I was doing my english project for school and i had to do some publicising for it, so i took to twitter - only to find out that #RIPLKY was trending on twitter. To most of us, we might not even take notice of it since there's a shindong tag at the bottom, but to most singaporeans, including myself - for the lack of a better word - feel sad. In 1965, mr lee kuan yew cried on national television for the split up for malaya and singapore. And 50 years later, the whole nation is crying for him.

I'm definitely not one to mourn over someone's death. Cry - most definitely. But somehow, i feel this upsetting feeling at the back of my throat, to the point where i don't feel like i can say anything. Like most Singaporeans know, Mr Lee is a great man. With the help of the united nations, Mr Lee was able to develop singapore economically with the help of the other founding fathers of Singapore. From the fishing village we once were, to the small trading port, Singapore is now a developing first world country.

It's really depressing, honestly. It's been 50 years since Singapore's independence. And the whole nation is really hyped up about it. However, the man who helped us achieve this won't be here, on August 9, to celebrate the day with us. While watching news today, it isn't rocket science to know that the news was about lee kuan yew's memorial. Heartwarminly enough, I didn't just see Singaporeans there. I saw europeans, americans, malaysians. Heck, even on  twitter i saw football clubs and north korean mourning of Mr Lee's death. This is the racial harmony he was talking about. And it's such a damn pity that he isn't able to notice this in person.

Yes, Mr Lee does have his flaws. He sues people for going against him during elections, he makes mistakes and many people are unhappy with the government as well because of the high cost of living compared to our salaries. But everyone's forgetting how, without Mr Lee's leadership, abilities and capabilities, Singapore wouldn't be where we are today. I won't have a laptop and i won't be able to update, much less publish summer 09! This might be an exaggeration but i'm pretty confident that my life won't be as comfortable as it is today - without him.

I really don't know where i'm going besides - Mr Lee really is a great man. And i regret not appreciating him earlier. but people are like this huh, always taking things for granted. 50 years ago, he cried for the nation. and 50 years later, the whole nation cries for him.

Those who actually read to this point i want to give you two thumbs up because this is really disorganised and i'm quite sad right now so- i'm going to quickly end this here before i ramble. This definitely isn't the first LKY message on aff and i hope it won't be the last. KEY POINT HERE! TREASURE ALL YOUR MINISTERS!  jks unless they're bad. To sum this all up, i'm just glad that I've been born long enough to know Mr Lee Kuan Yew as a legend, and not a historical figure.
