All five members of 5 Pieces begins to smile when their cute song has ended and the main track from their third album in 2012 begins to play. The audience is warm and hot with 5 Pieces for the charity concert and the ladies are pumped up. An intense dance routine with sharp movements, a powerful electric pop song and 5 Pieces with their dancers being like soldiers when performing last year’s hit song [Black & White]. Maria makes her diva entrance when starting to sing her part;

Still with her head being weird for the intense dance, Hannah is ready for her part after Julia’s. With two long steps she gets up between Emelia and Carolina, following their dance while stepping forward, singing her first line.

For the last line, Hannah knows what the audience is waiting for. It was her trademark last year for their comeback and it has stuck with her this year too. Maria has her voice and diva-personality (the way she makes her entrance at the beginning of the song); Emelia has her low voice, ghost-like face and amazing rap; Hannah has this part of the song.

Her left hand is free, held in a fist (the right hand holding the microphone), hitting the air as a punch straight to the right. Like a boxer, she does it, and the audience is cheering along when Hannah then does a strong side-kick that like always receives a wild scream from the audience. Hannah loves doing that because of the reaction. The audience screams to each member, to certain parts and always the same ones, but it is always fun when it happens during your own part

Maria hits every tone perfectly like always, getting an impressed roar from the audience for each flawless adlib she has. Emelia gets the best response among them all during her rap; Carolina has a bunch of girls loudly screaming when she winks out at the audience for her short rap.

Eight songs so far and three left. Hannah has gotten sweaty, being out of breath, but she keeps smiling along with her members. They are performing for a good cause; they were invited to perform here because women in this country had voted for them. She can’t stop thinking of that. Dizzy or not, this is what 5 Pieces loves to do – perform, receive screams for everything they do during their performances, getting to know that people love their music and love to see just this. They take the new positions for the next song, the last dance track for the evening. Maria makes a face when turning away from the audience, mouthing that is getting tired. Thought she says that, Hannah knows Maria will sing loudly and clear for the last three songs, because that is just how Maria does on the stage. Hannah has no idea of how her voice can stay so clear and flawless even when being tired; she isn’t human.

Hannah wipes her forehead with her thumb, glancing down to do it a little secretly and she smiles because Maria tells the ladies without the microphone that they are doing good; a small word with big meaning between them, and Hannah then puts a hand on her hip when looking out over the audience in her feminine and confident face-expression that only appears when she acts like someone who believes in herself – 5 Pieces’ Hannah, the idol and artist.

The five girls stand on their positions, suddenly saluting when the next song begins. A man’s voice is speaking in English, introducing the song;

“LADIES!” Carolina screams out, the audience roaring like crazy and Hannah tries to hold her face at the sudden scream of her lady, and the man’s voice continues in the recorded song.

“LET ME HEAR YOU SCREAM~!” Carolina screams out, the last word screamed out while she holds the microphone further away from her and she is really fun. Julia is smiling at her, as the group begins to perform.

The song [WHO-I AM] has been promoted slightly for their second tour BLACK & WHITE. It is powerful, tough to dance to and the lyrics are fast, almost like rap. Emelia helped writing the lyrics. It is fun yet powerful in both lyrics and choreography, which is not new for 5 Pieces but it is tough, and 5 Pieces begins to perform with energy as if this is the first song for the evening; you can see they are sweaty though.

5 Pieces holds their hands together in the middle when Emelia says the last line, and they smile at each other. Emelia loves to say “let’s concur together”, she has said it for years at rare occasions because 5 Pieces started off as a friendly group in school, inspired with the name from the manga One Piece, and Emelia always saw 5 Pieces’ as pirates and that is what their concept kind of started off with. She is proud it has been used in a song, finally. Hannah is still not sure if her head is dizzy or about to get dizzy, but since she has pulled through all the dance songs for the evening she doesn’t care what it is anymore. She is happy, satisfied, and she thinks that her members have exactly the same thoughts when they look at each other when finishing off [WHO-I AM].

The stage goes dark, and changes the colour of the stage to black with blue soft lights as another video begins to play. 5 Pieces gets backstage, pulling on an a-line chiffon maxi skirt in black matching their peplum top, prepared for the final two ballad songs, and when the first of the two begins to play, 5 Pieces is back up on the stage ready for it.

