Purple Record [EXO-Baekhyun's Short Story]
Purple Record written by : Kiyomichan | wattpad January 29, 2013 All Rights Reserved ® ***********---*********--------*****-----********************* Purple Record [Setting: Purple Record, Hongdae, Seoul, South Korea] It's been a couple of months since I started living alone here in this foreign, KimChi-ful, cold country. Yes, I'm here, Seoul, South Korea. And the foreign thing? Of course I ain't Korean, nor had Korean blood. I'm a proud Filipina. The reason why I'm here? Probably because of Kimchi? But, seriously, set aside my heart for Korean foods, I'm here to study and to work. I live alone here. I'm in the legal age to be independent so yeah, I chose to stay here to experience the joy of playing the snow when winter. My family back in the Philippines were fine. They often send me money for my school fees though I just kept it, for emergency purposes. I have my circle of friends here, Koreans and some were like me, ain't a Filipino but atleast we're both not in their mother country. I work at Coffee Lab near my school, Hongik University. Reason why I chose to work at the cafe is that.. uhh.. Sorry, I can't think of any more reasons besides my eternal love for coffee. By the way it's February! It's love month right? I'm Loveless. Too bad I'm so busy that I couldn't think of any rather than School and coffee --and Kimchi of course (I have lots of stock in my fridge!) My cousin sent me an email last night. She's asking for me to buy her CD, AGAIN. FYI, she's a die-hard-KPOP fan. Well, I'm not. Like, Hello? Am I here for vacation? Duuh? I'm a working-student dude! But as much as I complain, I got nothing to do. I love her, I can't resist her. After my classes, I directly went to the cafe I'm working for. Good thing, there weren't so many customers. 10PM. My shift ended. It's late yet I'm still energetic. Maybe because of the espresso earlier. I decided to walk to Purple Record. It's the nearest CD store in town so yeah. It's still open so I enter. There's music playing but I'm not interested. I'm not a fan of KPOP. I'm a huge fan of Paramore. So yeah, who cares about me? I tried to recall what my cousin said in her email.. "Dem! Released na yung album ng EXO!!! Bilan mo ko!! Pleaseee!!" (Translation: Dem!! EXO's album's already out! Buy me!! Pleaseeee!!) Oh. I forgot to mention my name? Sorry about that. I'm Demise. period. No need for a surname, we're not close. Kidding~ So.. EXO isn't it? I started listening to Paramore's album, in that section where you can literally play the cd, what do you call that? Ahh. Nevermind. I'm enjoying Hailey's voice when an ahjumma tap my shoulder. LIKE WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH YOU AHJUMMA! I'm enjoying myself here listening to my alltime-favorite-band and there you are, tapping me, grabbing me back into my senses. If my parents wasn't taught me to respect the elders, I probably be shouting now to this ahjumma in front of me, but I'd still NOT DO THAT because it's not the best thing to do now. So what the best thing to do anyway? First is to be Calm and be composed. Remember that I'm in the public place. If I do something now, my face would probably be in TV tomorrow. Sorry guys, I just love Paramore. So when I'm getting really pissed off when someone interrupts me with my band session with them. After so many years, but I mean is 10 seconds, I asked the ahjumma. "Is there any problem?" She answered quickly.. "Ohh. Sorry to interrupt you kid, but can I please use it? I'm just going to hear the songs in this album" Yeah I know. What should people do in this thing anyway? Eat? :P "Okay. Sorry for keeping you waiting." I put the headset back on its place and left. But I heard her say.. "My daughter asked me to buy this album. I'm just so curious about the songs so I'll hear it first then when the songs were okay, I'll buy her tomorrow. I think it's a new band, they were called EXO.. that made me more curious." I don't know why I'm listening to what she's saying but I thought leaving her there without any notice is not-very-good-thing. So I just waited while she delivered her speech. Then I heard her say. " I think it's a new band, they were called EXO.. " I think I heard that before.. Where? When? Ahh. I know. 'X.O' You mean the candy right? In my country it was a coffee candy. Who could have thought that coffee candy there is a 'New Band' here in Korea? Are they coffee addicts too? ----- To tell you the truth, I always have X.O candy on my pocket. Maybe because of my addiction to coffee? If I run out of supply, I'll just email my cousin and she'll send me a BOX full of it. So yeah. That's why I love her. We couldn't just resist each other. She buys me X.O, I buy her albums. What a great deal for an addict. Wait. Speaking of my cousin, I need to buy her an album. From what band again? Think Dem Think! LOADING . . . . . . . EXO?! So what is she trying to ask me is that I'll buy her the album that the ahjumma holds right now? Okay. Fine. Whatever. I'm a loser. "Sorry I'm spacing out. Go ahead ahjumma, you can use it all you want. I got to go. Take care. Goodbye." and then the end. I came back to my dorm. After I finished all my school works, I rushed to my bed and dig myself on it. The next day, I was about to go school when I noticed that my wallet is missing. Where the hell did I put it?! I tried to remember what I did last night, Came to school then had my shift at the cafe then to Purple Record. I probably left my wallet when I'm listening. How careless. Leaving your wallet behind. Wow. Great. It's 7:20 and I got 10 minutes left then I'm late. I have to find my wallet now. I run out of my dorm building and headed to the Purple Record. For me it's a matter of Life-and-Death. I have my