You Are

The stars filled the evening sky like candy sprinkles on top of ice cream. It was a bit chilly, so she pulled the blanket, that wasn't even hers, higher to her shoulders and hugged herself underneath, while her legs were resting on the chair, crossed and tucked behind her knees. She found it difficult to sleep tonight, so she decided to go outside with her tumbler in her hand and opened the sliding door quietly, not wanting to wake anyone with the sound. She gulped water from her tumbler when she felt becoming a bit dry before placing it in the coffee table in front of her.

Taeyeon stared at the night sky and just admired the stars. "They look so pretty." She smiled when she noticed that they were twinkling. The next thing she knows, being the dork that she is, she started singing the first line of Twinkle in a very soft voice before chuckling. "It's been years since TTS debuted as a subunit," she said to herself as she recalled. She would still think that it wasn't long ago, but when she counted the years, she immediately told herself that she was old. As she started to look back, she remembered the first time that she and the girls moved in together. "I'm starting to feel like it's been a millennium," she said to herself with her eyes squinted when she recalled their debut as a girl group.

She remembered all of it. She remembered feeling happy that they finally debuted after all their hard work as trainees. She remembered the black ocean that made their eyes sweat and how they were boycotted in an SMTOWN concert, but they didn't let their tears fall and just gave their best despite the little support that they got. The girls used those events as a fuel to strive harder, and so they did. She remembered the feeling that she, and the rest of the girls, got when things got better as they continued to work hard for their success. The smiles on her members' faces were priceless and for a leader, that was the most valuable thing that she could ever see.

They all strived harder, giving their million percent when it comes to performing until they've reached complete success all because of Gee. Taeyeon smiled at the memory as she closed her eyes. "I was even against that song, but that song gave us the recognition that we were working hard for, two years after we debuted." She covered as she yawned for the first time. Her eyes glistened from yawning while shaking her head with a smile on her face when she recalled how silly it sounded to her ears when she heard it for the first time. Their group's success continued and it was everything that girls hoped for and they were extremely grateful, but it wasn't always an uphill ride. Being in the entertainment industry was a roller coaster ride.

She would never forget how she felt burdened at times. Being a leader wasn't easy. It wasn't just commanding people to go to practices on time, telling them their respective chore in the dorm, nor was it just watching them dance their butts off and call them out when she sees something wrong. She felt very much like a mother who was raising eight children. Whenever something went wrong, she always wished that she could take the sadness that they felt away, just like a real mother. She had to be strong for the girls and for the fans, so she always kept a strong front in front of everyone. Yes, she felt burdened and pressured with her role as the group's leader because of the public eye, most especially when she felt helpless for the eight girls and their fans, and because of that, she blamed herself.

The smile on Taeyeon's face have disappeared. She was staring blankly to the front with her head tilted, then she yawned again before sighing as the coldness outside slowly allowed sleep to arrive. There were times when she felt like she wanted to give up. She would always think of quitting from her position as not just the leader, but also a member, but there was something- someone that stopped her. She will never forget how she shared her sentiments with her fellow leader from another group and he would always tell her to not give up.

"I know that being a leader's difficult. You always feel like you need to be responsible for everything and when you don't get it done, when you feel like you should, you feel worthless. I know it's difficult, but you don't have to quit. You don't need to feel burdened by everything. You can share some of your load. Don't try to carry everything, but most importantly, do the best that you can." As he was speaking to her, he was giving her hand a light squeeze. "You know, we're gonna look back together and smile because we'll be the greatest leaders in the history of leaders. And we'll both say that 'we did a great job.' Don't worry, I'll be here to help you. Always."

Taeyeon let a tear fall from her eye. Her head was resting on his shoulder, while he leaned his head on hers. They were both wearing a hoodie with face masks on to conceal their identity. It was already the middle of the night and it was cold outside, so people really wouldn't go to the park, but it's better to be safe than sorry; most especially now that the rumors of them dating won't just die down. They were still trying to be as careful as possible, with their other members helping them cover up, but the fans were like a hawk, zooming in on every moment and playing it on slow motion. She was worried for him and also for her, the antis scared her and he knew these. She would always push her worries away whenever she would remind herself with his words that would play in her head.

"Don't be scared. We'll go through this together."

She smiled at the memory and without a doubt, it was him who became her rock. She felt like nothing could go wrong as long as he's there. In the entertainment industry, it was difficult to find someone who would understand. Aside from being the leader of their respective groups, another thing that they had in common was their hearts were connected. Yes, it wasn't allowed, but it was only restricted for the public to see. They had to keep it a secret, and so they did, just like the rest of their respective members. The smile on her face once again disappeared as she looked down on the thick blanket. "Then you had to leave for your mandatory military service." Her hand fiddled with the hem of the blanket that was resting on her knees.