The song that at the same time as [Original] changed 5 Pieces’ image in 2010 revealed the improvement of their vocals. The song is [Tomorrow (I’ll Be Gone)], the first ballad that showed that 5 Pieces was not a failure. The members remembers how they cried during their first years in Korea when being told they couldn’t sing, and they hated to sing ballads as they knew they didn’t have the strength to pull it through. But when this song came out, it all changed. Julia smiles at Hannah when remember it now, how they read reviews about their mini-album and cried anew hearing the compliments about this song.

Maria had said her voice was tired, but you couldn’t hear much of it. She is always so brilliant on the stage. The audience sings along, waving their hands in the air to the ballad melody. The sky has darkened at this hour, matching the mood of the ballad, and the five idols on the stage are taking it all in. Hannah found during the song that all five members seem to like the skirt added to their outfits, because just as she saw Carolina at the beginning of the song hold a part in her hand and wave it around prettily, Emelia had done about the same thing a little further away.

But when [Tomorrow (I’ll Be Gone)] comes to an end, it is only one song left to sing.

It begins right away, a song from their third album dedicated to 5 Pieces’ fans. Tonight, they sing it for all women out there. The song is called [The Rainbows Colours], and is about how the fans always are supportive and being on 5 Pieces side, being in a lot of different colours like the rainbow, filling them with an energy no one else can. There are some powerful vocals in this song, adlibs and shouts, but it is sweet too in the lyrics. Hannah loves the meaning behind the song; it is a meaningful song for both 5 Pieces and their fans Puzzle, and it is a great song to end their time on the stage for tonight.

When it begins, the audience is screaming so loudly when Maria’s light vocal starts off;

Hannah is smiling softly when standing on the stage, looking out at the audience for the last song. Some are singing along to the sweet ballad, most are waving their hands in the air and Julia is waving her hand as well.

The chorus comes to an end and Hannah gets quiet from singing with the ladies, walking to the end of the stage to look closer at the audience nearest them. She smiles and waves her hand.

Maria’s voice is always so perfect. She is holding a hand to her ear when singing her part, and then when she takes turn with Emelia fro the English parts they made the audience cheer by looking towards each other. Maria will do really well with her solo promotions, it loosens the worry Hannah’s heart hearing her friend sing and knowing she will do well because it is something natural for their leader. While Emelia and Maria had been singing, both Carolina and Hannah had walked out on the extra stage, and when the part ends it is Hannah’s turn to sing. She sits down on her heels at the edge of the extra stage, taking in deep for the first word of her part and then smiles at the fans in front of her reaching out their hands to reach her. She touches a few fingers with hers.

Hannah is mouthing Maria’s impressive adlib, smiling at the audience as she is standing on her feet now and deeply enjoying the last song, not caring much for the cameras that have been filming them this evening for the charity concert.

Standing on the main stage next to each other, ending the song with the final parts there, Carolina sings out her last line standing in the middle of the group. It looks beautiful, it sounds beautiful; 5 Pieces’ performance has come to an end. The girls take their hands, raising them together and then bend forward to bow deeply to the cheering and applauding audience.

Grateful and thankfulness. To South Korea, to their families, to each other, to music – to everything and everyone who have let them come this far. Hannah bows for that. She holds on tight to Julia’s hand when they stand up straight again, smiling because she is so exhausted in her head and body but her heart is light because of the audience.

They bow two times like that, each time staying down a little longer in the bow to let the audience now how thankful each five of them are for this. It isn’t just that they get to perform so many songs at an event; it is that they were invited by an organisation to perform because 5 Pieces is seen as something that gives strength to people. Nothing is impossible, that is what they stand for, and that is why it is such a special moment to finish eleven songs with the audience singing to each one of them, to know that the people in the audience have paid and donated to come here tonight and watch the whole concert.

Two women steps up on the stage from the right side when 5 Pieces finishes the last bow, wearing long dresses and applauding with something in their hands. The tallest woman begins to talk in the microphone when walking up to the ladies who steps a little to the side to let the two women stand in the centre with them. Julia and Carolina are still holding their hands when hearing what the woman has to say. She is talking about 5 Pieces’ performance, about this charity concert and more. Hannah listens, peeking out behind Julia to look by her members who all look the same; a little tired, out of breath more from the energy they have received from the audience tonight than being tired from performing and also smiling a bit from the love they have received, and she looks at the two women talking.

