Watching the Ball Drop
The Start of ForeverKyuhyun and I took a seat in a cafe near the place where they would drop the ball this year. It as a little like tradition in New York for the ball to drop during the last minute of the year. Kyuhyun and I were having a hot cup of coffee and we waited for a special guest. Kyuhyun was concentrated on the road and I was concentrated at looking at his face.
"Kyuhyun?" I called
He looked at me, "Y-yeah?"
"You ready?" I asked
He swallowed and his lips and it made me want to it more, "Yes" he spoke
I reached across the table and touched his hand and smiled, "Babe, I'm sure you'll do just fine see him" I spoke
HE looked at me, "What would I do without you?" he asked
"I bet you'd me miserably married to Hee Young" I hissed
He chuckled, "I bet I would be"
"And you'd be going to the bar every night, hoping you can find a way to get out of the worst marriage ever" I continued to insult the woman that I hated ever since I saw her
He continued to chuckle, "Yes, babe. You're the best thing that ever happened to me" he whispered
"I know" I said proudly
"Kyuhyun? Min Ri?" a man stood in front of us
Kyuhyun and I stood up and we bowed and payed respect, "Annyeong!" we greeted
"Annyeong!" he bowed back and we sat
"Would like coffee?" Kyuhyun asked politely and I smiled at his warm-hearted offer towards his father
"Yes" he smiled and continued to look at Kyuhyun and me
Kyuhyun called for a waiter and ordered American roasted coffee. When he was done, he turned his attention towards me and his father and then he spoke, "Mr. Shin . . . "
"Appa. Call me appa" his father spoke
Kyuhyun breathed in sharply and he looked at me. I touched his hand and gave him a reassuring smile. He smiled back and then he looked at his father, "Appa . . ." Kyuhuyn muttered the words like it was his first time
His father smiled at him, looking like he was about to cry, "Adeul . . . " he whispered
"I'm sorry I neglected you" Kyuhyun spoke
"Son, I'm sorry I left you. I'm sorry I was a coward with you and your mother. I'm sorry I became immature about you" he apologozed and then he stood up and so did Kyuhyun. Mr. Shin wrapped his arms around Kyuhyun's shoulder and so did Kyuhyun. This is the first time I've seen Kyuhyun express so much love, except around me of course. He looked so happy and contented and satisfied. Kyuhyun pulled away and his father ruffled his hair and Kyuhyun smiled.
His father turn his attention to me, "Min Ri, thank you so much" he smiled
I stood up and bowed, "You're welcome, sir" I spoke and sat down again
Kyuhyun and his father sat again and they started talking about how their life went. At that moment, as I watched the two men talking, I've come to know Kyuhyun more and his father more. Apparently, Kyuhyun's father was always watching him from afar because he didn't want to disturb Kyuhyun's peaceful life. So, he didn't have a choice but to watch his son grow up from a distance.
"Well, son, congratulations with the twins" his father patted his back
"Thanks, appa" Kyuhyun smiled
His father turned his attention towards me, "Min Ri, you did well with my son" he spoke, "If only you could remember. Kyuhyun would do anything for you. I know. I've been watching him" he smiled at me
I laughed a little, "Thanks, appa" I smiled at him
After a few minutes, the count down started. There were only sixty seconds until the year would finally end. Everyone around us were running towards where the ball would drop that night. Mr. Shin, Kyuhyun and I stood up and watched from afar. I looked at the big clock in New York and saw that there were only thirty more seconds until the year ended.
There I was, thinking and reflecting on everything that happened and everything that I remembered. I'm eighteen. I'm married to Cho Kyuhyun, my former Economics teacher during my Senior year. I'm pregnant with my twins, Daehwa and Inhyu. I have a best friend named Min Hee and she's dating our English teacher, Lee Donghae. I have frineds: Min Ra, Taemin, Key, Onew, Minho, Jonghyun, and Kim. Henry and Kim were dating, Henry was Kyuhyun's youngest brother. I have fourteen brother-in-laws: Leeteuk, Siwon, Hangeng, Heechul, Ryeowook, Eunhyuk, Sungmin, Henry, Donghae, Shindong, Kibum, Kangin, Yesung and Zhoumi. I have a big family who loves me and who cares for me. I have my loved ones with me.
"5 . . . 4 . . . 3. . . 2 . . .1! HAPPY NEW YEAR!" all of us shouted in unison and Kyuhyun turned his attention to me, "Happy New Year, babe!" he shouted and I laughed and we kissed.
It all ended this way. The new year came and the old year ended. Kyuhyun and I were about to start a new chapter in our lives together with our friends and family. It was me, Kyuhyun, Daehwa and Inhyu.
Life is weird. There are times when you're completely happy and sometimes, you were depressed and upset and you'd feel like you're worthless. Everything in life seemed so blurry and unclear and unsure. But there was only one thing that you'd be sure. Life goes on.
Life goes on no matter what. Life goes on even though you're in love with your teacher. Life goes on even though a friend was miles and miles away from you. Life goes on even though you forgot everything that happened for the past year.
Life goes on . . . it does and it always will . . .
