Final

Sweetest Downfall

“Your mission is to obtain info about the Warrior’s remaining basement. Kill the young leader if you wish to.”

“So do I get a bonus for sinking their ship?” A purple haired girl said absent-mindedly while fixing her nail.

“I’m afraid not, Irene.” Jessica grunted. “Bear in mind that you have already caused a big problem to us last time.”

“You guys are no fun. I only kicked a guy in the balls.” Irene huffed.

“THAT GUY is the grandson of your general! You’d be dead even if you are the only one who can walk out of any mission impossible.” Jessica always feels speechless for Irene’s reckless and over-venturesome personality. This girl is totally fearless and when it comes to kicking , she won’t be absent whenever it is something kinda crazy.

“I always have a backup plan, girl. I’m sure the general won’t want any videos of his grandson begging like a little girl to leak out.” But at the same time she can’t deny that this girl has some good brain cells, and Jessica always enjoy her company. They don’t need to put any barriers or defences up when they converse. The younger will always find ways to mock the older whenever she has the chance. Annoying, but yet, the mindless interactions relaxed her nerves from the ever-going planning and organising on their agent. For that, she is grateful towards the younger.

“I am older than you. Mind your address, Bae Joohyun.”

“Don’t get all mawkish with unimportant things like that Jessie.”

“You know what is important? Your greatest nemesis, the Alchemist is going to help the Warrior.”

Irene frowned. “What? Why? Warrior killed her partner.”

“I don’t know. This time you won’t have a partner with you but the secret agent will still save your if you get into deep trouble.”

“It’s ty that you still won’t tell me who that secret agent is.”

“Well that’s the whole point, they ARE secret agents.”

Irene rolls her eyes, “Whatever.”

“Better go prepare you lazy .”

“At least they are finer than yours.”

“But still, yours can never beat the Alchemist’s.”

“ert.”

“Says the king of it. And you are the founder of that mighty .”

“I’m out.” Irene scoffed, slipping out of the office just when Krystal comes in.

--

Irene sits on the edge of the roof terrace, swinging her feet in a slow rhythm.

“Is it about the Alchemist?” A voice popped up from behind, interrupting her thoughts.

Irene stays quiet, contemplating if she should unveil her perception.

The blonde accepts her silence as she jumps onto the wall and sits beside her, swinging her legs to the other’s rhythm.

“I feel so confused.”

The girl listens as she says nothing, patiently waiting for Irene to continue.

“Wendy, she isn’t supposed to help the Warrior.”

“What’s wrong with that? And it is Wendy now?”

“She saved me. When she didn’t need to.” Irene sighs before she continues.

“It was a year ago. Remember that time when I was injured so bad that I couldn’t even move for a week? We were at the Warrior’s science lab for two different missions. Hers was to save her partner while mine was to destroy the Warrior’s newest bio weapon. We reached an agreement to not interfere with each other’s business.”

Feeling a bit depressed about this topic, Irene stands up, pacing back and forth on the wall, focusing on balancing to keep her mind off the emotional feeling that is going to rush in.

“The ironic thing is, Wendy’s partner was the bio-weapon that the Warrior succeeded in making. She was brainwashed, both of us can do nothing but to destroy her. I got hit, hard. One blow and my bone cracked. The beast was impossible to beat so I activated the timed bombs I’ve planted beforehand and told her to leave while I distract the beast until the timer reaches it’s end.”

“You would have died too.”

“I had no encumbrance back then.”

Silence emerges once again, waiting for the raven-haired girl to continue her story.

“The Alchemist did left. I tried my best to trick the beast into staying at the center of the explosion.”

The raven started to do handstands, slowly forming a yoga pose.

“The beast caught me off my guard, successfully immobilising me. Just when its claw was an inch away from my throat, it went completely frozen, literally. Wendy managed to modify the freezing machine just in time and used it upon the beast. ‘This should freeze it long enough’, she said.”

She changed into another yoga pose. Tiny drops of sweat starts to form on her forehead.

“She could have escaped safe and sound if she hadn’t come back. I guess her injuries might be worse than mine.”