“As we all have witnessed with their performance here tonight, 5 Pieces is able to make thousand of women make their voices heard.” The audience applauses in agreement to those words and Hannah smiles widely with Julia who glances at her, both of them happy to hear such praise and to actually agree on it too because they have heard the audience for each song. “We would like to thank the members of 5 Pieces for giving strength and belief in women of all ages, in both the music you present and in your style. You are always showing your fans and listeners that nothing is impossible, and it doesn’t matter if you are a man or woman. Women all around Asia have been voting to decide which icon is making women’s voices heard, and as the winner, we would want to present 5 Pieces the Women’s Voice Award 2013, and thank you for doing what you do and wish you will continue to give strength to us women all around the world.”

Hannah is smiling widely behind the tears in her eyes when Maria accepts the award in one hand and a bouquet in the other arm from the other woman, Emelia is given a diploma from the same woman and all five ladies gets to shake hands with both of them. While Julia and Hannah shake hands with the women, Maria begins to say her thanks for the group.

“Most of all I would want to thank you for inviting us here to this charity concert to make awareness of the women’s voice, and also for this award… we are truly honoured to know that we are able to reach out to so many people with what we are doing and I know I speak for all Pieces when I say that we want to thank all women in this world who are as colourful as the rainbow.”

She is smiling widely at the cheering audience, her eyes all teary and Carolina continues to say; “It has been a great honour to perform in front of such a welcoming and loving audience. we would want to thank all the sponsors,” she says different sponsors for both 5 Pieces and the charity event, “and also to SM Entertainment for guiding us these past five years, to our managers and team for reminding us of who we are, and also to all of our fans for letting us know that we do what we love because of you all. You are what made us come this far, and we thank you all for it! Thank you so much!”

“Thank you for this award,” Maria bows again.

“And also a thank you to the members,” Julia adds with a big smile at the girls, knowing the audience screams loudly because of what she says, “for helping each other find our own voices when needed.” She looks out over the audience to add; “Than you, all women, who fight hard to let your voices get heard!”

After a long shower, Hannah takes a seat on her bed wearing a one-piece with a blanket around her and cat Ace cuddling up in her arms, stretching our his small paws in the thick fabric of the blanket. She is exhausted and tired, but on the way home she had looked online, read comments about the episode of Life of Pieces Season 4 that aired earlier this evening. It’s already on episode 7… Tonight they aired her confession about her family; her sister took drugs in the past and she isn’t sure if she is still using it and that is why she was unsure to give her any money; that her family (mostly mother) has been telling her for the past five years to drop out of 5 Pieces and go back to Sweden…

She wasn’t sure what to expect, but when reading comments on her own in the back of the cheering and tired van, she just read it through and stopped thinking about it. She was more interested in Maria trying to convince their manager to buy some food in celebration of tonight’s event. They got the Women’s Voice Award! Hannah isn’t sure she will ever believe that. It feels so unreal, that they would receive such a thing in Korea, where women all around Asia have put their votes. But it’s so amazing thinking about it that the girls couldn’t stop giggling out of nowhere on the way home afterwards.

The laptop is next to her on the bed where she is looking through more comments about the episode – or about her confession. It isn’t a lot of cursing, but it is a lot of pitying. Comments are like ‘I feel bad for Hannah. She had to choose between her family in Sweden and her best friends in Korea, and now she is hated because she made a life-changing decision? Who wouldn’t have chosen like her?? Hu?? Seriously?????’, ‘This girl has gone through a lot, she deserves praise for staying strong, not hate just because others are jealous. Get yourself together!’, ‘Her sister took drugs??? Oh my… I did not expect to hear that…’, ‘There is always more going on than we know about. it’s sad knowing she has gone against her family to reach her dream, but I am actually happy she did. I think Hannah is proud over her decision too, because she loves what she is doing and all of her fans wouldn’t want her to leave’, ‘Please don’t cry!’, ‘I love 5 Pieces friendship and this really shows why I love it, but why the did they show this? Is it some kind of proof that even private things like this have to be shown and I ing hate how her own family speaks to the media and lies and whatnot while Hannah just hides backstage and pulls it together on the stage! It is really bad!’, ‘The part of Hannah backstage shouldn’t have aired. The cute and innocent magnae of 5 Pieces, crying and looking destroyed like that after a phone call from her mother? I will never see her the same way after this…’, ‘Hannah, Puzzle loves and supports you, always <3 You can have a boyfriend if he treats you well, you can ignore your family if they treat you unfairly, you can have all the love us fans have to give because you are worth getting it. Puzzle is still here for your <3’, ‘Watch this video (link), it is touching’. Hannah stops going through the comments by that last one, just to press the link and get in on a YouTube video.

