The choice was never ours

Red String Of Fate

"Mingyu, why can't you just stay?"

"Umma needs me. I'll make it up to you tomorrow."

Jeonghan groaned.

"But-"

"Will you just leave, Mingyu?!"

Mingyu scratched his nape while Wonwoo glared at Jeonghan.

"Hyung, don't be bitter! Like seriously, find-"

"Please just leave me!" Jeonghan covered his eyes.

"I should go. Bye." Mingyu chuckled then kissed Wonwoo's forehead before leaving.

"Now, seriously. I just wanted to spend time with my boy-"

"Wonwoo, you spend all your time with him, sheesh."

"You just haven't found your soulmate." Wonwoo stuck his tongue out.

"I will and when that ha-"

Jeonghan suddenly looked at his pinky that tingled.

"W-Wonwoo..."

"Hyung..." Wonwoo's eyes widen.

The two both stood up and looked around.

Seungkwan ran to them.

"Sorry I was late. Hansol was trying to push me b- What are you two doing?" Seungkwan raised an eyebrow.

"My pinky tingled!"

"What?! Omo, why in the park?!" Seungkwan whined.

"Fate hates me anyway." Jeonghan pouted.

Jeonghan eyes landed on the guy in front of the ice cream bike. (AN: I don't really know what it's called)

Jeonghan felt his pinky tingle more and he thinks.

This guy's the one.

So slowly, Jeonghan neared the guy and when he was next to him, his pinky showed the red string.

The red string can only be seen by the owner so it was only Jeonghan who could see his own string.

He must be it!

"Umm, hello."

The guy looked shocked but quickly bowed.

"My name's Jeonghan. Yoon Jeonghan."

"I'm Hong Jisoo. But call me Joshua." The guy named Joshua smiled.

As soon as their hands touched, Jeonghan squealed inside.

Finally!

"Want some ice cream?"

"Sure." Jeonghan blushed.

"One more ice cream please."

The ice cream man smiled as he handed over another ice cream.

Joshua and Jeonghan talked all day but not once did Jeonghan mention about the red string.

Maybe Joshua knows.

That's why at the end of the day, the two exchanged numbers.

Jeonghan squealed as he talked to his friends.

"So what did you two do?! Like you left us just for that lover boy!"

"He's so nice and caring. Like maybe fate isn't so bad after all." Jeonghan blushed.

"Aigoo. Where has he been all your life?" Wonwoo elbowed Jeonghan.

"He said he lived in America for almost all of his life and moved here 3 years ago." Jeonghan shrugged.

"Did you tell him yet?"

"Do I need too? I mean he might've noticed his red string already." Jeonghan smirked.

The two friends nodded.

But that didn't last long.

Because on their second meeting, they were at the park again.

"Joshua, is your red string as beautiful as mine?"

"Eh? I haven't seen mine yet." Joshua shrugged.

"What?" Jeonghan's eyes widen.

"I haven't found my soulmate yet." Joshua pouted.

Jeonghan froze as he looked at his pinky.

The red string was visible.

It can't be!

"B-But... are you sure?"

"Mhm. Are you okay, Jeonghan?"

"I-I have to go." Jeonghan ran away.

It was embarrassing and heartbreaking at the same time.

That night, Jeonghan cried out to his friends.

"You should've asked him first. You assmumed too fast." Wonwoo hugged Jeonghan.

"I thought he was the one! When I was next to him, the red string appeared! What else would I think?" Jeonghan wailed.

"Aigoo, let's go out."

"Where?"

"Clubbing or whatever. To take Jeonghan hyung's mind out of his soulmate." Seungkwan sighed.

"You do know you're still underaged, right?" Wonwoo squinted his eyes at Seungkwan.

"Not that kind of bar, hyung." Seungkwan rolled his eyes.

"Don't tell me we're going to Hansol's place." Jeonghan whined.

"Why? It's stylish there! And it's free!" Seungkwan pouted.

"Fine, let's just leave." Wonwoo sighed.

At Hansol's party, it was so crowded.

"How many people does Hansol know?"

"Less than a thousand, maybe." Seungkwan chuckled.

"Seungkwan!"

Seungkwan grinned as he was pulled into a hug by none other than his boyfriend, Hansol.

"Hi. Sorry I came just now. Best friend duties."

"It's okay! Are you okay now, Jeonghan hyung?"

Jeonghan just shrugged.

"Well, hyung. Enjoy the party." Hansol smirked before pulling Seungkwan away.

"Seriously, Hansol is such a clingy boyfriend."

"Where's your boyfriend, Wonwoo?"

"Sick." Wonwoo sighed.

"Why don't you take care of him?"

