PART ONE: BEHIND THE WRITING OF YOUNG & WASTED
 

1. Where do you get the idea to write this fanfic from?

Honestly speaking, this is an AU from my favourite TV series called Skins. It’s not originally from me, you see. If you watch Skins, you may notice a few scenes that are slightly similar. Skins have three generation and every generation is different characters. I kind of mixed all the three generation’s characteristics and apply them to the gang.

2. Who is the main character of this series?

Er, actually all of them are the main characters. But the one I focused on the most is Jackson. And I wrote way too many Jackson scenes, don’t you think? I realized this when I read a review and I went… Oh… I did write too many Jackson scenes.

3. What are the struggles you faced when writing this series?

Obviously trying to divide all the scenes for each character equally. Which I failed to do so. My plan for this story was; once the characters are less messed up and happy, I’ll ignore them. That’s why, if you notice, when Jinyoung and Myunghee moved in, I wrote less about them because they found their ways. I stopped writing a bit about Mark because his side of the story was irrelevant.

4. Why choose GTN7? Why not make this an apply fanfic?

Back before I even had the desire to write this sort of fic, I was head over heels for GOT7. They were the only thing I could talk about all day and back then, I only had one fanfic here (Gang Table Number 7) and I used to ramble with my cousins about the fanfic a lot (if you guys noticed, two of the readers— who are also loyal commenters— are cousins of mine) and I joked, “So I feel like smoking. Do you guys fancy a ?”

And they went, “Are you out of your mind?!”

Now, relax, I am not a smoker. Haha. And despite the fact that smoking is something that I’m tempted to do, I decide not to. So I made up my mind that I do want to smoke, but not in real life. Thus was why I decide to make a different fanfic featuring GTN7; but with different attitudes.

5. You said this is an AU of Skins. Could you please elaborate more about this?

For viewers of Skins, you guys might realize that, yes, there are few scenes that are very familiar. Let’s start from Hyunju, shall we?

Hyunju’s character is based on Cassie (GEN1) and Effy (GEN2). Cassie is an aneroxic — she suffers from eating disorder. And as you know, Hyunju is bulimic. Effy, meanwhile, was portrayed as a girl who just knows how to have fun. But despite the fact she was adored by boys and girls, she was lacking something and she yearns for it. What is it? Affection.

Myunghee’s character is based on Minnie (GEN3). In Skins, Minnie is hot and perfect but truth be told, she was just a . The similarity that both Myunghee and Minnie shared is that both are gorgeous… but ended up getting pregnant by someone whom they never thought they’d end up with.

Jinyoung’s character is based on Alo (GEN3) and also Thomas (GEN2). In the show, Alo ends up with Minnie. [SPOILER ALERT OOPS] and Alo, really wants to get laid. Jinyoung does want to get laid, if you guys noticed. And Thomas, is a drugdealer. He did this to help his family. Same goes to Jinyoung.

Jackson’s character is based on Cook (GEN2). Cook is a daredevil, he do what he wants but you can say that he’s quite ed up a bit. Especially since he did not have a good women rolemodel in his life.

Mark’s character is based on Tony (GEN1). Tony is handsome, smart, tall… in other words, he’s perfect. Tony is the ‘handsome’ one in the group, and so is Mark. Tony, despite the fact he has a girlfriend, likes another girl only to realize that he still loves his girlfriend when they’ve broken up. So yeah. [FUN FACT: Effy and Tony are siblings. Oops. No though]

Yugyeom’s character is based on JJ (GEN2). JJ is cute and innocent and he’s gullible. Just like our Yugi.

SKINS actually contains homouality and I was thinking of making one of the guys gay but I think there are more fics than yuri fics out there, innit? So I decided to make Iseul the one who is confused about her own uality. Her character is inspired by Naomi (GEN2) but the only difference is, Iseul has a boyfriend.

And oh, remember Sunkyu? She is based on Sophia (GEN2), the girl who committed suicide.

6. Can you write an alternative ending?

The answer is no. I have planned for it to end this way so yeah. But I am currently writing the remake so….
 

PART TWO: CHARISEUMA’S PERSONAL LIST FOR YOUNG & WASTED.

1. Favourite official pairing?

It would be Jinronghee [Jinyoung/Myunghee]. Why? Because it seemed like they were made for each other. Just like Jinyoung said, “They say the first time is just an accident. Second is coincidence and the third is destiny”. They were best friends, for ’s sake, and best friends weren’t supposed to twice. Jinyoung mentioned it but they did it again anyway. And I sort of like that Jinyoung kept on wanting answers from Myunghee but Myunghee tried to push him away when it was obvious that she had a crush on him too.

2. Favourite unofficial pairing?

Markgyeom lol jk it has to be Jackju [Jackson/Hyunju]. I never planned for these two to have any shipper but hey, there are some people who like crack ships, yes? I’m one of you guys lol. But anyways, Jackson’s feelings towards Hyunju at the end of the episodes are blank space (baby I’ll write your name) for the readers to get imaginative and it was for the readers to decide what they want to believe.

Yes, it’s true it seems like Jackson really do have feelings for her — but once again, let me remind you that it is for you to decide what Jackson feel towards her — but in my opinion, he does have a soft spot for her. Maybe he does like her, but he doesn’t know it yet. At the end of the series, he finally realized what it feels like to be abandoned by the one you truly love and he decided that maybe, now that he knows how it feels, he wanted to spend the rest of his days with someone who understand how it feels — which is Hyunju.