Quietly she watches how the video begins, and she smiles when seeing it is a clip of 5 Pieces from the first season of their reality show back in 2010. In the clip, the five members are loud, messing around and running away from Manager Lim out on the street, screaming they want to eat, they want this and that, too tired to practice all the time. The next clip is also from the same season of Manager Lim telling them all to finish their plates and even holding on to Carolina who wants to stand up eating, pushing her to sit down firmly. Some pictures put together is revealed, of 5 Pieces with the same manager, new and past pictures with all the members, one member or some of them.

‘Being away from home since young age, the members of 5 Pieces got their own family in Korea, to help them pull through hard times as teenagers. Their manager is called Appa/Father because he treats the ladies as his own daughters. See it for yourself’

The text disappears from the video and reveals a clip that Hannah really is familiar with. Last year Hannah got award at Melon Music Awards, a special award called Outstanding Artist for her solo song [I CRY] and all of the activities she had impressed with during the year, and it is the clip of her accepting the award. Seeing it now she looked so stunned, so puzzled, and Hannah remembers that she had no idea of what kind of award it was and she didn’t really expect to get it at all. What the video takes focus on is when she thanks some people, firstly thanking 5 Pieces and their fans Puzzle, and the third person she mentions is “I also want to thank our Manager Appa”, and the clip changes to some behind-the-scene of the award show which Hannah didn’t know existed. Manager Lim had hugged the puzzled piece. It is obvious the video is about Manager Lim, and it touches Hannah to see that their fans have taken notice of how he cares for the members.

Another clip from when 5 Pieces won on a music program with [Original] in 2010, and Life of Pieces had of course been there to air a clip of them coming backstage, crying and being all destroyed because it was their second time winning at all in Korea, and Manager Lim hugged each one of them. Another one from their concert last year (the very first for 5 Pieces), where they also came backstage crying after a three-hour long concert, and they went in a group-hug with their manager.

‘5 Pieces miss their parents and families a lot, they say it often and they also say that the managers and people in Korea have helped them pull through by becoming family members. Their manager is often seen taking care of all five members as a father, always being there backstage to hug them.

Carolina had a radio program a while back and she once said “our Manager Appa is here with me today! Without him, 5 Pieces would be very lost and we would be little kids running around wildly in the big city. Appa, it’s hard on you, isn’t it?” It shows that 5 Pieces care for their manager too. Julia and Emelia had in their reality show also prepared hot coffee for their managers when they had woken up early to work. Maria said in an interview in 2012; “Our manager’s wife packs real homemade Korean food for us, always making sure our fridge is filled with food. She is like a mother”’

Hannah looks through the whole video, smiling at it before scrolling down to see the comments. The recent comments are those who have watched tonight’s episode of the reality show, and her smile fades just a little.

‘To see him hug the members whenever they get off the stage made me cry so badly. Anyone who saw Life of Pieces tonight; he hugged Hannah after that she had talked about her family! He was there the whole time she spoke, it was so touching!’, ‘Hannah has her own family in Korea. I’m happy for that. he looks so proud over them backstage xD’, In the final clip of the video it had shown 5 Pieces performing on some stage, and backstage the staff was watching and Manager Lim had been standing with his hands together and a smile so big in his face, he really did look proud. ‘Julia grew up with just her mother, she must miss having a father =( the story of 5 Pieces is actually very sad, but they have come such a long way that anyone seeing their story must feel so proud, even if you aren’t a fan or know them, it makes you proud’, ‘I am frustrated watching this! Five years ago they were total strangers, but how come he can treat Hannah so much better than her real family? 5 Pieces’ Appa, Puzzle is forever grateful for you being there and hugging our idols when they need it! Thank you!!’, ‘5 Pieces is really hardworking and I think their manager gets to struggle with them; in their reality show you can see them fight and everything, the manager is always there. I think he if anyone really knows the hardship 5 Pieces goes through, and to see how they all rushed to him after their first concert… Really loads of love’, ‘You need to add the hug he gave Hannah in Life of Pieces, which is really touching. Everyone, keep supporting Hannah now when she need it the most! WE LOVE 5 PIECES’ HANNAH, because you can’t finish the puzzle without one piece!!!!! ;)’

With a pout she wipes the tears in her face, kissing Ace who cuddles against her , and she picks up her cell phone to send a simple text message to Manager Lim, not making a big deal out of how touched she is by what she has seen but just telling him goodnight with a heart at the end.

