Once a person sees someone enthralling to the eyes, they will keep their gaze on that person. Other people see attention as a compliment or something that feeds their ego. Jeongyeon is different – she doesn’t feel that way. She doesn’t think of how the people on the campus see how beautiful her outfit was nor how attractive she is – she thought of questions such as: why her father suddenly decided to enroll her in another university with midterms waiting at the corner of the room.

     Fortunately, Jeongyeon’s subjects were credited. She can graduate with the rest – added to the fact that she is a smart scholar and some meddling with the higher-ups.

    “Now let us see…” Jeongyeon glanced at the paper in her hand. She searched for her room assignment written on the tags of the doors. “MM41—where is that room?”

    Engrossed with finding her room, Jeongyeon accidentally bumped into a student passing by who was too busy with her phone to notice where she is going. 

    “Excuse me,” Jeongyeon said.

    “I am sorry!” The girl apologized while bowing and proceeded on walking.

    Jeongyeon noticed the familiar voice and thought for a moment whether she will call out the stranger’s name. “Dahyun?” She said, unsure, but her intuition is telling her that the girl she bumped into is someone she knew from the past.

    “Jeongyeon?” Dahyun turned around and saw an old friend. “Shut up, it is you!”

    Jeongyeon is delighted to see a familiar face in a place she is new at. Dahyun was Jeongyeon’s childhood friend who stayed in Suwon for a few months before they parted ways. Regardless of the distance, their bond is evident.

    Dahyun continued, “What are you doing here? Since when did you come here? Are you here to visit your sister, your uncle? Or perhaps you are here for a vacation?”

    “Slow down with the questions, Dahyun.” Jeongyeon chuckled and then replied, “I am going to study here until I graduate. It was a sudden transfer as announced by my father a week ago. So, to put it simply, I will be here for a year.”

    “Really? The Midterm is a few weeks ahead! Can you even manage? Oh! Chaeyoung needs to hear about this too!”

    “Chaeyoung is here as well?” Asked the blonde. Dahyun nodded her head in response, “Small world.” 

     Aside from Dahyun, one of Jeongyeon’s childhood friends is a cellist and bassoonist named Son Chaeyoung who was her companion when Dahyun left Suwon. It was a heartbreaking moment for the two when Dahyun had to leave but they know their friendship won’t end there and that they will eventually meet all together again – and they were right.

    Jeongyeon wasn’t expecting that her reunion with her friends would be in Cheongdam-dong. She’s a bit thankful for her transfer since she gets to spend time and see her friends again.

    “Chaeyoung is having her class now. How about we go see her at lunch? The both of us have our lunch scheduled from 10:30 to 12:30.” Dahyun said, looking at the lock screen of her phone which is her schedule. Jeongyeon checked hers as well and the time was the same. “That settles it then! So where are you heading?”

    “I am looking for MM41. Supposedly someone is going to tour me around. I think she is part of the council, but there was an urgent meeting she needs to attend so here I am guiding myself to an unfamiliar environment.”

    “Well, you don’t have to worry now since I, Kim Dahyun, am here to assist you. Also, I think you must have mistaken this building.” Dahyun laughed. “This is the M-Building. MM-Building is at the other side of the area—it is near the C-Building (or we call it the Club building) which is also just across the dorms.”

    While Dahyun lead Jeongyeon to her building and toured her around, they continued their conversation – telling each other’s lives after years apart each other stories about their life after Dahyun left Suwon.

    “By the way, what do you think of Cheongdam-dong and the university so far? Though you’ve only been on the university grounds for a few hours.”

    Jeongyeon nodded her head. “I guess the university isn’t that bad. I just don’t feel comfortable with all the eyes landing on me—I feel like they know or recognize me.”

    “Oh…” Dahyun’s expression changed. “You’re still worried about that?”

    Jeongyeon nodded her head as a yes. “You don’t have to worry about me, Dahyun.”

    They arrived in front of Jeongyeon’s room. “This is your class. If you need help, just give me a call, okay? My room is underneath yours (though it is on the ground floor). Just remember three doors from the stairs. See you later at lunch!”

    The two childhood friends bid their farewells. As soon as Dahyun left, Jeongyeon faced the hazel door and knocked. A woman, about in her 30’s, greeted Jeongyeon with a smile. 

    There they go again with the gaze. Jeongyeon thought – feeling the discomfort from the gazes in the room. As a girl who isn’t bound to adapt easily, worry and uneasiness crawled like a virus within her system. Jeongyeon wasn’t the type of person who is anxious about her surroundings. She used to be under the spotlight, however, an incident in the past changed her.
