Thirty Percent True (BTS)

This is a blog post with the media events that account for the events that take place off-page in Thirty Percent True -- this blog post will get updated along with every new chapter. While Thirty Percent True is also a fic dedicated to all Jinmark-shippers, I wanted to include my research so that the jokes and the references are accessible to anyone reading.

NON-THREATENING

(INTERLUDE #1)

Based on the S01E01 of Real GOt7, titled "JB's Birthday".

  • The production crew give the boys (minus JB) W30,000 in total to buy birthday gifts for Jaebum
  • The boys sort the money through a game -- Jinyoung wins W2,000 and buys pens. Mark wins W7,000 and buys a book full of blank sheet music. Suspiciously complementary gifts, much?
  • Jackson uses his W3,000 earned to buy packets of budaejigae and sundubu. At 12:00, he exclaims "SUNDUBUUUU" in a rather comic manner. Or at least in my opinion :P

(INTERLUDE #2)

Based on S01E05 and S01E06 of  Real GOT7

  • In ep. 5, the boys play a prank on Yugyeom by falsely accusing him of putting interviews before band rehearsals. Yugyeom accepts his guilt and pleads them to forgive him. At the end of the prank, it brings Yugyeom to tears.
  • In ep. 6, Mark kisses Princess Nyoungie before he slaps his wrist (14:38)
    • The two also hold hands for a few seconds (17:50)

GOSH, HE'S ADORABLE

A continuation off of Interlude #2, also based on S01E06 of Real GOT7 and the moments of affection that were apparent between Mark and Princess Nyoungie.

  • After doing some additional research, I learned that Jinyoung's room isn't actually in the living room of the apartment (I don't know where that idea came from) but that he has his own dorm.
    • Seeing as it would also have been cool for these characters to have their own little private sanctuary (wink) at the apartment, I gave a reason for why Jinyoung moved rooms :P

(INTERLUDE #3)

Reference to the third episode of iGOT7 where the boys court Suzy from Miss A.

(INTERLUDE #4)

There is a reference to the fourth episode of IGOT7 where Mark kisses an unsuspecting Jinyoung on the cheek.

Also, the song used in this interlude is Rather Be by Clean Bandit -- this is also what the interlude is titled after.

SLEEPLESS IN SEOUL

There isn't actually any references in this to actual GOT7 media, hence the entire fic is Thirty Percent True. Still, I tried to keep some details in check with the current timeline. Godzilla was released in May 2014, near the cusp of the era of their debut period. What I find funny is that, although the JYP building rooftop could be plausibly accessed by artists of JYP, the height of the building isn't so tall. Still, it served as a perfect place for our two lovers to finally smooch it up.

(INTERLUDE #5)

This is in connection to a performance of Bounce that GOT7 did, perhaps due to the fact that Jaebum and Jinyoung are both originally from the JJ project. If you watch the entire clip, there choreo involves Mark twerking, albeit terribly, and then Jinyoung doing a much more artful twerk a several minutes after.

(INTERLUDE #6)

While I've had trouble researching how it happened or the nature of the injury, for several episodes of the second season of iGOT7 Jinyoung appeared with a wrist brace. The Skype call that occurs in this interlude is based off a really cute GIF from Tumblr, where Jinyoung receives a webcam call from Mark, which I will find and link (my laptop is about to run out of battery as I write this.

ROCKET

Obviously, there's nothing no real implication that Jinyoung and Mark ever got... naughty. The name of this chapter comes from Beyonce's song Rocket, coming from her self-titled album. It's funny though, because I've been listening to a lot of Amy Winehouse lately, though Rocket fit the bill.

Much of what does happen in this chapter is based from personal experience. When I first had intimate physical contact with someone, I couldn't stop giggling. To this day I still do, but unlike before when it was inhibitory, it's now just a little thing that happens next the the playful frenzying. I also got pushed off a couch once when making out, because the other boy's grandmother had come home a little earlier than expected.

(INTERLUDE #7)

  • The filming mentioned was for a small GOT7 focus piece on Rising Idol, which can be found here.
  • The fanfic referenced was The Wedding Date by theninjatuna, which is actually my favourite JinMark fanfic. I highly suggest reading it if you haven't!

(INTERLUDE #8)

  • There is reference to an episode of iGOT7 where pair up and catch fish with their bare hands. In subsequent games, Jinyoung and Mark lose. As punishment, they're forced to watch their teammates eat the fish they caught earlier. To make up for their loss, Mark promises Jinyoung to take him out to dinner as soon as they return back to the dorm.

RAIN OR SHINE

  • There are no references to previous media, though some of the anecdotes draw from my own personal experiences
  • I wrote this chapter after having met someone from Korea who openly identifies as gay. His father found out when he was twelve and he was beaten up because of it. I also always wanted to write a chapter that makes note of the reality of gay people in certain parts of the world.
    • I apologize for the turn to angst this chapter took.

(INTERLUDE #9)

  • No real references in this interlude, except for how Youngjae always appears to be the most squeamish when it comes to skinship with the other teammates :P

(INTERLUDE #10)

  • The temple buildings is in reference to an episode of iGOT7, where the boys spent a day at a temple for both a meal and a trivia competition between the foreigners Mark, Bambam, and Jackson.

PROTECT

  • No real references here.

(INTERLUDE #11)

  • In early 2015, Yugyeom and Mark visited L.A. together.

(INTERLUDE #12)

  • Reference to the special video from iGOT7, where the group wrote letters to each other. The english-subbed version of the video was pulled down, but the transcript can be found here.

ORPHEUS

  • No real references here.
  • The title refers to the hero from Greek Mythology
    • The legend tells of a man named Orpheus who's bride is bitten by a snake and dies on their wedding night. Unable to accept her fate, he ventures to the underworld to rescue her soul.