She releases a sigh when getting in on twitter on her laptop, reading comments from fans there saying 5 Pieces did great on tonight’s event and that they deserved the award, also telling her to boast about it for her family, some adding joking emoticons and some commenting that they read article about 5 Pieces at tonight’s event and will look forward to see it on the TV this weekend.

Hannah is smiling when carrying Ace down the stairs to the lower floor of their apartment, walking to the living-room where Emelia has just a few minutes ago lied down on her stomach in the sofa wearing the same kind of one-piece that Hannah is wearing, also she has already showered. It’s strange how these two who share one bathroom are both done while only Julia has showered among the other members; Carolina is heard in the kitchen eating and Maria is taking a bath to “ease her mind after the mind-blowing evening”. Hannah lifts Ace up on top of Emelia’s head when lying herself on top of Emelia, trying to hug her friend from behind.

“Wha- What are you doing?” Emelia stutters, first not knowing who it is and then chuckles when hearing Hannah mumbling against her back (she had been worried Carolina was trying something). Ace jumps down on the floor. “I love you too, cry-baby.”

Hannah smiles, closing her eyes and slinks down between the backrest and Emelia to not have her weighing her friend down; she tries to hug Emelia from behind once again though Emelia can only feel her press her arms together on each side of the bony friend. She knows what Hannah tries to do somehow, and she smiles too. for something so small and simple as a failure back hug, both of them know the deep meaning behind it, the same way Emelia knew what Hannah mumbled when first lying on top of her. To be able to stand on the stage together, to be able to make thousand of people sing along to all the songs you perform, to make such a crowd cheer and unite, and to share the same dream, experience it like this… There are good and bad moments, there are really hard times, but it is all worth it for Hannah. In the end, she thinks she knows she will always have the members there with her. They don’t have to talk all the time; like Emelia is a mind-reader, how they all know each other so well that words don’t always have to be spoken…

“I think I’m in a daze,” Hannah giggles and sits up. Emelia groans as Hannah accidentally puts some weight on the hand she holds on Emelia’s back when getting up, and Michin comes dashing towards them out of nowhere in hope they are fooling around, so Hannah moves to sit on the floor to play a little with him. Emelia lies still, watching them.

“We’re always in a daze after a performance, and tonight was really special,” Emelia says. “And tomorrow we’re going to Turkey.”

“Did you pack?” Hannah asks quickly before Emelia has time to say anything more.

“I packed earlier today. You?”

Hannah grimaces and shakes her head. “I’ll do it before going to bed: Which is soon.”

“I’ll help you. Come, let’s go,” Emelia gets up from the sofa.

 

The next morning, on the way to the airport, 5 Pieces are sitting with brand new Samsung cell phones. With 5 Pieces being the new “models” for the cell phone brand they were given the new phone to daily be seen using the same brand and phone they have done commercial for. The very first thing Hannah does with her new phone is to get an Instagram-account. Why? Firstly because Maria have told her to get it, secondly because fans are asking on twitter why she doesn’t get it and begging her to fix that tiny issue, and thirdly because she really wants to get it.

‘bunny92hannah’ is the name she uses, and the moment she has fixed that she asks Julia next to her how to use it.

Outside it’s raining, so Hannah focuses a lot on what first picture she will upload. First she wants to take a picture of the road, but the ladies think that’s not fun, and she tries to take a decent picture of herself because that is what she is told to do. Hannah is wearing a black/white dolman-sleeve colour-block sweater that she borrowed from Emelia (it is a little big for Emelia but fits perfectly for Hannah), a pair of black skinny jeans and on her feet she wears the lace-up platform ankle boots that a Chinese fan had given her. On her left wrist she is wearing a lot of bracelets, as well as her usual rings there one representing 5 Pieces that all five ladies wear and one representing her boyfriend; the right wrist has a simple bracelet. It is the left hand she holds up to show the infamous v-sign (peace-sign) when taking a picture of herself from chest and up, and when she has taken it she shows it first to Julia and then Maria to let them decide if she can upload it or not. Like always they says she should upload it, saying she is cute though she is just smiling sweetly with her head lightly tilted; a trademark for her as it gets decent in every picture if she does that.

Julia guides her through each step to upload the picture on Instagram, even to have the picture uploaded on twitter too (which Hannah finds fascinating as she didn’t know you could do that) and eventually, Hannah has uploaded the first picture.

It’s not that she couldn’t get Instagram on her old cell phone; she just found it unnecessary first because she was using twitter and then unnecessary to fix it on the old one if she was going to get a new one anyway.

