. seungjae's mother passed away when he was eight in a car crash, and although seungjae's father had survived, she didn't. seungjae's father, devastated, left seungjae's side and left to japan to start a new business. after all, seungjae was a living reminder of his now deceased wife. as for seungjae? he lived alone, with the butler that his father had hired to take care of him, in his huge mansion that screamed loneliness. along with being homeschooled, seungjae spent almost all of his life in solitude, the time he got to experience the most human interaction was his daily practice with his swimming coach and his other teammates. because he was the younges and some of them had been there longer than seungjae had, it was hard for him to get used to them too, so he wasn't close to anyone in particular there either. life was hard. it got worse after he overexerted himself and didn't tell anyone about it, keeping mum, and as such, injured his shoulder. when the doctor told him and his coach that it would take nearly a year for it to recover, it being a serious injury, seungjae couldn't help but cry. swimming was the one passion he had in life anymore, and to have that taken away from him? what would he do? his older sister, jinri suggested for seungjae to try to lead a normal life like kids his age, and amidst his protests, moved him to kahae, which is where he is now. it's easy to say that not many people have the best impression of him, since he doesn't really talk much to people and they mistake this for him thinking that they're too 'low' for him, when in all honesty he's just constantly caught up in his own thoughts of going back to swimming.