“What happened?” gulping a mouthful of air. Krystal has been so immersed in the scene that only did she realise that she might have had hold her breathe for more than 10 minutes.

“She helped me up, carried me on her back and ran. The bomb exploded when she was about to reach the exit. She realised the chance of outrunning the explosion will be impossible so she put me down and hovered on top of me, covering me as much as she can.”

“The bomb exploded and she took most of the explosion upon herself. The pillar collapsed and hit her on the head. She went unconscious, while I out from exhaustion.” Irene closes her eyes, immersed in her memories.

“We miraculously managed to stay alive even when the building turned into ashes. Both of our agents came looking for us, taking us back separately. I have not seen her since.”

“Rumours said that she is going to retire after this mission.” Krystal looks sympathetically towards the older girl. She can feel now. Somehow Irene developed some kind of attachment towards her nemesis since that incident, or maybe she already had even long before that.

“Then I shall also start considering mine too.” Irene gazes afar as the Sun sinks down in the evening sky, perfectly demonstrating how her life is going to be later on. At least she hopes she is with someone when the stars come falling on her head.

--

“Wendy!”

Seulgi lunges forward and engulfs a petite blonde in a red hoodie with her infamous bear hug.

“I can’t breathe, Seulbear!”

“Enlighten me with what you are doing Kang.” A strained raspy voice made both of the girls shivered in horror. Joy is definitely someone not to be neared when she gets jealous, or angry, or playful, or when she is plotting something evil.

“W-wait, I can explain.” Wendy slips away when the bear tries to comfort her scary girlfriend. She sure doesn’t want to be there for the whole day watching diabetes-inducing PDA while she has no one to apply the same towards.

She goes to the armoury. A spectacled blonde figure in a lab coat throws daggers at her as she steps in. Wendy dodges it with ease like she can do it with her eyes closed. “Hi Yuri.”

The blonde hums and proceeds to the weapon rack. Wendy still doesn’t understand why she would wear a y black leather combat outfit under her lab coat when there ain’t any occasion that would need her to go into battlefield immediately. Does she not feel cold wearing something that short in the office? “She is hot like that.” That’s what YoonA said.

“Here.” Yuri tosses  her some sort of nerd glasses and ear pieces like it’s a piece of trash. “It’s a probability alert. If they senses anything dangerous to you, it will show on the glasses if it is in you vision, or alert you if it isn’t.”

She then tossed her another black old style mobile phone looking thing. “Portable bulletproof shield. These still are new product and have yet been fully tested. However. Taeyeon wants you to have these for this mission. Good luck.”

She nodded then retrieves some weapons she used usually in combat..

Wendy knows that she is going against Irene. She has to do it no matter what because it is her last mission before her retirement.

“Don’t try to kill yourself once more you dumbhead.” She remembers the leader’s admonishment which she repeats again and again every time she meets her, ever since her final mission is confirmed.

Someone asked her about her future resolution, yet she wasn’t able to answer. She has never given any thought about it.

She can’t. How is she gonna consider any resolution when they haven't even met or talked for a year now. The only thing she knows about Irene is that she is alive and healthy. Healthy enough to rob Trump's personal vault. Wendy can totally imagine her discourteous face when the girl leaves the building like a boss.

And seriously, she still has no idea why she went back for Irene that time. Her thoughts drifted aimlessly again and again back towards Irene’s flawless face as she last saw her.

“I was only here to destroy the bio-weapon and the data.” she said with a blank face.

And it was that great flawless face with the blank expression that made her worked against the norm this time. “Let’s work together so we can all leave early.”

The purple haired girl didn’t respond and just proceeded deeper into the lab. Wendy’s felt like she had just made a fool of herself but this is not the time for her shy personality to kick in, so she followed quietly behind the raven.

“Go! I will hold her off until the bomb explodes!” The Phoenix shouted as she dodged the claw swung by Amber, the bio-weapon that the Warrior successfully created, who was now hardly recognisable without her short blonde hair and the bracelet she always wear.

“What about you?!” Wendy shouted back as she threw the stool at Amber.

“Why do you even care? Just leave for god’s sake!” This time the claw almost got her but she was able to roll away from it after she was thrown on the ground.