“I bet Hannah will walk around taking pictures with everyone in Istanbul,” Emelia chuckles from the passenger seat at the front. She has heard Hannah talking and needing help and being curious over every single thing about Instagram like an old lady who doesn’t know hot technology works during the ride, and after 12 years of friendship she can guess her way to Hannah’s behaviour.

“Not with everyone,” Hannah mutters and looks at her phone, but she has already told FT Island’s Minhwan that she will want a picture with him. With a giggle she shows her phone to Julia. “Look how many people!”

Since it was uploaded on twitter as well, her followers there take notice of one thing; ‘you got Instagram?! Finally! Congrats!!’ and Hannah realises that all of the people that comments, likes and follows her on Instagram seem to think it is about time she is getting it. Once when she had uploaded a picture on twitter there were some comments telling her to get Instagram instead. Though it is such a small thing she feels proud for getting an account, for downloading the app at all, and especially for seeing so many people liking it so fast.

Hannah is happy for the new cell phone, and that she will go to Turkey with her members because she really need to occupy her mind to not think of Life of Pieces that showed her breaking down backstage after a horrible phone call from her mother back in July. Nothing gets her mind off that better than her members and their performance.

The ladies still seem busy with their new cell phones when arriving at the airport. Hannah giggles when hearing their manager repeatedly ask them to take out their passports and in the end he even has to look through Carolina’s bag because she just clueless looks at him as if she doesn’t understand what he is saying. She is more clueless about how the new cell phone works than Hannah.

On the plane, Hannah and Carolina are sitting next to each other and that is where Hannah’s second picture is taken. She holds out the cell phone towards the left so Carolina can get seen in the seat on Hannah’s right, and they both make this silent excitement expression of shouting with arms stretched out and mouths open; Carolina looks like she is excited over their new cell phones by reaching her hand out over Hannah to the cell phone taking the picture, looking like she wants to eat it up or something and they both laughs when they look at the three pictures they have taken. Only one is chosen though.

The press-conference for the drama Mr and Miss has ended and the cast have gone out to eat together. Hannah is having a lot of fun with the cast and staff, taking pictures and laughing with them though she keeps running back and forth to fill up their glasses. It started off as a joke when actor Lee Joon Hyuk asked her to do it because she is both the rookie and the youngest (for some reason, she is always that on the set for each drama she does), and then the others jokingly did it too but then she just kept filling it up… Hannah isn’t even sure why she does it; she just wants to please them all.

During today’s press-conference (the drama countdown: two weeks away for the first airing!) she had been deadly nervous. She couldn’t sleep, she was so nervous for what to say and what others would say. She was even nervous to blink. But in the end it all went well and it was very relaxed and laid back, just as it has been on the set because everyone is just so friendly and loves to joke around. Though Hannah was so nervous that she can’t remember what she had said, she sneaks a peek at the articles written afterwards and nods as the response is good; which means she must’ve done something right. She had been blushing during the press-conference because they kept praising her, and she had shared her first impression of Lee Joon Hyuk from filming together where he was dancing and singing to 5 Pieces’ [Daze] to her. “I am a huge fan of 5 Pieces, I found it the best way to welcome her,” Lee Joon Hyuk had explained to the media. Hannah is actually satisfied with the day. She is part of a wonderful crew that keeps joking around, she feels like she is one of them though she absolutely isn’t on their level in any kind of way, but they still make her feel as she is one of them and she is grateful for that.

“Hannah!” Kim Jaejoong calls out from across the restaurant’s private hall where they are eating at, and when she looks up he is waving her cell phone in the air. Hannah hurries to fill up the glass to a female staff (everyone is surprised by how willingly she fills up their glasses) and then walks over to her seat next to Jaejoong. “Your phone keeps buzzing – I wasn’t sure what to do about it.”

It’s Jonghyun.

Hannah looks through the text messages after seeing the missed phone calls; there is also a text message from Emelia. Julia’s mother is in Korea, she came earlier today, and while Hannah has been busy with the press-conference, doing interviews to promote the drama with the cast and going out on dinner, Julia has given her mother a round-tour at their apartment and kept it simple on the arriving day as her mother has been on a very long flight. Hannah looks forward to meet her again, either later tonight or tomorrow morning.

She looks up when seeing Jaejoong trying to sneak a peak at her cell phone, and he smiles when being caught, holding the glass of alcohol close to his lips to take a sip. He looks like an anime character, too perfect even by just taking a sip of his drink.

