Another set of Wings

“He’s beautiful.”

Kyungsoo stared wide-eyed as his friend walked down the aisle clad in a white tuxedo, a sweet smile on his gentle face showing his adorable dimple.

“Yixing had always been beautiful.” Luhan agreed by his side, a bottle in hand feeding his 4 month old baby boy.

“Yeah, Kris hyung is one lucky guy.” He says dreamily as Yixing finally held hands with his groom, walking with laced fingers towards the altar.

The ceremony had just began when Kyungsoo heard a soft cry, he turns to coo at the baby whose eyes are just of Luhan’s and nose are those of Sehun’s, a perfect mix of the perfect couple. He poked the baby’s right cheek gently, smiling fondly as the baby’s eyes flutter, looking straightly at him.

“Awww, aren’t you an adorable one.” He coos.

“Of course, he’s my son.” Sehun interjects proudly, occupying the seat beside his husband.

“Sehan’s one healthy baby, he’s getting heavier and heavier each passing day!” Luhan exclaimed with a smile on his face. Sehun then leans to plant a kiss on his son’s cheek, the baby smiling right after and played with his dad’s big hands with his little ones.

“That’s good. I hope he continues to be healthy.” Kyungsoo smiles, leaning back to his seat just as Jongin took the seat beside him.

His husband immediately took his hand and gave it a squeeze, they smiled sweetly at each other; the sweetness still growing and overflowing even with the course of years.

“Hey, mind holding him for a minute? I need to go to the rest room. Sehun’s not really good at handling the baby.” Luhan says smugly, loud enough to send his husband pouting.

“Sure enough.”

Luhan hands Sehan to Kyungsoo slowly, the younger male opening his arms with love, care and caution evident with the way he’s holding the fragile baby in his arms. He sways his arms slowly, cooing at how cute Sehan is. His smile was as bright as the sun above in the sky, the lines of his lips tugged almost reaching his ears. Kyungsoo had always been fond of babies.

Fond of dreaming of having his own family.

“Isn’t he precious Jongin?” he asks his husband.

“Yeah,” he pokes the baby’s cheek and giggles when the baby moves to somehow swat his finger away, “And a brat at that.”

“No he’s not.” Kyungsoo rocks the baby to calm him down, somehow it felt agitated after Jongin touched him. “Maybe he just doesn’t like you. Don’t you Sehan?”

The baby somehow responded with a soft cry, making Jongin humph on his seat.

Kyungsoo only laughed and continued playing with the baby until Luhan came back and took him. The baby was cheery again, laughing and giggling while playing with his doll-faced father.

Kyungsoo couldn’t help but stare dreamily.

“Congratulations on your wedding!”

The guests cheered at the newlywed couple, there were the clinking of the ice in glasses as wines were poured, wishes of a happy married life and all the best thrown at Kris and Yixing.

The couple gratefully thanked their guests, roaming tables by tables to thank everyone personally.

“Yixing hyung! You look perfect today!” Kyungsoo couldn’t help but rise from his seat to give his friend a hug. “You look like a princess, of course, Kris hyung here is your prince.”

“Thanks Kyung,” Yixing responds with a kind of smile capable of melting you down to a puddle of goo. No wonder even the once cold hearted Wu Yi Fan fell for him. “Of course I had to look perfect, it’s my special day after all.” He leans to his husband as Kris’s arm snakes around his waist.

“Thank you guys for coming! I know you’ve been really busy with your own lives and we really appreciate your presence here.” Kris stated sincerely, making all of the 10 boys in the table smile to him in response.

The group didn’t held the couple for long for there were really a lot of guest to be thanked, so after a few minutes of catching up, the newlyweds moved on to the next table.

“He’s really pretty. Oh my God I can’t stop staring at him. He’s just so beautiful today!” Kyungsoo repeats over and over again, cupping his flushing face with his own hands.

“Okay Kyungsoo hyung, Yixing ge is beyond pretty for his wedding. We all get it, no need to repeat it over and over again.” Tao says, rolling his eyes.

Still, Kyungsoo couldn’t help but giggle and throw glances at Yixing’s direction but then his husband takes hold of his hand, successfully acquiring his attention. Jongin gave him a small smile before leaning in and planting a sweet kiss on his lips.