It’s like, to him, they share a special bond. Notice how pissed he was when he was not the first one to be informed that she was hospitalized again, yeah? That is for you guys to decide but this is just from my own perspective. He finally realized that he does want to stay with her, now that he has no one for him to go to, because he knew Hyunju needed him most. So yeah.

3. Why do you kill Hyunju?

Because I have the power to do so and because I feel like it. Nah, I kind of have a soft spot for her so I decided that I should kill her. I think it’s because she’s so depressing and I could quite relate to her. We are all humans, there are times when we feel like we want to kill ourselves, so instead of doing this to myself, I let it out to Hyunju. You see, having a character of your own feels like you have a second life. Since this is Young & Wasted, I feel like wasting that second life. Hohohoho.

4. Your favourite character?

Hm. I don’t have a favourite character but I think it would be Iseul. Why? Because she’s the type of person I would like to be. She likes taking a little bit of risks and she didn’t really give a damn about what people think about her. She’s honest to herself and I like that. Some of you may despise her for cheating on Jackson, but in my opinion, she was not literally cheating. She was merely discovering a new side of her.

Notice that she actually never wants to get pregnant. But then, she is the most excited person in the universe when she knew Myunghee was pregnant. This shows that she does love kids, but was afraid of having one. Eh, you get me now? This is part of the reason why she chose girls over boys.

5. Your least favourite?

I don’t have the least favourite either but if I do….. it’ll be Hyunju. She’s pathetic and stubborn and miserable. I hate to be her to be honest. I hate that Yugyeom actually had her back, but she chose to torture herself and longs for Mark instead.

6. Favourite episode?
   My favourite would be Episode 2: A Friend We Don’t Remember!

7. Least favourite episode?
   Any episodes that have Stephanie aren’t my favourite. I am totally against .

8. Favourite friendship?
   Myunghee/Iseul and also Jinyoung/Hyunju. I can’t choose between both. I like Myungseul because despite the fact that Iseul can be a total , she actually deeply cares about Myunghee. I like Jinju (lol) because their friendship is the type that will never be broken by liking each other. In other words, it is confirmed that Hyunju will never like Jinyoung and Jinyoung will never like her ‘like that’.

9. Favourite scenes?
   Back in the first series, one of my favourite scenes happened in Episode 2: Myunghee. The part when Jinyoung saved Myunghee only to offend her the next five minutes he saved her . I really like that, lol. And also Episode 7: Yugyeom, when she openly stated with confidence that she knew Yugyeom’s crush towards her.
   Honestly there are a lot of scenes that I really like and one of it would be in Episode 11: If Only God Is Listening. The part where Iseul and Krystal talked. I kind of liked the chemistry between the two. I also like the part when Sunkyu was about to jump in Episode 1: The Girl Named Sunkyu.

10. Least favourite scenes?
    God, my least favourite scenes would be where I had to write Jackson/Stephanie moments. As I mentioned earlier, I am totally against . Also, the part where Hyunju committed suicide. Honestly, I had no idea how she was supposed to kill herself. Originally, I imagined her jumping off the rooftop. But eventually I go with overdosing. Might be unreasonable for doctors/nurses to left a patient with medicines but hey, let’s just imagine Hyunju was the cause and the reason why doctors do not trust patients handling their own medicines. Lol I don’t even know I’m so sorry.

11. Favourite line from the episodes?
    It’s got to be from Series 2 Episode 20 – “But to Iseul, it was just Mark’s way of punishing himself. And it was just their little boy, Yugyeom, finally being able to lose control.”

PART THREE: WHAT IF… (&+ WHY)

1. What if Hyunju did not die?

I seriously could not imagine her continue living, honestly. She’s been hospitalized too many times. I imagined that if she did not actually commit suicide, she’d die from starving herself and also all the drugs a few years later.

2. What if Hyunju did not die and gets better?

Well, if she gets better, she would certainly end up with Yugyeom — which, sadly, is out of pity. But sooner or later, she’d love him back. She would finally realize the importance of loving oneself and despite the fact that she was with Mark, they would still become friends. And everything just gets better… and she’d fight with Iseul (because both of them wanted Myunghee’s baby to be named after them).

3. What if Kibum did not marry Jessica?

Obviously, Iseul would not meet Krystal. But Iseul is still biual though; she’d prefer girls over boys any time. Even though not meeting Krystal would extend her relationship with Jackson, she would definitely still end up breaking up with him for another girl.

4. What if Yugyeom had a girlfriend?

If Yugyeom had a girlfriend, everything would be easier but that’s not how drama works.

5. What if Myunghee did not get pregnant?
   Myunghee would still end up with Jinyoung, one way or another. But if she did not get pregnant, she would not run away from her family to live with Jinyoung.

6. What if Mark did not fall in love with Myunghee?
   As mentioned earlier, Mark never stayed in one place for too long. Hyunju was the longest he ever been with, so perhaps, they would end their relationship in good terms and move to another girl.

7. Why did Hyunju’s parents abandoned her? Don’t they know she’s just a kid?
   Hyunju had a younger sister who was apparently a Brainiac in the family who was offered a scholarship to study in Bristol. Hyunju was the least favourite kid as because she was older, she thought that she would actually be okay living alone rather than letting their younger kid to live alone in the foreign country.

8. Hyunju mentioned that she did not know her parents’ phone numbers and emails but Jackson eventually found it written in one of her books. Why?
   She lied. She did not want Jackson to leave her so she lied. Besides, she keep it for emergency, which, unfortunately, she did not tell anybody.