“Worried boyfriend?” he teases, keeping the glass close to his lips.

“Busy boyfriend,” she corrects him, takes a glance around the table to see that everyone is busy with their own conversations before she turns back to Jaejoong who keeps looking at her with the strange face-expression of perfection. “It was our anniversary last week.”

“Oooooooooooooh,” Jaejoong pulls out on it, impressed. “Three years is it now? Impressive…”

He surely has a great memory, Hannah thinks.

“Are you preparing anything?” Jaejoong leans in closer, very interested in details and Hannah is feeling all giggly. She has been planning and talking with her members and stylists about this, but not to anyone else. Not even her manager knows anything. She can’t stop smiling at the thought of what she has been planning. She can’t go in on details with Jaejoong, too shy about it, but Jaejoong knows what she means and teases her, but he promises to keep it a secret if he can get the details tomorrow at the drama filming. They make a pinkie-swear on it.

All of a sudden Hannah can’t wait to get home and prepare. She keeps checking her cell phone, looking at the time and to see if she gets any more text messages. Jonghyun is working and he has texted her to say he might be an hour late. But an hour isn’t much, Hannah agrees, as that will just let her get more time to prepare. For her three years in a relationship, Hannah has probably never really done any kind of “event” that seem to be the main point with relationships in Korea, and because of that she has planned to do it tonight.

And she has more time to spend with the cast before she has to leave, bowing her way out. She wasn’t the first one to leave, which is easier for her mind as she has before had to turn down the offer to even go out on dinner with them at all because of her schedules, and this time she showed herself to let them know she is there and she is willing to do her best to make them like her – they say they like her already. In the van on the way home, Hannah is eager to prepare. She is nervous too, because it is their third year as a couple and she isn’t good at all to prepare surprises or events or anything at all: Which is why she has asked her members for a lot of help.

Manager Lee drops her off outside the apartment and makes sure she gets inside before he leaves, and Hannah is hurrying inside the apartment, in a not too loud voice calling that she is home. She doesn’t know if Julia’s mother has gone to bed because she might be tired from the long flight, but with the two puppies coming rushing to her, she can hear Julia call back that they are in the living-room. By the sound of her voice, her mother must be awake. Hannah drops her things, picks up Michin in her arms and gets inside the living-room to smile widely at the older version of Julia sitting in the sofa smiling back at her.

Julia looks so much like her mother. Even their body is built the same way; they have the same cheekbones, their noses are identical, their mouth and eyes look the same too and just glancing at them it is obvious they are related. Her mother has short dark hair just like Julia, and last time Hannah saw these two together, Julia had longer hair so now it is almost like seeing twins sitting in the living-room beside from the age differences.

“Hi!” Hannah brightly greets, walking up to Julia’s mother who stands up to give her a hug.

“If I saw you on the street dressed like that, I wouldn’t recognize you,” her mother laughs and after the hug she takes a look up and down at Hannah. “We saw pictures of the thing you were on; you look really beautiful!”

The Swedish language is always welcomed around their parents, and Hannah can’t stop smiling at her. Julia begins talking about what they have been doing, sounding excited and Hannah knows what for. She has been talking nonstop for over a week that her mother is coming, staying for two weeks. Julia is talking so much that her mother can’t get a word out, and though Hannah is super excited too for her staying, she really wants to get going with the preparations.

Soon enough she manages to slink away, heading upstairs to first off clean up in her bedroom. She takes out a box of candles, putting it on the bed, gets her sponsored clothes off that she hangs up behind the door, and she puts things away, doing this and that, changes underwear, puts on a big t-shirt and grabs her notebook before she heads downstairs to go to the kitchen where she right away starts taking out ingredients. Hannah has thought big time about this; she even has a plan in which order to do all the things in preparations. Her first challenge is the cupcakes; the reason she will make cupcakes is because she made it on Jonghyun’s birthday last year and he seemed to really have liked them because he keeps asking when she will make it next time. With her members saying Hannah is a professional at making cupcakes (saying she can’t make anything else…), they also suggested her to make some more now when Julia’s mother is there. So Hannah is baking cupcakes with two different frostings, and though she has a busy schedule, she seems to have enough time to make this. Buying ingredients was something the housemaid got to do; Hannah wrote a detailed shop list for the baking, adding that the ingredients can not be mixed with the other groceries or put away so Hannah won’t find them, and she finished the note thanking the lady for all the hard work. Hannah will make sure she will get some cupcakes too.