Wendy took a glimpse at Irene’s watch. 10 more minutes. She should hurry.

She remembered the emergency fire extinguisher was located at the end of the alley beside the lab.

Running with all her might, she reached the extinguisher and pulled it out. She brought it to the lab with the freezer room.

Maybe her brain was taken over by a super genius for a second because she successfully added some content into the extinguisher so the bio weapon can be frozen for a moment, enough for them to escape, she hoped.

And they did, Amber was frozen and she saw Irene’s watch, they only have two minutes left.

“Go…” Irene breathed helplessly, her injury is beyond bad and after the adrenaline was out of her system, her limbs go numb, not even determination can get her out of this.

Wendy frowned, she ran towards Irene and carried her, helping the girl to get out.

But she was not fast enough. Although they left the center of explosion but Wendy was not able to get both of them out of the facility in time.

“I’m sorry that I have been a cumbrance.”

“It’s nothing, you~” Those bombs have exploded, building collapsing quickly. Wendy realised that they won’t make it to the exit.

The brunette found a table. Quickly, she ran there and put Irene inside, hugging the girl tightly her back blocked most of the explosion.

What she did not expect was some of those columns that have broken, flew real far and hit her. Her head was hit by a smaller one but the momentum it carried was enough to knock her unconscious.

When she woke up next, she was in her basement, no sign of Irene.

“Irene?”

“She was taken by her team.” Taeyeon said.

They haven’t met since then. It is a bit disappointing but she guessed it will be better for both of them.

After this everything will end. She hopes. And maybe she can meet the girl afterwards, in a more friendly atmosphere. She hopes.

--

Dressed in a red leather jacket and tight leather pants, Wendy is walking on the board of the cruise ship.

“Alchemist!” A well-dressed young man came forward and greeted her. Behind him there are four bulky guys in military-level equipment, rifles in front, handguns, knives, grenades and all sorts of equipments can be seen.

“It is so nice to have you on board!” He reaches for a handshake which wasn’t reciprocate by the brunette.

Seems like the guy has already predict Wendy’s response, he didn’t show any awkwardness.

“There are all sorts of entertainment you can find here. Enjoy yourself.” The man winked before he leaves, as if he is indicating something.

“Ohh, by the way.” The guy turned back once again, smirking.

“Phoenix will hit in this week. Maybe she is already on board. Just for your info.”

Wendy just gaze at the drama in front of her with a blank expression. There is nothing to be happy about in helping an enemy, an enemy who had caused harm to her friends and herself.

But she still has to do her job. She spent all day observing the layout of the ship, determining how will Irene approach the young man earlier.

And she would say it is too ing easy. So she decide to not dwell on it and focuses on another way.

--

Wendy roams around the ship after having her dinner. There is a party going on at the top level of the ship. Since she got nothing to do beside sleeping, she decides to hit the bar and have some drink.

“Would you want to have anything, my lady?” A guy wearing nothing but a black bowtie on his torso, showing his tan skin and abs. Oh he would bury himself in embarrassment if he sees Irene’s abs. But she won’t let it anyway.

“Apple cider please.” She replied with a smile, which falters when she heard a voice later on.

“Make it two, boy.”

A figure has slipped onto the seat beside her. Just like old times, she can automatically sense her presence whenever she is near.

“Say, don’t you want to say hi to your old friend?” There is no one around the bar right now, Wendy sighs and turns around, looking at the captivating female in front of her. The first thing that came to her vision is red. The female is wearing a red satin silk blouse with black fitting pants. With Wendy’s intense observance she can definitely look through the satin to the black lacy bra inside.

She takes a sip of the cider while staring at Irene’s exposed milky skin, eyes trailing up to the neck, then finally the full red lips. It was perfectly balanced, both the lips and the apple cider.

“It’s nice to meet you again.” she fakes a smile and sips on her cider.

“Nice glasses.”

“Thanks.”

“You don’t seem happy to see me at all.” Irene pouts lightly. Irene knows to play her game well. It does stirred up Wendy’s emotions and feelings. At the same time inside her there is fire burning, and it doesn’t get better when she accidentally locked eyes with Irene’s brown pools.