She kept a strong front as she waited for him to come back, but during one of her performances, she couldn't help but tear up. She sang on stage flawlessly, like the usual, but the memory of him telling her that he'll be back soon on the night before he left for the army lined her eyes with tears. Despite the tinge of shakiness that was heard as she sang with sadness in her heart, she finished the song without letting a single tear fall. It was difficult for her to sing her own song because it fit her situation perfectly, but she made it through. She was aware that the fans kept leaving her messages online, asking her if she was okay and telling her that they were worried for her. Kim Taeyeon suffered into a complete depression, something that he prevented years before. She would stare blankly at the ceiling and cry silently once all the members were asleep. She usually cries in the shower and when she goes out, no one would suspect a thing. She hates crying in front of everyone, so she would always keep her sadness to herself.

"But there's always light at the end of the tunnel," she said to herself as she curved her lips upward into a thin smile. She was busy with work and it became her perfect distraction. She was happy to do the thing that she loves the most, and she was even happier as she heard the fans' scream and cheer for them while also singing along as their smile reached from ear to ear. What made her even happier was the two years were up and he's finally back from the army.

She yawned before smiling wide as she nodded before looking at the night sky once again. She just remembered the lyrics to one of her songs- a song which she had always sung so beautifully. It was a song that would always make her think of him. That song was for the person who pushed her fears away. That song was for the person who made everything better. It was for the person who made her vulnerable self feel protected. It was for the person who managed to made her heart beat and made her feel butterflies in her stomach. That song was for the person who was, still is, and will always be in her heart. That song was, and will always be for him.

Taeyeon started singing the last chorus softly, but before she could finish it, she felt two hands squeeze her shoulders before those hands pulled the blanket higher. She looked behind her to see it who it was and she was surprised upon seeing that person. Her expression quickly changed to being worried, but a tinge of happiness were still hiding behind her eyes. She grabbed his hands and felt her hands sway to the side when the person sat on the chair beside her without letting go of his hand, and he did the same. "What are you doing here?"

"I should be the one asking you that, you know." He rubbed his eyes before looking at her. Leeteuk kissed the back of her hand before holding it to his cheek and closing his eyes. He suppressed a yawn, which made him look like he was taking a deep breath. He opened his eyes and looked at Taeyeon, who's looking at him. "But of course I don't need to ask you that because I know that you can't sleep. Are you okay?" His sleepy voice had a worried tone.

She smiled at him before nodding. "I just sat here and planned to wait until I'm sleepy, that's all." It became Taeyeon's habit to sit outside in the balcony when she found it difficult to sleep, especially when certain things just keep clouding her mind. Her gaze didn't leave his face, while was closed to yawn. "You followed me out here again. Was I too loud?" She noticed how sleepy he is and it made her worried.

He shook his head before explaining himself. "I felt that I was hugging no one again, so I went here just like all those times before." He will never forget that one time that he found her sleeping in the balcony the next morning in a fetal position while sitting on the chair and he felt really bad. He thought that Taeyeon would be back soon from the bathroom, or it was already morning and she was downstairs preparing breakfast, but she fell into a deep slumber in the balcony and her body found it too difficult to make its way to the bed.

Bringing her free hand to his cheek, she caressed his cheek with her thumb while looking at his black orbs.  She felt so happy by just looking at him, although she did feel a bit sorry that the sleepy man followed her. Again.

"Don't feel sorry." Leeteuk chuckled while looking at her. He held both of her hands and kissed them before pulling her head gently to kiss her forehead. "I've already told you this before. I don't wanna see you sleeping out here in the cold anymore. Let that be a one-time thing, okay?"

Taeyeon need not to say a word. Her husband can always read her and that's just one quality of his that made her heart jump when they were younger. Now that they're a bit older, married, and have a family of their own, that trait of his would still make her heart skip a beat. She smiled as she leaned her head on his shoulder. "And if you still think that it makes you a bad husband when that happened, then forget it." She looked up at him and saw that he has a pout on his face.

Just like him, she could read his thoughts too. They were good at this before, but marriage definitely made them become better at being each other's psychics. He would still feel guilty whenever Taeyeon would go outside, so ever since then, he would stand up whenever he felt that he was no longer hugging his wife.

She chuckled before squeezing his cheeks and patting them softly after doing so. "My eldest child, you are still cute." Just like any other mom, she considers her husband her eldest.

Leeteuk cupped her face before kissing her nose. "But we all know that you're the cutest." The sight of his Taeyeon giggling will always be a delight for him. He wrapped his arm around his shoulder and held her close to him before he felt her head resting on top of his shoulder.

Taeyeon pulled the dangling part of the Winnie the Pooh blanket that belonged to their youngest daughter on her husband to cover him from the cold air. She was holding it while her arm rested on his chest and her hand was holding on to his arm. They hugged each other outside as they stayed for a few more minutes. No one said a word as they both looked at the night sky.