Julia comes inside after a while, checking how it’s going. “Mom wants to know if you need any help,” Julia mentions.

“No need. I can do this,” Hannah mumbles, focused on the baking.

“Okay…” Julia says with a nod, she lingers a bit and is just about to leave when Emelia comes inside the kitchen, heading straight to the freezer to get out some ice-cream. “Mom! Do you want some ice-cream?”

“Does Jonghyun even know what you’re preparing?” Emelia asks Hannah the same time Julia’s mother answers.

“He knows he is coming here… I’m not sure what he will expect,” Hannah answers, still focused on the backing so her voice sounds very bored. She doesn’t want to seem all too excited in the clouds about this surprise. “I haven’t told him anything of what I’m doing.”

“Maria has a dress for you to wear; she is heading home from practice now,” Emelia tells her, taking out a spoon. “She wants you to look y on the third year anniversary.”

“Has it really been that long?” Julia grimaces, taking out three bowls for them. “Hannah, you don’t want ice-cream right? -But haven’t you broken up in the middle of this mess? Just last year you were heartbroken because you broke up…”

“And how many hours was that exactly?” Emelia chuckles, “That can’t be considered a break-up.”

“Are you two going to make fun of me the whole night?” Hannah mutters without lifting up her head from what she is doing. She has made cupcakes a few times before; last time was a year ago sometime, so she can’t really remember much; therefore the notes with each step written down.

“I’m taking ice-cream,” Emelia answers.

“I’m waiting to take ice-cream,” Julia adds. “Will you introduce my mom to him…?”

This is the one and only time Hannah looks up at her, puzzled by the question. “Haven’t they met already…?” she wonders, but Julia frowns, not knowing that she’s talking about.

“Last year when we had our concert in Sweden, SHINee was there, all of our families were there – they have been introduced,” Emelia simply explains while taking the ice-cream in her bowl, putting ice-cream in the three bowls.

“Oh…” Julia remembers it. “Right. Mom said she thought he was going to be shorter from how I had described him.”

Hannah pouts at the comment. She know her members like to tell their parents a lot of things; and with Julia only having her mother, she tells her everything. When they have taken their ice-cream they leave Hannah alone.

She finishes the cupcakes with frosting on top, and she also makes a simple shrimp dish that Julia had helped her to find a receipt on online. During the time she is cooking the shrimp dish, Maria comes home, loudly talking and walking back and forth before she comes inside the kitchen wearing a pair of pyjama pants and a t-shirt, sitting down around the kitchen table to wait for Hannah to be done.

“So I am like the perfect planner. Everyone has agreed to use the bathroom before Jonghyun comes so we can fix it for your romantic time. No one will be in the kitchen when you are here either, and I am going to make you look beautiful,” Maria is talking on. “And for safety, I will lighten the candles while you are sitting here eating, so there won’t be a fire in the bathroom. Do you want me to set the table or something? What will you need? Oh, will you have that make-up? It looks really pretty…”

Listening to Maria nervously talking on and on about this, Hannah is getting super nervous too. She doesn’t answer on any question because Maria seem to answer them herself when getting up to see over Hannah’s shoulder, noticing how Hannah has prepared everything on the kitchen worktop. Maria helps Hannah to clean up in the kitchen so it looks ready before leading the youngest upstairs to change clothes.

“I am NOT wearing that!” Hannah bursts out laughing when entering Maria’s bedroom to see a white cutout-shoulder minidress lying on the bed.

“WHY NOT?! It’s perfect! If you had decided to go out on a date wearing this, I have the perfect heels for it – but now you are being romantic at home.”

Hannah grimaces at her friend, but Maria holds the dress towards her and shoves her out the room with it.

“Go change,” she orders and waves her hand for Hannah to go to her own room and change.

A few minutes later, Hannah is standing in the living-room with a hand annoyingly put on her hip, seeing the overdoing face-expression of her members and Julia’s mother.

“It’s looks great!”

“I told you so.”

“You really think I should wear this? Isn’t it too much?” Hannah grimaces, but they all tell her to wear it and Maria threatens her to not take it off.

“Anniversaries surely are different in Korea,” Julia’s mother mentions and Hannah do smile at it when the others laugh.

“I’ll look like this then,” Hannah mumbles and head back upstairs with Maria to fix the bathroom with candles. Emelia comes to help them with the bubble bath too – just for Hannah to know what to do later. And then, all left is to wait for Jonghyun to come. Hannah smiles at them. She is nervous!