Kyungsoo’s eyes widen as soon as the realization struck him that his husband had kissed him in front of their friends. And much more in public.

Heat accumulated in his face, cheeks tainted even rosy than it already was.

There were snorts and snickers around the table as Kyungsoo’s mouth gape with his husband’s action.

“Yeah we get it baby, Yixing hyung’s a beauty.” The tanned male in jestingly said.

He then leans and stops hair width before his husband’s ear to whisper, “But not as beautiful as you.”

--

The next morning, Kyungsoo wakes up to a warm chest pressed against his back with the comfort of their blankets and pillows. The rays of the sun were peeking through the blinds, but Kyungsoo was still not ready to leave the bed, especially when his sun kissed husband is sprawled over it.

He turns to face Jongin’s sleeping figure; long lashes resting against flawless skin, plush lips having the addicting taste of never-ending sweetness, nose that Kyungsoo couldn’t help but nuzzle, so he leans and does just that.

Though Jongin was a deep sleeper, he’s a er for Kyungsoo’s cuddles that he immediately woke up upon feeling the other’s nose on his. He smiles and takes Kyungsoo closer by the waist, humming in great contentment of having such an adorable partner in his life.

“Awake already?” Kyungsoo asked as he felt Jongin’s arms around him.

The other hums and brushes their lips together, satisfying enough for a morning kiss.

“Hmm.. Have to leave early for work?” the younger asks with one eye opened.

Kyungsoo bits his lower lips and nods. His senses are telling him to get up already or he’ll be late, but his body moved contradictory as he snuggled closer to his husband, burying his face on the warmth of the crook of Jongin’s neck.

“I should.. but I don’t want to.” his reply muffled by Jongin’s skin.

Jongin wrapped his arms around him and let his fingers trace the pebbles of Kyungsoo’s spine, humming as he pressed a kiss at the crown of Kyungsoo’s head.

For almost two years, this had been Kyungsoo’s drive to push through the day: Jongin’s kisses, hugs, his fingers gliding against his skin and his daily

“Seize the day, princess.”

All that and Kyungsoo is geared up for the day.

--

“Hey, isn’t your anniversary coming up?” Joonmyeon asked, a cup of sweet tea pressed to his palm.

It’s their three pm break and the best friends agreed to take a break at their usual café, working on a publishing company is indeed no child’s game, but it’s still a miracle how these two still manage to look glorious despite of the stress.

“Yeah, this Friday.”

“So are you planning on something for Jongin?”

Kyungsoo placed his cup down the table and reached for the napkin to wipe his lips, “Haven’t thought of anything yet. Jongin’s been busy with the company these days. He hardly even made it to Kris hyung’s wedding and sometimes he’s getting home late. I don’t think we’ll be able to celebrate.” He said with a sad smile.

“Well I can’t blame Jongin, being the only heir of their company is indeed tough. You need to understand him Kyungsoo.” The older reached for his hand resting atop of the table and gave it a little squeeze.

“But still you have to plan something! What do you know, maybe Jongin will take a break just to celebrate. You both know anniversaries are important.”

“Yeah,” Kyungsoo smiles. “Yeah we know.”

He hopes so.

A waitress then came by, placed one chocolate truffle and one cheesecake. Joonmyeon thanked the waitress and pushed the plate of chocolate truffle towards Kyungsoo.

“My treat, because I observed you’ve been craving a lot of food lately.”

Kyungsoo stared at the sweet but couldn’t find the appetite to eat it.

“Thanks hyung. But I don’t think I have the appetite right now.”

The older stops midway at his cheesecake and stared wide-eyed in disbelief at the younger, “What? This one’s your favorite, what happened?”

Kyungsoo scrunched his nose, everything that he smells making him dizzy at the sudden.

“I don’t know. I just don’t like eating chocolates right now.”

“You’ve never refused any type chocolate!”

“Uhm, maybe my body changed preferences over food?”

There was silence before them until Joonmyeon finally reached for the cake and start to eat it himself.

“Don’t blame me if you regret it later today, alright?”

--

Three days later, Joonmyeon had taken note how the younger skipped meals and how tired he looked lately. He offered him food non-stop but the younger always refuses, saying I’m not hungry or I’m not in the mood for this and that but finds him by the sink of the restroom at the end of the day, throwing his lungs out with the flow of the cold water by the faucet.

