Tea on Thursdays

Kim Jongwoon has been the owner of the Vintage Emporium for a number of years. Tucked into a corner in a now bustling shopping mall, the store stood quietly between a number of other small trinket shops. Inside, a thin layer of dust covered most of the store and its items, despite Jongwoon's continual attempts at cleaning. The store was like a home to him, smells of old musk and hints of his daily coffee all to familiar.

The store was never filled with great amounts of business, apart from the odd individual or two who ventured into the store with captured curiosity from the display window outside. Mostly, Jongwoon was left on his own in the empty shop throughout the workday, listening to the shops collection of old records, tapping along to the beat and singing along to the old jazz tunes.

The one day that was an exception to this however, was every Thursday at 2pm. The day had readily become Jongwoon's favourite over the weeks, and as the jingle of the doors welcome bell rung, it signified the arrival of his favourite [and only] regular customer.

The familiar boy gave a small smile to the front of the store where Jongwoon stood, before making his way through the worn store. Although he had never spoken to the him past the words 'welcome' and 'thank you', Jongwoon had come to know the boy off by heart, weeks of observing him from his place at the counter helping to commit the short, slender frame to memory.

Today he was slightly bundled up, Jongwoon couldn't help but note, reflecting the autumn weather of the world outside. The dark denim jeans that clung to his legs were slightly covered by the large lavender sweater draped over his frame. Running his fingers through his chestnut fringe, it flopped back to sit in place just slightly over his eyes, helping to define his high cheekbones.

Jongwoon continued to observe the peculiar boy as he came to a stop at the back of the store as he always did, by an old cabinet that was filled with a range of antique teacups. The shelves were completely covered in the pieces of china, each decorated with a range of different intricate designs. It was the only part of the store than Jongwoon had managed to keep relatively dust free, in his attempt to make a [somewhat] good impression on his adorable customer.

The boy contemplated the shelves for a moment before picking up one of the teacups situated near the bottom of the display. Jongwoon watched as the boy turned the teacup in his hand, almost mesmerised as he followed the intricate weaving pattern on the side of the cup with his fingers. Breaking from the spell, the small boy continued to go through the rest of the cabinet before finally settling on the first teacup.

He made his way to the front counter where Jongwoon stood, clutching the cup safely in his hands before gently placing it on the counter-top in front of Jongwoon. As Jongwoon moved to ring up the purchase, he mused to himself how the delicateness of the teacup reflected the boy that was currently standing in front of him.

As silence wrapped around the two of them, the desire to speak bubbled up inside of Jongwoon until he looked up at the boy determined.

"So...you like teacups?"

Startled, the boy looked up from his hands, eyes wide and face quickly turning a bright red. Cursing himself for being so reckless, Jongwoon immediately turned around to avoid the deep chocolate eyes that stared up at him.

The silence returned, now awkward as Jongwoon diligently wrapped the cup in bubble wrap. A quiet voice suddenly spoke up from over his shoulder, causing him to whip around.

"My grandmother used to teach me about all the different teacups she collected. When she passed away and gave all the cups to me, I decided that I would keep on collecting them for her... which I hope she doesn't mind because I mean she had a really nice collection and I don't want to mess it up by adding something she wouldn't like and--" the boy suddenly stopped, hands which were just frantically waving around flying to his mouth.

"I'm so sorry I'm rambling! I don't mean to but I just tend to do it when I'm nervous you know? Well, actually, you wouldn't know... How would you know? Wait no, what I mean is..."

Jongwoon smiled at how cute the boy was, face now a light pink as he ran circles around himself with his words. After a minute of just observing how adorable he found him, Jongwoon let out a chuckle and finally spoke up to help put an end to the poor boys nervousness.

"That's really nice of you--"

"Ryeowook"

"--Ryeowook. I'm sure you're grandmother would love anything picked out by you."

A blinding smile lit up Ryeowook's face at those words, blush coming back as he mumbled a small 'thank you' while avoiding Jongwoons amused gaze.

"I'm Jongwoon, its really nice to meet you Ryeowook" he said, as he stuck out his hand, which was clasped by a soft, warm hand moments later.

To Jongwoon's amazement, Ryeowook's smile grew even larger as he stared up at him with bright eyes.

"Its nice to meet you as well" he said, as the two of them stood there just smiling at each other.

Jongwoon eventually let go of the hand in his, clearing his throat awkwardly as he turned to grab Ryeowook's purchase. Placing the teacup in a bag with the utmost care, Jongwoon spun back around to face the quiet boy, ing the bag into his bewildered face.

"Thank you for shopping at the Vintage Emporium" Jongwoon blurted out as a light pink dusted his own cheeks under the watchful gaze of the boy in front of him.

He watched a small smile grace Ryeowook's face as he bowed in thanks and made his way towards the entrance of the small shop. It's only when Ryeowook was half way out the door, bell once again jingling, that he turned around, his small voice filling the store.

"See you next week Jongwoon!" He called to the stunned Jongwoon, frozen in awe as the blushing, grinning boy practically bolted out of his store.

There is a smile on Jongwoon's face the rest of the day, almost giddy as he belted out the old love song being played on the record player. For some reason, he just couldn't wait for next Thursday, and that smile, to come around.
