Flowers In Her Hair

Flowers In Her Hair - Drabble submission

The alarm rang painfully in your ears. Shaking you violently out of your dreams, you almost cussed out loud as you throw your blankets aside.

But then you realised that it wasn't an alarm. Because due to your fiery hatred for them, you didn't even own one.

Apparently, some idiot is ringing your doorbell at seven in the morning. On a Saturday.

Peeping through the hole on the door to confirm the identity of the person standing outside your apartment, you almost broke the door as you snatched it open harshly, along with a brash 'what?'

Jimin met your eyes with a terrified expression. "Did your parents not teach you to have good manners?"

"I am nice to other people who don't wake me up early on a lovely Saturday morning." You grumbled, folding your arms as you stared at him. "What is it?"

Jimin had the nerve to act surprised. "What? Do I even need a reason to visit my best friend?"

Your eyes rolled quite the distance to the back. "Last time I checked you hated coming over because of how far it is, so what is it?."

Jimin sighed. "Alright, I do have something to tell you. But first, can I go in?"

You let him in then, both of you settling down on the squishy couch.

"Where's your roommate?" He asked.

"Out."

Seemingly trying to pass time, Jimin picked up a festive mug off your coffee table. "Ah...this is a nice mug that you have. When did-"

"Jimin," you interrupted, your expression softening. "I don't know why are you hesitating to tell me something because we shared everything with each other, but I want to know that whatever you're gonna say I'm going to take it seriously. So can you please hurry up and tell me?"

Jimin stared at you like a deer caught in headlights. He bit his lip, seeming to be contemplating on how he should phrase it.

"I'm dating Eun Hae."

Time seemed to have stop ticking because, at that moment, you felt as if your brain is on pause. Your mouth open and close as you tried frantically to search for an answer, but nothing comes out.

Jimin is...dating?

You stared back at the hazel brown pupils that you've been familiar with for seven years. Seven years. He has been your best friend for seven years and now he is settling for someone else?

Jimin looked almost afraid for your reaction. "I wanted to tell you...and hear what you think what this."

"Does my opinion matter to you?"

"A lot."

You stayed silent, pondering how the hell should you tell him about the uncomfortable feeling swirling in your stomach. Somehow, your feelings right now are the polar opposite of happy.

And the funny thing is...you already know why the hell are you feeling so upset.

Yeah, you know that having feelings for your best friend is bad, but you just can't seem to stop feeling this way.

It wasn't like this at the start, of course. You two were merely good friends going to elementary school together, sharing a school bus together. He even gave you his raspberry soda once just because you loved it and there was only one left. Somewhere between a windy day in autumn and warm pumpkin rolls, you realised that you were in love with him.

So much for brushing away the feelings. You thought as a heavy weight descended upon your chest.

Jimin called your name suddenly, causing you to snap to attention.

"Do you think it's a good idea for me to date her?" He almost whispered.

Of course not, you wanted to scream. Stay with me.

But just like always, you never listen to the voices in your head.

"Yeah, go ahead. If you're happy, then I guess I'm happy for you too." You shrugged, trying to flash a smile.

You thought you saw a flash of disappointment in his eyes, but it was gone immediately. Jimin stood up, his vision south as he started to shuffle away.

"Right, I guess I should get going now." He muttered.

Your breath was hitched in your throat as you watched him turn around and leave, the view of his back becoming smaller and smaller and finally disappearing as he slammed the door.

For a short moment, you just sat your couch. Dazed. It was then that you realised that Jimin did not want you to approve of his relationship, not at all.

It's not too late. You immediately bolted up from your seat and dashed out the door. You ran down the street in your easter themed pyjamas and penguin flip-flops. People stared, but you didn't care.

You scanned the crowd desperately. Finally spotting a lonely figure walking sadly among the crimson trees, you ran after Jimin as if your life depended on him.

Breathless, you finally reach him. Before he even got a chance to turn around, you threw your arms around him, hugging him so tight that you were sure you almost stopped his breathing.

"Don't...don't date her." You panted, closing your eyes as you inhaled his scent. Jimin's scent.

Jimin was visibly stunned as he stiffened. "So I shouldn't date her?" He asked softly.

"Of course not," You say, the words ringing true in the air. "Stay with me."

There was a moment of silence before Jimin spoke. "How long have you felt like this?"

You knew exactly what he was asking for. "Since the autumn of freshman year."

If you weren't back hugging him, you would have seen a smile blooming across his cheeks as he looked down shyly.

"I beat you again." He answered back happily.

"What?"

"Well, I started feeling this way before you did. You lost to me again." He turned around to stick his tongue out at you before running away.

Grinning from ear to ear, you shouted his name once before chasing him down the street.

Because who cares if you are wearing easter pyjamas anyway?