"Mingyu and omonim advised me not to come because the sickness is quite contagious."

"Good thing you actually followed what Mingyu says."

"Yah, what's that supposed to mean?!"

"Nothing. Let's just go find a spot."

Soon, Wonwoo was wasted.

"Wonwoo, why did you drink too much?" Jeonghan hissed.

"Because I'm thirsty!" Wonwoo stuck his tongue out.

"I'm so dead if Mingyu finds out what's happe-"

"Hyung, I feel like puking."

"What?!"

Wonwoo covered his mouth.

"Omo, let's go to the comfort room!"

Jeonghan and Wonwoo was trying so hard to pass through the crowd when Jeonghan's wallet fell down.

Jeonghan bent to pick it up when his red string appeared again at the exact time a man took his wallet.

Unlike Joshua, this guy doesn't look much like a korean.

Was he also at the park?

"Hyung, let's go. Hurry!"

Jeonghan was out of the trance as he bowed to the guy and went with Wonwoo to the comfort room.

While Wonwoo was puking, Jeonghan couldn't get the guy out of his mind.

"He should be it... I knew I saw his face at the park. He just wasn't that near..."

"What are you talking about?" Wonwoo wiped the remaining puke he has on his face.

"The red string on my pinky showed up again." Jeonghan bit his lip.

"Already?!"

Jeonghan nodded with bitten lip.

"Is fate joking?" Wonwoo scoffed.

"I don't know, Wonwoo. I don't know..." Jeonghan sighed.

Jeonghan and Wonwoo left the comfort room, and there the guy stood.

"You left this too."

Jeonghan's pink handkerchief was on the guy's palm.

Jeonghan blushed as his hands slightly touched the guy's hand as he took his handkerchief.

"T-Thanks."

Wonwoo huffed. Was Jeonghan seriously going to fall for this guy too?

"Umm, is your friend okay now?"

"Yeah..."

"Oh, I'm sorry. I'm Jun." The guy named Jun bowed down.

"Oh, hi Jun. I'm Jeonghan." Jeonghan bowed back.

"And I'm Wonwoo and we have to go." Wonwoo pulled Jeonghan away.

The two friends ended up seated at the pool.

"What's wrong?" Jeonghan whined.

"You. What the heck, hyung? Do you actually remember why we're here? To make you forget about your soulmate. Like umm, you just got heartbroken hours ago and now you're acting like a lovestruck person?"

"But what if-"

"Jeonghan hyung, wake up!" Wonwoo shook Jeonghan's shoulders.

"That's easy for you to say!" Jeonghan stood up.

"Hyung..."

"You have Mingyu! Seungkwan has Hansol! You two are actually assured that you won't grow old alone! What about me? I'm already in my 20's! Some teenagers already found theirs and here I am, mopping on my own! I feel so alone, Wonwoo. Even if the two of you are there for me, let's be honest that we will go our separate ways someday. And I don't want to do that alone. I want to live my life with my soulmate..." Jeonghan's tears fell.

"Hyung..." Wonwoo was about to stand up when Jeonghan ran away from him.

Jeonghan wasn't looking where he's going that he bumped into someone.

"I-I'm sorry." Jeonghan bowed.

"It's okay." The guy smiled as he patted Jeonghan's head.

Jeonghan walked away when he felt his pinky tingled again.

"Please stop playing with me."

At a couch, Jeonghan was watching a match along with other strangers.

"That guy could've shoot it before the time stopped! He's too slow!"

Jeonghan's heart skipped a beat when suddenly he heard that voice.

It was Jun.

Jeonghan's pinky tingled.

Jun sat next to Jeonghan which made Jeonghan squeeze himself to a guy next to him to make more room for Jun.

"Why are you alone?" Jun frowned.

"My friend and I fought, I guess." Jeonghan scratched his nape.

"But he was pale awhile ago." Jun chuckled.

"Yeah. So Jun, you don't look korean in some angles..."

"Yeah, I'm Chinese." Jun laughed.

"Oh. But you're quite good in Hangul." Jeonghan elbowed Jun.

"Well, thanks."

Jeonghan glanced at his pinky and the red string was still there.

Soon, Jun offered to walk Jeonghan when the latter couldn't find his friends any longer.

"I had fun, Jun. Thanks." Jeonghan blushed.

"Sure. Glad to help."

Jeonghan suddenly kissed Jun's cheek which made the latter shocked.

"J-Jeonghan..." Jun's eyes widen.

"You're my soulmate, Jun."

"I-I... It can't be."

"W-What?" Jeonghan looked at his pinky and saw nothing.

Jun isn't his soulmate.

"I'm taken, Jeonghan. I already found mine."

"I'm sorry!" Jeonghan bowed 90 degrees.

