Hitomi swallows. Her brown eyes dart all over the silent classroom, where not a single one of them is eyeing elsewhere but Hitomi. Their gazes scream morbid fascination—and some of them actually are on the edges of their seat, clearly looking forward to knowing what is this human truly fear.
Correct—Hitomi is the only human in this class. The only normal human, with no magic power or affiliated familiars. Just a normal one.

“Nothing will harm you,” the Instructor says kindly, yet his eyes are also darting around the classroom, red yes just as menacing as the twisted horns just above his crown. “I assure you, Miss Honda. Having a Guardian means that you will be always protected from your fear, so it’s okay for us to hear it.”
Hitomi swallows again. She clenches her scroll tight, then in a shaky voice, she whispers:
“Vampires.”
The Guardian will manifest itself approximately one week after she activated her scroll.