“Alright, this whole change of preference over food thing is definitely not it. We’re going to the hospital.”

Kyungsoo found himself at 4 pm on a Friday afternoon on his best friend’s car making their way to the hospital.

“I’m what?”

“You’re pregnant, Mr. Do.”

“I’m what?”

“You’re preg—“

“Okay doctor, there’s no need to tell him for the 9th time now. My friend here just needs the time to down it all. Thank for your service to us.” Joonmyeon flashed the aged man his sweet smile and bowed one last time before ushering the still incredulous Kyungsoo out.

“Hyung… I’m pregnant.” The wide-eyed boy says, little by little, again and again in a soft whisper. “I’m pregnant… I’m pregnant.. Hyung I’m going to be a mother.”

“Kyung, actual a fathe—“

“I’m going to raise a child with Jongin!” he grabs the older’s shoulder as a wide smile broke on his face. “I’m going to be a parent, me and Jongin are going to be parents!” he exclaims with tears b his eyes, making his eyes glassy. Kyungsoo was shaking, but he can tell it was because of excitement.

“Hyung I’m—I’m pregnant a-and—“

“Kyung-“ Joonmyeon cups the younger’s face, wiping the tears rolling down the younger’s beautiful face with his thumb. “Yes you’re having a family with Jongin now and I am very happy for you, but please this is not the time to cry Kyungie. You should tell Jongin!”

“Yes, yes I should!” he responds with a smile, wiping his tears as he looked at his wristwatch. “He must be home now, I think it’s best to tell him personally.”

“That’d be great.” Joonmyeon ruffles his hair. “Congratulations Kyungsoo, I’m really happy for you.”

“Thank you hyung..” he hugs the older tightly, couldn’t help but burst in laughter with his overwhelming happiness.

“Off you go.”

“Okay, bye hyung! See you!”

Joonmyeon watched as Kyungsoo practically leaped his way to the bus stop, he can’t help but smile. The once childish Kyungsoo is now bearing a child and will be a parent in a matter of months.

He shakes his head and smiled even brighter.

What a surprising turn of events it had been.

--

Kyungsoo nearly breaks the front door upon gushing in to the living room, only to find it empty. The whole house seemed empty, save for a bright colored note by the center table that immediately caught his attention.

Seoul University Field, 7:00 pm

Love,

The most perfect husband ;)

Kyungsoo glanced at the clock hanging by the wall and squeaked, he’s already half an hour late. Scrambling, he takes his keys again and runs for it.

By the time he reached the field, Jongin was already by the table, walking to and fro with phone pressed by his ears. That was only when Kyungsoo realized his phone was vibrating.

He fished it out and pressed the answer button.

“Hey—“

“Baby where are you?” Comes Jongin’s worried voice, “Are you not home yet? Where are you?”

Kyungsoo presses the back of his hand to his mouth as to suppress the laughters threatening to spill. “Calm down okay? I’ve been home.”

“Oh..” Jongin softened, at least. “Have you read my note?”

“Maybe?” the older responds teasingly.

“What do you mean maybe?” Jongin’s was about to ask more of the other’s whereabouts but was surprised to feel two small arms hugging his waist and an all too familiar warmth pressed against his back. He tucks his phone back to his pocket and slowly tangles his fingers with the smaller’s warm ones.

“How long have you been here?” Jongin asks, turning his head a little to see his husband’s face.

“Soon enough to see you frantic.” He said grinning, he then tiptoes to brush their lips lightly. “Sorry if I’m late.”

Jongin sighs with a smile and turns around to gather his beloved in his arms. The other pressed himself closer, comfortable with the heat the other gives him.

“It’s okay.” He kisses the crown of Kyungsoo’s head. “Come on, let’s have dinner first.”

Jongin led him to the table, pulled the chair for him to sit and kissed his cheek before toddling his way to his seat across Kyungsoo’s.

The dinner was simple but Kyungsoo couldn’t help but smile brightly, Jongin across him was beaming too.

When they finished dinner, they both agreed to take a walk across the field. Hand in hand they cherished the gentle spring breeze. This is where their love began, in this very school. The first moment they laid eyes on each other, the frustrated and longing looks, the side glances, the secret smiles, and eventually, the foundation of their love. It had been two years, but it only seemed like yesterday when Kyungsoo kissed Jongin for the first time. It only seemed yesterday when they heard the words I love you from each other’s mouth.