She didn’t realise how close they were until the red disco light emitted on Irene’s undeniable flawless face, her breath hitched and the next thing she inhaled is the light rose fragrance and a whiff of Irene’s scent. She’s pretty sure it was vanilla.

She inhaled deeply for another toxic smell without consent. “I see you have a good time enjoying it.”

Wendy shivered in aback. Her attempt to stop the act failed when the purple hair abruptly leans forward, catching her in surprise, not because of the proximal distance between them. She was surprised more of, that she does not felt uncomfortable with that proximity they had, and she had no idea why, and since when.

Irene’s POV:

Well it’s not fair that she is having fun on her own right? I want to smell her scent too. Okay actually I’m quite confident that she smells like strawberry with lemon. I don’t know but that’s what I felt whenever we interact.

I closed in after I , her exaggerate expression is so cute!

I can hardly control myself to break down and laugh rolling on the floor. Okay gotta admit her lips are seducing, plump and moist. What does it feel like to kiss that..

And the seductress a while ago has a cute blush on her cheek. Did she just act on her mind? Like how’s that possible she did not just kiss that cute hamster who is now has her eyes widen into a coin shape.

Okay maybe she did enjoyed this too much. The feeling of that soft lips on her still remained on her lips, making Irene them unconsciously. Okay this is getting out of control. She should stop she should...

And all those rationality was thrown aside when Wendy slumped her chin on Irene’s shoulder, breathing heavily. The strawberry scent invades into her nose, she tilts towards Wendy’s hair, wanting more.

“You got me, do whatever you want, kill me if you wish to but not here.”

Irene nods. She cannot regret more when she heard the sombre tone of the brunette in her arms.

“I am sorry. But I will never hurt you.” She sighed when she lied Wendy in her bed.

Just when she wanted to leave, a strong grip caught her hand. “Don’t go, I need you.”

She was pretty sure the hypnotics gonna last for a few hours even if Wendy have strong resistance on the drug. How the hell is this happening?

“Irene.” Wendy tugs Irene down and flips her, trapping her under with her wrists pinned. Irene’s furrowed brow soften by the kiss on her lips, replaced by a shocked expression, and a little bit of enjoyment reflected in it.

She has to let them go eventually. Reluctantly, she breaks the kiss. “Wendy, stop...”

Her turndown was overridden by moans when Wendy continues to kiss her neck, lightly on her pulse. Irene stretches her neck backwards, giving access to the stupefied girl above her.

--

On the other hand, three figures sit in the control room, where the guards is nowhere to be seen.

“We should actually let them do their thing, since they won’t live after tomorrow.” A blonde with bangs concluded.

“You just want to watch free high quality , although it is not .” The tallest among them strifes.

A y squirrel with silver hair interrupts before the atmosphere gets hotter. “I get what you gays want. Just go get a room before you do it here and burn my eyes.” She groans. “And momo please don’t drain out Tzuyu. We still have work tomorrow.”

“You’re the best Sana yah!” The blonde hugs the silver haired girl and gives a peck on her cheek before she drags Yoda out of the room, leaving Sana sighing all alone in the room. “I should have brought Dahyun with me.” She said when she leaves the room, having no intention at all to look at anyone’s glory instead of her girlfriend’s.

--

Irene awakes when she no longer felt the warmth in her embrace. The window left open, the curtains were flying around whenever the sea breeze blows, showing a certain petite brunette in her blouse, and she is liking the view.

She wrapped herself in the blanket and gets off the bed. She ambles and slowly closing to the brunette and wraps her into a back hug once she is in front of her.

“You looked good in purple.”

“You looked good in red too.”

But she didn’t wear red tonight. “Okay?”

“Nothing. You look good in anything.”

“That is so sweet of you, Wendy.” She pecks on Wendy’s cheek. “I’m flattered.”

“You are sweet too, for not killing me.”

“I never intended to.”

“What about the aphrodisiac?”

“That was not me, I swear. I didn’t even know until you jumped on me.”

“I guess we have guests in this ship if you are not lying.”

