Loving the Unseen

*Sandara’s pov*

Me and Jiyong were friends since we were young. And at my young age back then, my heart

was weaker than the other kids. I only play with Jiyong because I couldn’t catch up with the

other kids. Jiyong is the type of kid that doesn’t play a lot because he gets tired easily; he’s

not the sporty type of kid. We always go to the park to get some fresh air and play a little,

then after that we go to our place and rest, play a little again and have a little chat. I’ve never

been to a school my entire life. I study at home because my doctor say that I might not handle

the stress and the pressure the school can give. So, when Jiyong’s school is over, he always

gives me a visit and always have or little chat.. We only go to the park during weekends since

Jiyong started going to school. He tells me a lot about going to school. How busy the corridors

can get when the school bell rings, or how much homework are there to finish in a day, and

meeting lots of friends, which all I’ve never done before. “Wow, I guess I’ll never be in a

school. That’s too much work for me and my heart” I said after listening to his stories. “Yeah,

school can be a bit hard sometimes. But no matter how much you want to go there, you

can’t.-“because my heart might not handle it, I know.” I cut him off. “Isn’t it time for your

medicines?” Jiyong asked to change topic. “Oh yeah, here comes unni with them”. The next day,

he’ brought a book, he I should read it, the story was a bit similar with mine. It’s about a girl

no capable of doing anything because of many hindrances, but she got through it because of her

friend’s help. “You should finish that by next week, I’ll bring you another book by then.”

He did the usual and goes to our place every afternoon and check out how I’m doing with the

book he gave me. But on the day I finished the book he gave me, he didn’t come on time, it was

his first time being late. Hours later, he came panting and got the book in his hand. “Sorry I’m

late. There was an accident on the road and cost some traffic making me late. Sorry. Have you

finished the book I gave you last week? Here’s the other one”. While we were talking, I can’t

help but feel at ease that he’s here safe and sound.

Dara didn’t know about the real thing that happened. The accident Jiyong was talking about

was his. The car he was in was caught in an accident. The car crashed into a big truck, killing

Jiyong instantly because he was crushed in between. The rescuers found Jiyong handling a

book. He was rushed to the hospital and called his relatives because he was dead on arrival. His

mom gave the book to dara’s sister and told her it was for Dara. But when Dara’s sister was

about to give her the book, she was surprised and puzzled with what she saw. Dara was reading

the same exact book Jiyong was about to give her, and it seems like she was talking to someone.

But there was no one beside Dara. She never told Dara of what happened to Jiyong. Its better

that way, that Dara has still got her friend, loving the unseen.