It seemed only yesterday when they fell in love.

“Kyung?”

“Hm?”

Jongin pulls him until they’re only a breath apart, sweet smiles then broke on their faces.

“Happy 2nd anniversary.”

They kissed again, slow but certain. Jongin’s hand was at the small of Kyungsoo’s back while Kyungsoo has his grip on the other’s firm arms. When they parted, everything seemed bright. Not even the gleams of the moonlight could beat the brightness of their smiles.

“Sorry if I’m busy these days. But I promise, I’ll take a break as soon as things at the office are settled. I really want to spend more time with you.”

“That’s okay.” Kyungsoo pats the younger’s right cheek to assure him, “It’s fine with me, really.”

This is also one of the things why Jongin is deeply in love with his husband, no matter what the circumstances are, the other seems to understand it all. There were no hard feelings though he comes home late at night and even though they couldn’t spend much time together like before. But Kyungsoo’s always there with his smile, ready to say it’s always okay and that he understands.

“Jongin? I have something to tell you.”

“What is it?” the younger leans to rub their noses together.

Kyungsoo leans to the other’s ear and whispers softly, “I’m pregnant.”

Kyungsoo felt Jongin went still, he didn’t move even after seconds passed. Kyungsoo backed away to study the other’s face, only to see Jongin unblinking and mouth gaping.

“Y-you’re pregnant? That means, I-I’m going to be a—“

“Yes Jongin,” he cups the other’s face, “You’re going to be a dad, and we’re going to be parents.”

Jongin finally blinks, tears already b at his eyes.

“Oh my God Kyungsoo. I’m going to be a daddy.”

Kyungsoo mutters yes and yes over and over with a smile, his own tears stinging his eyes.

Jongin suddenly shouts, lifting Kyungsoo off the ground and twirls them both around. Laughter filled the air with the screams I’m going to be a daddy! We’re having a baby! And when he finally set Kyungsoo down he showered him with countless kisses with giggles in between.

“I’m going to be a father!” Jongin runs across the field, arms wide open as he screamed again and again. Kyungsoo watched his husband, his heart thrumming so fast for he didn’t expect Jongin to be this happy.

When Jongin finally came down from his high, he steps back to Kyungsoo and hugs his husband tightly.

“Thank you Kyungsoo, thank you for coming into my life.”

--

Kyungsoo wakes up feeling something warm against his stomach. He squints his eyes open and finds his husband’s head pressed lightly against his stomach, palm gliding warmly at his bump.

“Morning.” Kyungsoo greets drowsily making Jongin perk up.

“Oh, did I wake you up?”

Kyungsoo nods himself and Jongin’s face fell sorry, he reached up to his 8 month-pregnant husband and kissed his lips.

“I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay,” he threads his fingers at Jongin’s slick hair, “What we’re you doing?”

“Bonding with my little princess down here.” He presses his face again to Kyungsoo’s belly, a smile settling on his lips. “She said good morning mommy.”

The past eight months were heaven for Kyungsoo. Jongin was always there despite his busy schedule to monitor Kyungsoo. He was always happy when they had appointment with the doctor, too eager to know the progress of their little princess.

There was a kick by Kyungsoo’s stomach and they both stilled.

“Kyungsoo she kicked!” Jongin exclaims, kissing Kyungsoo’s cheek in delight. “Hey there princess, it’s me daddy.” He says softly as he let his palm glide across Kyungsoo’s bump, “Just a week more okay? Be a good little girl. Mommy’s really doing her best to take care of you.”

Kyungsoo almost cried upon seeing Jongin’s gentle expression. His eyes were mild, just as gentle as the press of his hand in Kyungsoo’s skin, the smile in his face was unfaltering. Life couldn’t get any better for him.

“Hey, what should we name her?” Kyungsoo asks as the thought crossed his mind. He’s only a week away from delivery but they still haven’t decided what will be the name of their little princess.”

“Hmmmm.. I was thinking about Soojin.” Jongin eyes Kyungsoo in approval, “Is it okay?’

“More than okay. It sounds beautiful.”