“I never lie.” to you at least. For now.

Wendy lies back into Irene’s embrace. Relaxing her body and closing her eyes. She likes how their body are so familiar with each other, she feels safe when they cuddle, which is not supposed to be felt from a long time nemesis. The unsaid truth scares her, she should just stop thinking about that.

And she almost exposed her illness towards her nemesis. She got too comfortable with all of this. But she might as well not see Irene again after this.

Just this one night. Just one.

Irene buries her head in Wendy’s crook, taking in the strawberry scent of this girl, this girl who has a complicated relationship with her. If only they weren’t nemesis..

--

Irene looked at Wendy. The brunette frowns in her sleep as if she knew Irene is currently not cuddling her. Irene tries to ease the furrow between Wendy’s eyebrows with her thumb. Her hands caressing Wendy’s forehead and kissed them softly before she leaves the warm bed. Once again she saunters towards the balcony.

She leans on the banister and looks at the half moon, her elbow on the railing, supporting the head placed on her palm. “Tell me what you want.”

“I want nothing, you silly.”

Irene is too lazy to move and take a look at the uninvited guest right now so she remains static.

“You should not let your guard down like this.”

“Towards you or Wendy?”

Silence along with the sea breeze wafts on her face.

Irene sighed. “I felt it. You have no intention in hurting me or Wendy. At least for now.”

“Good.”

Sana proceeds to the railings and sits on them. “I am your secret agent.”

Irene hums. “Tell me why you choose to show up this time.”

“Because The Great Force, Peach Fairy, and me has accepted Warrior’s contract to exterminate, both you and Alchemist.”

“If there is only two of them, there won’t be any problem.”

“That was the case if Alchemist didn’t have impairment after the explosion.”

The sentence had Irene snapped her head towards the silvered haired girl. “What do you mean?”

“Wendy’s vision, became tritanopia, ever since the explosion in that base.”

“What?”

“I believe more or less it will affect her combat ability. You cannot defeat the couple alone, not to mention you will not leave Wendy alone and run away yourself.”

“Of course I won’t!”

“I know.”

Irene sighs. She hopes things will be fine tomorrow.

“Do me a favor.”

“That’s what I’m here for.”

--

Wendy was gone when Irene is awake. Her clothes has been folded neatly and put on the couch.

Blearily, Irene turns around to hug the pillow, she sniffs on the remaining scent of Wendy and buries her head deeper into it. Dizzily, she sleeps in again once more. Yesterday was a hell of mental and physical depleting works. But no doubt, Wendy is worth all the trouble.

--

The young man, current leader of Warrior, was tied to his chair when he opened his eyes.

“Oh well hello Phoenix.” he mocks.

“Your smile is irritating enough to me until I feel like castrating you.” Irene replied while she played with her knife.

“Wowowoah, easy, lady. I’m sure you want Alchemist nearby. You don’t want her to come in and interrupt our little session eh?

The grin on his face gets wider when he saw someone make her entrance. “Speak of whom, there is my saviour.”

“Irene. Please don’t do this.”

“You know I can’t.”

The gun pointed towards Irene was fired. Irene dodged to the side in an instant and leapt towards Wendy. She didn’t attack with any weapon. Instead, she pounced on her, grabbing both of Wendy’s wrists after she successfully pinned her down.

Irene looks at Wendy’s brown pools through the glasses. Suddenly Wendy’s iris got bigger and quickly, she circles her legs on Irene’s waist and rolls both of them to the other side. Another gunshot sounded behind Irene. The shot was aimed towards them right at the spot where they were.

“I guess you girls are having a good time right there?” The man is now freed, standing proudly, fixing his collar and sleeves.

“Let me do a proper introduction shall we? I was Sam, currently using the name Changmin. So these girls, are hired, to protect me and kill both of you while you fight each other.”

“You are ing sick.” Irene hissed while both of them stands up.

“Perhaps. But I’m not the one who is injured am I?” he gives out a devilish grin, making Irene’s growl louder as she felt liquid glides through her hands which is currently placing on Wendy’s arm.

“Say, how about you let me propose something?”

