He's good at making people understand him and fall for his words without even saying much. Jaehyun easily becomes friends with anyone he meets. If you had to only pick one word to describe Jaehyun besides charming, it'd have to be passionate. Whatever he does he puts he all into no matter what. His love for dance shows through his words and the look of love in his eyes. Whether it being in his career or his love life, he makes sure everything he does shows how passionate he is. At the age of 4, Jaehyun's father has his first heart attack. He was rushed to the hospital right away and was able to be helped in time. The second time he has a heart attack is a few days before Jaehyun's birthday, leaving his father bed ridden. On the day of his birthday, his father gives him a cross necklace that he tended to wear on his neck that was given to him as a kid by his father. That day, Jaehyun intended to tell his father that he was gay, but didn't want to make his condition worst, so instead he told his mother, hoping she'd keep it a secret. Her reaction wasn't what he expected, she only nodded with a blank expression on her face and promised to keep it to her self. When Hyun Min dies, Jaehyun is 13, he feels bad that he didn't get to tell his dad the truth, but that is all cleared up when his mom hands him a letter from his dad written to him, saying that he loved him and that he knew all along. That he was happy his son was happy and that he should continue to be happy. Soo Zi snaps and takes it out on Jaehyun, telling him how disgusting he was and how she'd never accept that he's gay.
To help him cope with his lost, Young Ji would often sneak him out of the house and take him to hang around her older brother's friends, who were b-boys. After he began hanging out with them more and more, Jaehyun fell in love with freestyle and dance period. He wanted to dance and be happy. Dancing made him happy, so after practicing for several years, Jaehyun auditions for YG Ent. at the age of 16. He fails the first audition, but is quickly called back to audition again and is accepted. When he became a trainee, he promised himself he block out every negative thing that hurt him in his life and left behind his mother and the bakery. From then on out, he'd be happy and work towards his dream. As a trainee, he's very bubbly and tries to make friends while working hard on his dancing. He doesn't mention his father's death and only stays in touch with Young Ji back home.

Jaehyun is really clingy and sticks to him as much as he can. He annoys him all the time without even trying. Though on occasions, he brings out Jaehyun's serious and mature side, which is something only he can do. Jaehyun doesn't know if the guy is gay or not, so he tries to play off his closeness as just friendly skinship and nothing more. They hang out with each other more than any other trainee and sometimes share the same bed. At times, when they're both tired and lonely, they cuddle without saying a word though Jaehyun is scared he isn't the way he thinks he is.
