Forgotten and Abandoned Friends

Forgotten and Abandoned Friends

Imagine you, yourself
Abandoned on the streets
You’d think to oneself
What did I do wrong
What did I do to deserve this
I thought that we were getting along
But now there’s nothing I can do
I’ve been abandoned, thrown away
By the one that I trusted, you
If only I could speak
If only I were human
Maybe then, I could talk to you and I wouldn’t be so blue
Find out why you did what you did
But I am not human, and my heart has been broken by no one else but you
I can only wonder
Why you did what you did
I can only miss the days we were together
Even if it wasn’t long
They were still precious to me in a way
And now I have to be strong
But I can’t ever get rid of the scar deep in my heart
The one put there by you who has abandoned me
You, the one who teared my heart, my whole being, my whole soul, apart
Imagine them
The ones who go through this
The ones who used to be a gem
The ones that shone brightly for the person they love
Only to be thrown away and forgotten
Instead of feeling loved, they feel like a pair of used gloves
The ones you toss away when you’re done
The ones you don’t even spare a glance at when you have no use for them anymore
But the way they feel is much worse, like being shot by a gun
No pain in the world could compare with being thrown away by a loved one
What about not even knowing why?
You’d feel like your life was done
Can you imagine that
All the pain that you, me, us humans cause
Do you see where I’m trying to get at?
You need to see how big of a problem this really is
Before it’s already too late to fix
The ones that used to be hers or his
Has lost that title and is wallowing in despair
As the ones they trusted most have abandoned them
The ones that they loved the most are no longer there
8 million. 12 million. The number of our friends entering the shelter every year
Do you even know how many of them make it out?
This might even make you shed a tear
5 out of 10 dogs. 7 out of 10 cats. You think they make it?
No. You’re wrong there. They don’t make it
They have no choice. To death, they must submit
All because there’s not enough room
Shelters are overflowing and they just can’t hold them all
So our friends can only pray and enjoy life, if they can, before they reach their doom
Each year, about 2.7 million. Spared? No. Dead.
People can help
But many just walk ahead
You worry about homeless people much more than homeless animals right?
Well, do you know how many there are compared to people?
They outnumber homeless people 5 to 1, their futures not as bright
And do you know the reasons why they are where they are?
I’ll give you some examples, but don’t be too surprised
These are some of the reasons why their heart carries a scar
An akita named Komeka returned
Because her new owner’s fiance was scared of her
The scar they left on Komeka, they were not concerned
A catahoula puppy, Cooper brought back
Because the owners didn’t think it through
And time to take care of him, they lack
A beagle mix named Dolly, can you guess the reason for her goodbye?
It is simpler than you think, but just as hurtful, if not more
She was thrown away because of the reason that she was simply just too shy
What about Torch, a lab mix? He was really lovable
Despite that, he was returned pretty quickly, but do you know why?
Because he was more work that they could handle. For Torch, wouldn’t this be unforgettable?
Now what about Charlie, a cuddly grey cat?
His reason us one of the most absurd ones
Returned for being too “affectionate.” Can you believe that?
Then there’s also a rat terrier named Jax. He’s an adorable little guy
But he was returned because his adopter’s wife simply said...  “no”
Now Jax can only cry because they said bye and wonder why
But what about Rocko, a lovable little pitbull?
His reason was that no one in his new family took care of him
Did they just didn’t care enough or did they think that he he was too much of a handful?
All of these reasons are just the tip of the iceberg
There are probably way more stupid reasons out there
If only people could have a more open mind and a heart much nicer
If only they thought everything through first before they make such a big decision
Maybe then, we could’ve avoided this problem before it escalated
But I doubt people had such a vision
To know that things would be like this
They would’ve done things different
But we didn’t and we couldn’t avoid this devil’s kiss
That is why I am writing this now
Showing you the truth that was veiled for a long time
Grateful if the concern seeping in your heart, you allow
Grateful if you choose to care
Grateful if you choose to see
They’d be grateful for you just being there
By their side
Showing your love and helping them
Along their tough ride
They’re grateful if you don’t deny them
If you don’t deny this problem
And try your best to restore them gem
The one that they used to be
Before the hurt and scars
The pain, they just need everyone to see
You may think that you, one person, can’t change much
But that’s where you’re wrong
With your care and your heart, their scar can be healed with one soft touch
Nothing big is necessary. You don’t have to adopt
Just warn people of this before the mistake is made
And this problem can be stopped
Now, it won’t just disappear
It has already become too big
And there are too many lonely animals out there
But just lend a hand
To our very dear friends
And you’d be surprised at the new wonderland