most-important-thing in my life there. Coupons for free Espresso. I got 10 freaking coupons so hell no I'm not gonna find that. How lucky am I today? Good news Dem! You've lost your wallet. You're 30 minutes in class. You forgot that Purple Record's opens at 9AM. and still you're depressed about the coupons. What should I do? If I attend my class probably I'll spaced out thinking about my wallet --coupons, I must say. So I decided to go to work. I'll just tell my boss what happened so he'll let me. When I'm serving, I was shocked when a drum started to roll as music plays in the whole cafe. I bet it's new. It's the first time I heard that song. "Machi amugeotdo moreuneun airo geureoke Dashi taeeonan sungan gachi" It sounds familiar.. Where did I heard it anyway? Memory loss. Whatever. I'll remember it later anyway. I served and served and served until I paused hearing the song say "I'm eternally love" (I'm eternally inlove) Wow. He was blessed with such goosebumps-giving voice. Then finally I realized where I heard it. Purple Record.<3 It was the music playing the moment I enter last night. I requested to my boss if that song can be played again, for it was amazing. The voice is just awesome. For my whole shift, I'm singing that song in my head. You know what the folks saying? LastSongSyndrome? Well, I have that now! I bid goodbyes to my boss and mates and headed to the Purple Record. Another failure of mine. I forgot to ask the title! But it's okay. I memorized it already and I'm heading to Purple Record now, there's no way I'll go home without knowing. The moment I entered the shop, I immediately asked the ahjusshi-owner if they've seen my purple wallet. "Good afternoon ahjusshi, by chance, did you guys happen to see purple wallet here?" In my mind, I was praying that the ahjumma last night saw it. "Purple wallet? You mean this?" He grab the wallet from his table. "Yes yes! That's the one ahjusshi!" "How can I be sure that you're the owner?" "Hmm.. First, was there any other looking for it here? Second I have 100 won there with my School I.D and 10 coupons for my Espresso. You can check it out for yourself." "Haha. Here you go. Be careful next time" "Thank you ahjusshi!" *90 degree bow 'Oh God, I'm glad you're safe my precious coupons' "Ahh. By the way ahjusshi. What is the title of the song you played here last night around 10?" "Hmmm.. Let me think. We always play music here so it was a bit difficult to remember. Do you remember the lyrics?" "Ahmm. Yeah. I was able to memorized it earlier." "Wow." "Haha. Because it kept on playing at the shop I worked for, that's why." "Can you sing it?" "Sure but I'm not good at singing and I may be not reach the high notes." I started to sing.. "Machi amugeotdo moreuneun airo geureoke Dashi taeeonan sungan gachi Jamshi kkumilkkabwa han beon deo nun gamatda tteo boni Yeokshi neomu ganjeolhaetdeon ne ape gidohadeut seo isseo yeah, dan han beonman ne yeopeseo Bareul matchwo georeo bogopa han beon, Ttak han beon manyo Neoui sesangeuro yeah, yeorin barameul tago, yeah Ne gyeoteuro eodieseo wannyago Haemarkge mutneun nege bimirira malhaesseo Manyang idaero hamkke georeumyeon Eodideun cheongugilteni Mikael boda neon naege nunbusin jonjae Gamhi nuga neoreul geoyeokhae naega yongseoreul an hae Eden geu gose bareul deurin taechoui geu cheoreom maeil Neo hanaman hyanghamyeo maeumeuro mideumyeo Aju jageun geoshirado neol himdeulge haji motage Hangsang jikigo shipeo I'm eternally love Neoui suhojaro jeo geosen barameul makgo Ne pyeoneuro modu da deungeul dollyeodo Hime gyeoun eoneu nal ne nunmureul dakka jul Geureon han saram doel su itdamyeon Eodideun cheongugilteni Neol saranghage dwaebeorin nan ije deo isang Doragal goshi eobseoyo nalgaereul geodwogasyeotjyo Yeongwonhan sarmeul irheotdaedo haengbokhan iyu Naui yeongwon ijen geudaeinikka eternally love Neoui sesangeuro yeorin barameul tago, yeah Ne gyeoteuro eodieseo wannyago, from you Haemarkge mutneun oh nege bimirira malhaesseo, oh Manyang idaero hamkke georeumyeon Eodideun cheongugilteni" When I finished my mini-concert here someone beside ahjusshi clapped. "That was better than the original." The strange guy wears all black. Is he a robber or something? He wears Black tshirt with 'We are One' white print on the side and had his backpack. Black skinny, black chucks, and a purple beanie and a nerdy glasses. So yeah, he's not all-black at all. "Better than the original? Do you know what song is it?" Yeah. I'm talking to a total stranger. Don't be shocked if later I'll be missing. By the way, ahjusshi left after hearing my voice. Is my voice that bad? Manners dude! "Yeah. I know. It's Angel." "Ohh. So it's called Angel. I like it." I dunno why I smiled - at him. Maybe because he answered? LOL. "You like it?" "Yeah. Its playing on my mind right now. I really like the part where he reach the high notes. Well, I can't do that. *laughs" "But I heard you, your voice is awesome too!" "Naaah. Don't make me laugh. Anyway, Thanks whoever you are. I gotta go." I came to ahjusshi to thank him and bid goodbye. And from that I left the Purple Record. I heard him shout "Hey!" "Wait!" but I let it be. I need an Espresso right now. -------- Weeks later, I already have the money to buy the 'EXO' album for my cousin. She's already nagging me about it. Tsk. And if you asked me about the song, Angel, I recorded it to my cellphone. I did sing, and play the piano. Am I a rich kid to have a piano? Hell no. There's a Shop near by where you can buy musical instruments. The owner and I were kind of chingu so I asked him and he let me to use the grand piano for my recording session. I just love this song. And the piano, how I learnt it? I just did. I love music. coffee. and everything that is Purple. No wonder why I'm always at the Purple Record.