He kept running his fingers through her hair as he looked at the stars with her. He knows that she's already feeling sleepy, but he didn't force her to go inside. He would always wait for Taeyeon to say that she wants to go inside, or just wait until she falls asleep in his arms before carrying her to their bed.

"You know, while I was sitting out here, I suddenly thought of the past," she said, breaking the silence between them. "Those stars reminded me of Twinkle, and I just remembered everything." She took a deep breath before her lips curved up into a thin smile.

He kissed her hair for a couple of seconds before kissing her temple. He knew how hard it was for her in the past. He would always remind her to not give up and he would let her cry on her shoulder, though she hates crying in front of everyone.

"You were right, you know." She smiled as she looked up at him.

He looked at her and found her looking at him. His black orbs met with her brown ones. "It feels good to look back and say that you're one of the greatest leaders in history, right? And the great thing about that's you're actually still really far from the finish line." He smiled proudly at her and that smile soon disappeared when she shook shook her head while smiling. "No?" He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion before raising one.

"No, it's not that." She still looked at him with a smile and with that expression of his, she couldn't help but laugh at her dorky husband. "You were right when you said that we'll go through everything together." She smiled before resting her head on his shoulder to look at the night sky.

"I always keep my word, Taeng." He was smiling while looking at her looking at the stars. He hugged her tight to keep her warm, though it wasn't even extremely cold. He kissed her hair once again and inhaled the sweet scent of her shampoo.

Taeyeon yawned once again and her eyelids were slowly becoming heavy. She blinked the tears  that were brought by her yawn away and still looked at the stars.

"Oh, right. Sorry I suddenly showed up."

She was swift to turn her head to face him. Her eyebrows met in confusion because of his apology. "Why?"

"Because you weren't able to finish your song." With that, he raised his two fingers to smoothen her eyebrows.

She saw the guilt on his face and found it cute. She shook her head while smiling wide. "Actually, you were just in time for the remaining lines." She shifted her position to sit upright and held his face in both of her hands. "You're my star," she started to sing in a sweet voice. She removed her hands from his face and held his hands. "Yeah, you are," she ended the song beautifully, as always, before smiling at him.

He swallowed the small lump that was starting to form in his throat to prevent himself from crying. This is not the first time that he heard that song. When her album came out, he has listened to it countless times. He went secretly to her solo concert, watching her from the screen backstage and when it was time for her to sing that song, he moved to the side of the stage. On their first wedding anniversary, Taeyeon gave him a letter, telling him that the song was actually for him. Deep inside, he already knew that it is, but of course he still hoped that it really was for him. Before the day ended on their first wedding anniversary, he pulled her to sit beside her as he played the piano and sang the song that was written for him for his wife. Leeteuk also had a hard time, especially while he was growing up because of his family and Taeyeon just made his world so perfect, adding color to the life that he once hated because of feeling unlucky for his fate. After singing for her, he tearfully told her how lucky he is to have her in his life and thanked her, and because of that, he witnessed how his wife bursted into tears for the first time. Their first wedding anniversary was memorable as they ended it while holding each other and crying on each other's arms.

His eyes were a bit glassy because the song never failed to touch his heart. He smiled at her before pulling her closer to him and leaning his head to kiss her on the lips, which she gladly responded to. The kiss wasn't passionate, but it was sweet and it was full of love. She broke the kiss and smiled at her husband, and he smiled back. He cupped her face and stole another kiss from her. "I love you so much, Kim Taeyeon." With that, he gave his wife another kiss.

"I know that, Park Jungsu. I love you, too." She leaned in for another kiss, and he kissed her back. She pulled away and rested her forehead against his, looking at each other's eyes that showed sleepiness, but their happiness couldn't be contained. They were smiling at each other, and before she could even blink, her husband stole another kiss before finally pulling away with a cheeky smile on his face as he looked at the stars.

She chuckled while looking at him before speaking in a hushed tone. "What a dork," she shook her head before smiling and leaning her head sideways towards his arm to use it as a pillow. She looked at the night sky as she yawned before smiling sleepily.

Leeteuk felt her head gradually becoming heavy. He is just waiting for her to say that she wants to go back in, or just let her fall asleep and carry her to the bed. He kissed her hair and leaned his head on hers, then he intertwined his fingers with hers, while his other hand was her hair.

As she was looking at the stars, Taeyeon could only think of one thing; she was so fortunate for having him in her life. She couldn't see herself being with anyone else than him. Being married to him's a big blessing for her. Her eyelids were slowly drooping, but her smile is still visible on her face. He's not just her star who made her world technicolor, but he's a star who shined brightly in her night sky.
