---------------------------- Novel to Series Comparison -----------------------------

Lovesick Season 2, Episode 13: The One With

Chapters: 35 and 36 (full and 1/2)

I’ll admit that, I judged this episode based solely on the English Subbed trailer so I was already walking in dreading it. Now that there is some clarity with I’ll say that it’s not a bad episode. It technically is the episode I was looking for the past few weeks. For that, I apologize for stepping on people’s toes. However I still stick to what I say about a certain part.

Differences and Missing/Added Parts

1.) PhuNoh was delicious

I know it might seem like I have a heart of ice but that’s not completely true. After complaining for how long in these reviews I was so happy about almost all the PhuNoh parts. In the novel, they are supposed to be like this and the series helped us get the feel. It’s finally the period in the story where PhuNoh can be stagnant. They enjoy each other’s company whole heartedly. The beginning was shot beautifully I’d watch it several times and still be smiling with their interactions. I give the production team credit where it’s due and it was done amazingly well.

2.) Yuri, don’t be so innocent

I’m one of the few that’s “okay” with Yuri in both the novel and the series. I’ve noticed a ton viewers dislike her character. I think she has her moments of annoyance but she can be genuinely kind hearted. She’s naïve and innocent, but also ignorant. In the Novel however she’s a bit darker in the chapter that corresponds to this episode. She straight up whines to Noh that she thinks Phun is cheating on Aim but in the series it’s kind of brushed off. I think I would have liked seeing her not being her cheeky self and just be a total for once

3.) Plot and Dialogue changes

If I were going to point out every little change, this post would be 2 pages long. I’ll just touch on the more interesting ones.

Phun and Noh talking after the arranged date with Yuri was cute. It begs the question though, if you didn’t even want to answer her calls, why are you still pretend dating her? You even seemed to have a ton of fun dating her at the A&W so I don’t understand your reluctance. I was wrong how Phun said his phrase to Pang however it’s still hypocritical.

The line Yuri gives after hearing Phun say that kind of points it out. It also came off passive aggressive where in the Novel, Phun was very mature about the situation. It was one of the few times Phun had a stronger grasp over his emotions and showed that he was learning from all this insecure jealousy. It was done “okay” but I liked the Novel version better, less drama and more maturity.

Lastly, the drinking session was the gayest drinking session I’ve ever seen for 16-17 year old boys. Not the derogatory meaning, I literally mean gay as in boy on boy, homoual, gay. The lights were bright, two guys popped wearing flowery aprons, and they looked so excited about asking whether a guy banged another guy. My mind imagined a fairly dim room with orangish lighting from the street lamps outside as they had beers in an ice bucket and had the soup in the middle for drinking food. I was thinking very manly, rustic, sepia-tonish type setting with rock music playing in the background on a low volume. I was disappointed but beggars can’t be choosers.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An irked moment:

Worst set of adults EVER. We have a teacher more concerned about the name of the school than the teen who might be having bigger problems, a crook who can be easily sued but is somehow getting away with his , and a parent who’s so oblivious with the life of his own daughter. You wonder if they even live under the same roof. I said I wanted Jeed’s character to get better, not to on her. -_-

Positives the Episode brought:
- PhuNoh moments making us feel Lovesick Again

- PerWin moments

- Ohm just being himself

- Khom is alive and looking Sharp :P

-  Yuri and Noh have a good chemistry

- PerWin’s musical sound track really pops out

- The use of no actual talking in the opening scene but conveying their emotions was perfect

Overview:

1.) PHUNOH <3

2.) Be a please

3.) Questionable Changes

Personal Opinion:

I’ve basically said everything about the main plot so I think I need to dive into the side plots instead.

Firstly, pretty sure Pang is a psychopath or has amnesia. Although her fortune cookie advice paid off in the end, her radical way of thinking that the couples in her mind should be together combined with her rich family and manipulative nature spells out future criminal for me.

Speaking of crazy people let’s talk about Grace. She must be one of those Men in Black Agents because every time she says something obviously evil she flashes them with that amnesia tool in the shape of a . Literally everything she does screams evil. How does she have friends? It boggles the mind.

PerWin is touched on a little bit. Apparently Win’s dad is still beating him, therefore breaking his and Per’s agreement. Although two wrongs don’t make a right, a breach in an agreement does mean that all previous rules fly out the window.

I know Jeed is one of the most disliked characters in the series. She’s superficial, makes a ton of bad choices, and insults her “friends” and her parents. We get it, she’s bad, but damn are they just rubbing her face in the mud. I want her to grow into someone likable, not constantly bashed over the head by everyone in her path. It also feels like they forgot they advertised Mo and Jeed to be close this season. Teaser showed them being together, the first episode had them hanging out after school. Mo is even the first person she called when she was conflicted between Khom and Neung. It’s like they had one writer write for the first 8 episodes then switched places with another writer but forgot to tell them that Mo and her are supposed to be good friends. They even have Mo taking Graces side when she hated her guts all season 1. I JUST WANT CONSICTENCY!
