One Ok Rock
Dreamer sat on the floor in front of me wagging his tail across the rug. His tongue was sticking out as he stared at me with those big brown eyes.
“Just for two hours, right?” I asked Taka as he walked up to me.
“Yeah. It might not be that long, but you know how Tomoya and Ryota get at the candy store.” Taka replied as he let out a soft chuckle.
I just smiled a bit and patted Dreamer on his head. He started to paw at my hand.
“I just hate to leave Dreamer here by himself. I’ve only had him for three weeks, but I just can’t seem to leave him here alone. I’ll try to be as quick as possible. You two play nice,” Taka said as he gave Dreamer a quick .
I watched Taka walk out the door and leave me with his overly hyper puppy. I stared down at Dreamer and let out a long sigh. This was about to be a long two hours.
I switched the tv on and plopped down on the couch. Cooking shows were on most of the channels. I glanced down at Dreamer and found him beside my feet aggressively playing with a chew toy.
Dreamer waddled over to me and placed a slobbered tennis ball in my lap. He nudged at the ball and let out a soft whimper. I sighed and rolled my eyes. I rolled the slobbered ball around in my hand before I tossed it gently across the room.
Dreamer ran full speed after the ball and skidded across the floor. He strutted towards me and placed the ball into my lap once more. This time, I tossed the fall further than before. He found the ball but this time he didn’t drop it into my lap. I grabbed the ball and tried to pull it out of his mouth but he kept a tight grip on it.
Growls began to escape Dreamer’s mouth as I fought with him to release the ball.
“Just give me the ball, Dreamer.” I said in an aggravated tone.
Dreamer didn’t let go of the ball. Maybe if I ignored him then he would drop the ball. I pretended to watch the cooking show on tv. I could feel Dreamer’s eyes on me, and eventually he let out a huff of defeat. He dropped the ball into my lap and walked off. Ha! I yelled after the puppy.
The puppy took his place on his dog bed in the corner and went back to chewing on his toy. I grabbed the ball and quietly placed it on the floor. Dreamer looked up at me but he didn’t move.
About ten minutes later I looked over to check on Dreamer, and found him asleep in his bed. I smiled. He is a cute dog. I sank down into the couch and curled up on it.
~~~
I awoke to the sound of a dog barking, and a door closing. I slowly rose up from the couch and found Taka walking in with at least ten bags that were all different sizes. Dreamer ran around his legs and barked happily.
“Oi! Sorry, leader! I didn’t mean to wake you.” Taka said as he placed the bags on the kitchen counter.
“It’s fine. I needed to get up anyways. I’m just gonna go to the bathroom then take off,” I said as I yawned and stood up.
The bathroom was dark, and smelled horrible. Did Taka not know how to clean up a bathroom properly? I took one step into the bathroom, and felt something warm squish between my toes. Weird. Did he get a new rug? Ughh. This smell is horrible. I flipped on the light switch and looked down at the ground.
There it was. A rather large, now squished, brown surprise lay on the floor and between my toes.
“I’M GOING TO KILL THAT DOG!” I yelled out in anger.
I watched as Taka walked to the bathroom and stood in the door-way. He took one look at my infected foot, and started laughing until tears came out of his eyes. I just gave him the death glare but he still continued to laugh. Dreamer came over to investigate and he started to sniff my poo covered foot.
“Get that dog out of my sight! NOW!” I yelled as I pointed at the puppy.
“Did you even take him outside to use the bathroom while I was gone?” Taka asked as he scooped the puppy up into his arms.
I grumbled and let out a very long sigh. My cheeks turned a light shade of pink.
“Well no I-“ I said as I stumbled for words.
“See. You have to take him out at least four times a day.” Taka said, shaking his curly head.
“How was I supposed to know that? You didn’t tell me that.” I stated.
“It’s common sense. I thought everyone knew that. Haven’t you ever had a pet before?” Taka asked as he shrugged his shoulders.
“No, I haven’t.” I said, scratching my head.
“I see. Well Dreamer can be good practice for when you do get one.” Taka said.
Taka flashed me his signature smile and took Dreamer into the other room, closing the bathroom door behind him.
I grabbed some toilet paper under the sink and wiped off the poop from my foot. The smell was so horrible that it made me gag a few times. I the water, to the bathtub, and let my foot soak in the water. I grabbed some body wash and poured it all over my foot. Stupid dog. I mumbled under my breath.
I walked back into the living room and saw Dreamer laying in his bed sleeping again. Taka was in the kitchen looking through his bags. He looked up and smiled at me.
“So, when Dreamer wakes up we’ll take him for a walk. Okay?” Taka said as he nodded towards the pet bed.
I just grunted at him. This was about to be another long hour or two.
