The Roommate

Have you ever had a person—who could wreck your day as soon as you see their face?

I have.

My name is Bae Joohyun, and please…call me Irene. And I want to tell you guys a story about my roommate, Kang Douche Seulgi.

Well, douche is not her middle name, unfortunately. Too bad though, it’d fit her perfectly. Where was I again? Oh, right—Kang Douche. Alright, so, it started when I was looking for a roommate.

It was just me, and my friends—Jisoo and Wendy. We were hanging out in the living room as we were also waiting for my soon-to-be roommate. I was picking up some trash and everything, because I wanted to see the house spotless, so my soon-to-be roommate wouldn’t think of me as a dirty person.

“What if she’s a serial-killer? Or a drug dealer?” Jisoo suddenly said.

“Jisoo,” I sighed. “We’ve talked about this.”

“But seriously, Irene, you could’ve told us that you needed a roommate. We could look for someone we know to be your roommate.” Wendy said.

“She has a point.” Jisoo added.

I chuckled while sweeping the floor.

“Guys, It’s okay! And also if you haven’t notice I don’t really feel comfortable with your circle of friends, no offense.”

Jisoo pouted, “you really need to go out more.”

“True that. And do a bit of makeover.” Wendy added.

I turned my body to face them and placed my hands on my hip.

“Seriously?”

Jisoo and Wendy did not get a chance to reply as we heard the bell rang. That must’ve been her. I thought. I threw the broom to Wendy and ran to the front door. I was so excited, as I had never had a roommate before. I took a few seconds to tidy up my hair, my glasses, myself in general before I finally opened the door.

And there she was.

Long legs, black wavy hair, black leather jacket…super gorgeous. She was smiling so bright that I was so sure that it could blind me.

“You must be Irene!” She suddenly pulled me into a hug. I was a bit surprised because I actually am not much of a hugger, especially to people I just met.

I laughed nervously, “and you must be Seulgi.”

God, she smells so good.

Yeah.

I did think she smelled good.

I also did notice that she only brought a medium size luggage. I peeked outside.

“Is there a moving truck or…?”

“Nope!” She said as she entered the house—I had not invited her in. “Just this.”

I nodded.

“Okay…Your room is the one on the right.” I pointed at the hallway. “My room is just at the opposite…in case you need anything.”

She gave me a soft smile.

“Sure.”

I tip-toed back to the living room to see my friends, and as soon as they saw me they asked,

“What does she look like?” Wendy said, her eyes went huge.

“Any sign of craziness?” Jisoo asked.

“What? No. She’s just a normal girl! So normal!” I whispered.

“She must be a drug dealer. No one is so normal.” Jisoo commented, Wendy nodded.

I smacked my palm against my face, I was about to say something when we heard Seulgi’s footsteps. She was heading to the living room, and as soon as she entered; I felt like everything was moving in slow motion. I was sure that Jisoo and Wendy also felt that way because I saw their jaw dropped.

“You guys must be Irene’s friends!” She excitedly said and pulled the two losers into her arms. This girl is one hell of a hugger. And I couldn’t help but notice how firm her arms are as she had changed into sleeveless—backless shirt; goddammit she is gorgeous.

I was actually afraid because Jisoo did not shut up about having a serial killer or a drug dealer as a roommate. And turned out that Seulgi was pretty harmless.

Until we entered the first month of living together, I started to notice that the dirty dishes were always piled up even though nobody was home—Seulgi was never home. She always arrived late, and possibly drunk. She sure had a lot of social life. I let her slide that time, and then I noticed that the food supply that I kept in the fridge was gone, too. So, I bragged into her room and she was there, sitting on her bed with her laptop on her lap; staring at me with a smirk.

“Yes?” She said. Her voice sounded so attractive but let’s pretend that I didn’t think that way.

“Did you eat all our food supply and leave the dirty dishes in the sink?” I asked, straight to the point.

“What if I did?” She replied back with a question. Only God knew how much I wanted to punch that smug expression from her face.

“What if you—We live together so we need to take the responsibility together!” I said, putting the emphasis on the word together.

She got up and approached me, and I couldn’t help but stare at her slightly tanned gorgeous legs. She was wearing a pair of short, it wasn’t my fault.

“How about…” She eyes me up and down, “you stop being a mom and do all that?”

She pushed me out from her room gently and closed the door in front of my face. I tried to open it but it was locked.

“You’re so annoying!” I said, and I was so sure I could head a giggle behind the door.

A few months later, I saw Seulgi a lot more often at home. And I tried to avoid her as much as possible and I was certain that did the same, too. It was better that way, and part of me was glad that she decided to play that way too.

One day, I finally able to brought my long time crush from my university to have a cup of tea at home. His name was Park Bogum. He was such a brilliant man, kind, gentle. Everything went so smooth and I almost—almost had my first kiss until Seulgi came out from her room with a set or electric guitar and an amplifier as she loudly played the instrument. She did stop for a few seconds when I yelled at her, telling her to stop. But instead, she turned the volume up and finally Bogum felt uncomfortable and told me that he’d just go home.

“See what you just did?!” I yelled at her.

“Saving you from a real douche? You’re welcome!” She yelled back.

“You’re the realest douche! He is such a good man! And I like him!” I replied.

But, it wouldn’t be Douche Seulgi if she did not have a face to argue back, so she did.

“Well, I don’t like him!” She picked up the guitar set and walked inside her room. But, before she could close the door I said,

“You don’t even know him.”

She just turned her body slightly, “I don’t need to.” And she closed the door.
