Prologue
Blood Type I3
The soft sound of the rain always has seemed promising. Today seems to be a perfect fall day, with fog, rain and wind twisting around the colourful leaves. The early morning is a bit chilly so he enjoyed the hot cup that warms his hands. He sips on his usual breakfast of green tea, whilst peering out of the windows searching for something to observe. Soon, he spots a twinkle and his lips curve up into a happy smile.
How mesmerizing those colourful straying lights of the ignis fatuis are. Seoul seems to be magical and full of mysteries.
He comes from a place where fireflies are the only light at night, he is not used to the fast moving lights of the city traffic yet.
By the time he has to get up he is full of hope and anticipation. Instinctively, he tilts his head into the air, holding up his nose to sniff the mossy scent in it. The soft breeze brushes through his hair, letting him feel alive. He is ready and prepared to hunt his destiny.
His heartbeat speeds and he is so excited that he almost forgets to take the garlic with him. Always take garlic with you if you plan to leave the house, he tells himself! It might be helpful because who knows what kind of creatures are lurking in the dusk.
His new school journey is surprisingly satisfying. Already, he loves the dark side streets which promise to become great for hide and seek once he has explored them.
It was a good idea to wear the red rubber boots.
Waterproof shoes are perfect to enjoy this kind of weather. Especially in case he can’t restrain himself from playing. Either in the mud, with puddles or ….
Also a good choice since they will also look dazzling with his new blue school uniform.
Suddenly his cheek feels wet, a lonely raindrop has found its way down, moisturising his silk like skin. The strangely familiar feeling makes him hungry and a deep growl escapes his stomach. Quickening up his steps to hurry to school, if he hurries now he may make it in time to look for dinner.
He is a new student, and like all new students he gets spotted right away. They're staring at him, observing him and talking about him. He remains calm on the surface but inside he is nervous, insecure but also eager. So many new people to meet, so much bloody meat to eat!
In the lower floors are the younger kids, which probably just graduated from primary school to middle school. They are still stuck in the awkward stage between childhood and puberty.
Running, steps, heartbeats, screaming, laughter, heartbeats, chatting, greetings, heartbeats.
His mouth is watering and his ears are twitching as he inspects each of his possible preys, but to his dissapointment it isn't among those.
Before he knows it, he is standing infront of his classroom door tensing his sweaty fists. The next few minutes will dictate his entire life.
The principal who has walked with him knocks on the door of a silent classroom.Great, of course the class he enters either has to be the most mature one or the one with the strictest teachers. He would curse if he could, instead he finds himself being shoved inside and suddenly he faces twenty-one new faces, most of which glare at him.
But there is something else that catches his attention, the right heartbeat to the right aura. If this isn’t a mean joke his body is playing with him, he just found what he was looking for.
He bowed deeply, collecting all his courage before he came up again introducing himself, finally allowing himself to become more than just a 'he'.
“Good morning, my name is Jang Wooyoung. Please take good care of me.”
It was indeed good advice, since he might just eat them alive if they get on his nerves.