“Of course she’ll be beautiful. She’s our child after all.” Jongin then lies beside Kyungsoo and wraps his arm over Kyungsoo’s stomach lightly enough not to make him uncomfortable.

“I can just imagine she’ll be as beautiful as you.”

And I wish she’d be as admirable as you, Kyungsoo thought.

--

3 days before his delivery, Kyungsoo found the space beside him unoccupied. The door was ajar and the lights by the living were still on. Jongin might have overtime, he thought.

He pushes himself slowly out of bed and walks down the hallway. Upon reaching the living room, he saw Jongin slumped by the kitchen table with only one paper by the table.

“Oh, I thought he was working.”

Kyungsoo walks to the table cautious enough not to wake up the other. The lone paper was pressed under Jongin’s cheek, it seems like he was writing something. Kyungsoo tried to peer, but most of the sentences were covered by Jongin’s face so he decided to pull it slowly to read.

Our Little Princess,

I know it will be years after when you read this but I just want you to know how happy we are to have you in our life.

Even though daddy’s not good with children, I’ll do everything to be the best father for you.

I’ll brush your teeth, comb your hair before you go to school. I’ll drive you everywhere and buy you all of the sweets in the world. Though daddy doesn’t know how to braid hair, I’ll practice okay? So that my baby will look pretty before going to school.

Me and mommy will buy you pretty clothes and will always be here for you.

Soojin, we might not be the perfect parents but you will always be our perfect little princess.

Be a good little girl okay?

Daddy loves you so much.

By the time Kyungsoo finished the short letter, tears were already trailing down his cheeks. He looked at his husband who’s still smiling even in sleep.

Everything is just perfect with Jongin and Soojin around.

--

“Mr. Kim?” the doctor calls by the delivery room.

Jongin immediately stood up, hands clammy with sweat, “Y-Yes?”

The doctor flashed him a gentle smile as he motioned him to come, “It was a smooth deliver, come and see your little angel.”

Jongin walked slowly inside the room, Kyungsoo was at the bed, awake and carrying a bundle by his arms. His face was still glistening with sweat, but the smile gracing by his lips tells that it was all worth it. The pain was worth to bring this little angel on earth.

“Hey..” Kyungsoo greets immediately, patting the space beside him for Jongin to sit.

Jongin scooted slowly and peered at the bundle Kyungsoo is holding.

He felt like crying.

She was beautiful.

“She’s prefect.” He whispers, his voice strained with uncontainable feelings. “Kyung she’s really beautiful.”

“She is..” Kyungsoo answers softly, swaying his arms side to side slowly. “Do you want to hold her?”

“I-I don’t know if I can manage.”

“Of course you can.”

“What if she won’t like me?”

“Jongin you’re her dad, of course she loves you.”

With a deep sigh, Jongin willed himself and opened his arms to receive the little bundle of joy. She was as light as a feather, her complexion that of Kyungsoo’s, her lips undeniably after his and Jongin couldn’t help but awe.

“Hey baby..” he coos. “It’s me daddy, daddy Jongin.” He laughs softly.

“She got your lips.” Kyungsoo mutters softly as he caressed little Soojin’s cheek.

“I hope her eyes will be as adoring as yours.”

Kyungsoo only smiled and watched as Jongin leaned to plant a soft kiss on his daughter’s forehead.

“Welcome to the family, little princess.”

--

Jongin wakes up with the sun still not in the horizon. He turns to stare at Kyungsoo lying by his stomach, skin as fair as the snow and lips as red as the cherries. Jongin smiles, he was indeed one lucky guy having this angel by his side. His thoughts then wandered to the other room beside theirs and he found himself out of the bed and walking towards it.

The room was painted sky blue, toys surrounding the little crib by the center of the room. Jongin peeks down the crib and smiles to see little Soojin with her big round eyes open, starring at him adoringly.

“My little princess is awake too?”

He leans down to gather his daughter in his arms; she’d grown a lot over the course of 5 months. Little Soojin never fails to make her dad smile, she holds her dad’s finger fully with her little ones, she giggles, her eyes disappearing into a thin line.

“Our little angel.” He whispers and plants a kiss at Soojin’s forehead.

He couldn’t ask for more.

He was given an angel for a husband, and now he found another set of wings in his daughter.