Irene stares at the man, she knows nothing good will come out from his mouth.

“I have a gun.” He takes out a revolver from his desk.

“I have a bullet.” Sana passes a bullet to his hand.

“Now,” he takes a sip of his brandy, puts the bullet into the cylinder and spins it.

“I’m sure you heard about Russian Roulette.” he tosses the gun towards Irene.

“And I promise whoever still standing will return safe and sound.”

Without any hesitation, Irene holds the gun on her temple and clicks. An empty one. As expected by Irene when she calculated the probability.

When Wendy is about to take the the gun from Irene, she clicks it once again. And it is still and empty one. Surprisingly Wendy does not flinch once throughout the entire heartbeat-accelerating process, she managed to hold the purple haired from taking another shot.

“Irene, you are breaking rules here.” He shrugged. “But then it’s not like I care, so just go on until one is not standing.”

“Irene.” Wendy whispers. “Shoot him after I click this time.”

Irene stares at Wendy’s eyes, the brunette is not joking nor indecisive. She blinks twice, indicating that she got it.

Without any delay Wendy clicks, it was still an empty bullet.

“Oooh it’s the last two bullet, I wonder who will-” the man was silenced because Irene shot him right after she got the gun.

“As I expected, Sam should have just let us kill them in the first place.” Tzuyu crossed her arms.

“But it would be so boring.” Momo who has her arms on Tzuyu’s waist loosen her grip and she gives Tzuyu a peck one last time. “Now it’s play time.”

“Please don’t blow the ship.” Sana really want to facepalm herself. Just who the heck will immerse in their own world when there is a life-threatening situation around them? Okay maybe she will also do that when Dahyun is around but that’s not the point. “And they are getting away.”

“How about Sam?” Tzuyu glanced on the almost lifeless body.

“Not a fan.”

“Me neither.”

“Let’s just go.” Momo puts her pink machine gun on her shoulder and walks out the door. Tzuyu follows with her arms crossed, followed by Sana at the back.

“Alright smart little mouse, let’s play.” Sana looked at her radar. She then gives sign to the others and they split up.

Momo found them at the deck, the moment she found them she directly fires the gun non-stop until it is out of bullet.

Wendy takes out her portable shield and activates it instantly when she got the alarm from her ear piece. The impact of those bullets are so strong that she almost fell and lost the cover. Irene grabs her waist to support her. Gripping tight on Wendy’s waist, she slowly guides her to the edge of the deck.

“I’m sorry but this is the only way to keep you safe.”

Wendy’s POV:

Just when I was about to ask what she means. I felt a tug from behind. The next second I was in the air, falling down. It happened fast and I readied myself for the water to stuff my breathing.

I was caught by an embrace instead. It was the silver haired girl. “I promised her to get you out, not a single strand of your hair shall be harmed.”

“What about her?”

“She can get herself out more easily if she moves alone.” I nodded. It was ironically true. I just pray to whatever gods who crossed my mind that she will escape safely. Please don’t die.

I still look at the ship when we are already in a far distance. An explosion burns high to the sky and my heart half-stopped. No, no, no, she can’t die like this. She will get out of any situation without any doubt right? She has and she will.

I keep on chanting those words inside, to convince myself that she will be alright. But why oh  why my heart hurts so much?

--

Unlike last time where she can heard stories about the purple haired girl since the explosion in the lab, this time there isn’t any news at all. Her heart is still aching but she will try to live with that.

After her retirement, Wendy moved to a cottage at the countryside of Canada.

She was baking brownies although she can’t see the colours well. Well it’s brown anyway.

A ding to the door startled her when she took out the freshly-made brownies.

Wondering if it’s an actual guest or some couples that visited her a few days ago, she opened the door, and was star-struck by the figure in front.

The person came in with a smile, hugging Wendy tight and ruffles her hair. “I miss you so.”

They stayed there for minutes, just hugging and breathing in each other’s scent. “It’s good that you are alive.”

“I hope you have a large bed, because I’m homeless now.”

Wendy lips proceed to Irene’s, still staying close and lingering for the feeling after one kiss. “That’s not true, you are home now.”