"Jeong-"

"I'm so sorry!" Jeonghan ran away.

The next few days, Jeonghan locked himself in his room eating ice cream and watching dramas.

It was Jeonghan's only comfort.

Seungkwan knocked on his door but Jeonghan didn't budge.

"Yah, I will break this door if you don't open this, Yoon Jeonghan! Don't even try and dare me!"

Jeonghan sulkily opened the door and glared at Seungkwan.

"It's hyung to you."

"Hi, hyung." Seungkwan went passed Jeonghan and sat on the sofa.

"What are you doing here?" Jeonghan sat down next to Seungkwan.

"You wouldn't answer our calls and wouldn't even let Wonwoo come in here. I thought it's time I take matters in my own hands." Seungkwan sighed.

"I'm just-"

"What? Heartbroken? I actually saw you that night."

"W-What?"

"You kissed the chinese guy's cheek. Thought he was your soulmate again, didn't you?"

Jeonghan sighed as he nodded.

"Hyung, I know you feel lonely but this isn't the right thing to do. If you feel lonely, do things that could make you forget you're alone. You don't need to feel it. You need to get used to it. There will always be a time where you'll be alone. Even if you find your soulmate, hyung. Don't look for him. Let fate put you together." Seungkwan hugged Jeonghan.

Jeonghan smiled as he tightened their hug.

The next day, Jeonghan went to the park again.

The park where everything started.

His first pinky tingle.

First crush.

First heartbreak even.

And this is where he happened to become crazily looking for his soulmate.

Jeonghan felt his pinky tingle again.

"Stop, please." Jeonghan sighed as he closed his eyes.

Not again.

"Want some ice cream?" A guy showed Jeonghan an ice cream.

It was the ice cream man.

"Thanks." Jeonghan reached out to get the ice cream when he noticed his pinky...

It has a red string on it.

Jeonghan looked around.

The park was still empty. It was only 5 am.

That means...

"Umm, excuse me."

"Yes?"

"I've seen you a couple of times before. But I still wasn't able to get your name sadly." The guy bit his lip.

"What do you-"

Jeonghan then remembered.

This guy was the ice cream man in front of Joshua.

Jeonghan's red string appeared.

This guy was the one next to them on their second meeting.

Jeonghan's red string was there.

This guy was the guy next to Jun when Jeonghan bumped into the latter and he was actually the first one to bend down to get the wallet when Jun beat him to it.

Jeonghan's red string was visible.

This guy was the one he bumped into when he walked away from Wonwoo.

Jeonghan's red string was obvious but somehow, Jeonghan didn't took a glimpse at it.

This guy was the one next to Jeonghan who he squeezed himself just to make space for Jun.

Jeonghan's red string was evident.

This guy... is the only guy in the park at the moment.

Jeonghan's red string is unmistakable.

"My name's Jeonghan..."

"Hello."

"C-Can I ask you something?"

"Umm, sure. Make it quick though. I have somewhere else to go." The guy smiled apologetically.

"Is... Is your red string visible?"

The guy looked at his own pinky and smiled.

Soon, the guy looked at Jeonghan again with the same smile and Jeonghan felt himself melting.

This guy looks so handsome and cute at the same time.

"I thought you'd never ask."

"O-Omo..." Jeonghan covered his mouth.

"I was about to ask you about your red string but then you looked so lovestruck at that other guy so I thought he was your soulmate. Then I saw you again, looking sad. My red string was seen again and I was about to get your wallet when you looked at my friend, Jun so amazed. So I thought, maybe he's your soulmate because he was also at the park." The guy scratched his nape.

"I-I... I'm sorry I didn't notice you." Jeonghan sighed.

"Don't be. I'm actually the one who feels sorry. You had to face two rejections."

Jeonghan felt so happy. This is his soulmate.

THE REAL ONE.

"So I have to go... Let's meet tommorow?"

"Sure." Jeonghan blushed.

"Can I get a kiss from my soulmate?" The guy pointed to his cheek.

Jeonghan leaned to kiss the guy's cheek when the latter suddenly turned his head which made them kiss.

"Yah!" Jeonghan blushed.

"Why? We're fated anyway." The guy stuck his tongue out.

"You're taking it too fast!"

"We're already 21, Jeonghan." The guy turned around and walked away.

"Wait, I didn't get your name!"

The guy turned around and smiled at Jeonghan.

"My name's Choi Seungcheol. Nice to meet you." The guy named Seungcheol blowed a flying kiss in which Jeonghan caught and walked away again.

"Seungcheol... I guess I wasn't well matched with people whose name starts with J..." Jeonghan mumbled with a blush.

Jeonghan can't wait to tell his friends.
