Prologue

A Pres For The Tyrant

TWICE - TT

The sound of a ball bumping on the ground repeatedly echoed around the whole court. The sound of shoes squeaking on the floor as the running footsteps turns to speed. The sweats that crawled on every player’s body became visible as it showed too obvious on their soaked jersey which seemed like they just came out of the rain. Skillful movements were performed in the court as they shout at one another from time to time before passing the ball to their own team mates.

A boy with dark brown hair wearing a red jersey and a baseball cap covering half of his face, sat on the bench outside of the court as he observes the other players practicing basketball. He sighed as his lips turned into a pout, swinging his legs like a kid.

Being the youngest does give him quite disadvantages in the team, like; only becoming a backup player. Well, it’s not like he could complain nor whine over it to the coach. It wasn’t easy for him to get into the team from the start anyways since it’s his first year in high school, like what his favorite hyung always say;

Patience, hardships and hard work are always the key to being the best!

Speaking about his favorite hyung- as if it was on cue, his coach suddenly appeared right next to him with a depressing irritated look.

“Hey, kid! Have you seen, B.I?”

The youngster tilted his head up as he struggled with his baseball cap to look at his coach, he shrugged and shook his head, “No, sir!”

The coach looked away from him and watched the court, taking his cap off as he messes with his hair in a frustrated manner before putting it back on again.

“That rascal! Always late for practice! I swear that one day I will-“ Before he could curse out in front of the confused youngster, he halted in surprise when one of the team’s player was on the ground, clutching on to his knee as he cried out in pain.

“Yah, yah! What’s going on?! You, over there! Help him up and take him out of the court!” He ordered, pointing randomly to the boys. While one of the boys help the injured player out of the court, everyone went back to their positions since practice was still not over.

He closed his eyes and pinched the upper bridge of his nose, “Alright, Jung Chanwoo! That’s your cu-“

When he turned and was about to look at Chanwoo, he found him missing and there was only a baseball cap left on the bench. He swiftly move his head back to the court as he saw the boy running into the court and getting into his position.

He chuckled and shook his head, “That little rascal…”

The sound of his watch ticking as he observes the time while constantly tapping his shoe on the ground, they were all standing in front of the gates and waiting for instructions from the vice president who was given the power by their president to look over the students who failed; to be in school on time. Goo Junhoe, their vice president, was counting the time while waiting for someone which they all already predicted who the obvious person they were waiting for and the cause of their time being wasted.

“2 minutes left.”

Not giving a single damn even after knowing that he was late for school (only 2 minutes left), Kim Hanbin still walked leisurely as if he wasn’t even late and like he owned the rules. With hands in the pockets of his pants, his hair parted messily and the tie around his collar hanging loose- Goo Junhoe knew right away that the person they’ve been waiting for has finally appeared. He was just a few meters away from the gates which he could reach in only a minute and a half but adding up the leisure of his steps, he’ll probably reach the gates in two minutes and a half.

But does Hanbin care?

Hell no he doesn’t.

“Uh- Junhoe…” He glared to the person who dared call him by his name and disturbed his time counting which made the person flustered, “I-I mean… vice pres!”

Junhoe rolled his eyes and coldly answered him, “What?”

“S-since he already arrived. Can we all go back to our classes now?” He asked nervously.

Noticing the nervousness in the boy’s voice, Junhoe smirked which made the nervous boy gulped, “Jung Hoseok, you are making me wonder why the hell did the president chose you as one of the student council. So, before I start questioning even more, shut up and stop whining.”

The boy gulped nervously again before Junhoe threw his glares at the other student councils which had cause them to shudder, “And that also directs to all of you too.”

Soon enough Hanbin reached near the gates, yawning as he was about to make his way into the school territory until someone stopped him in his track. He looked up and face the person who was standing in front of him. The smirk on his face annoyed the hell out of Hanbin but he had to control himself and hold his fists before it starts flying on someone’s face.

Let’s not create any chaos early in the morning.

“Late again, B.I?”

“Like wise, vice pres.” He tilted his head, hands still in his pockets.

The smirk still hadn’t left Junhoe’s face while Hanbin stood permanent with his stoic face as they both stared at each other intensely. The other student councils who were witnessing the scene could have sworn they saw imaginary daggers flying around between the two.

Hoseok gulped as one of the council’s nudged him to the front right after he noted down something in a big red book that had the title; “Book of Late Attendance Record”. Slowly he stepped next to Junhoe and hesitated to call him.

Junhoe felt something poking the side of his arm, he whipped his head and glared at the person before half-shouting; “What?!”

“I-I’ve already note d-down his name i-in the record book,” Hoseok stuttered, covering his face with the big book because of fear to look at his vice pres but unfortunately, Junhoe took it right away only to reveal a nervous Hoseok with his eyes shut tightly as if he was gonna get eaten by a wild beast or something.

Hanbin couldn’t help but roll his eyes at how nervous that kid is.

Junhoe’s eyes scan the whole book, he shook his head and clicked his tongue. While he scan the whole book, Hanbin only observe the whole situation boringly.

He’s wasting my time.

“From the beginning of your first year in high school until senior year. The late attendance record never seem to be clean without your name on it.” He glanced at him with a brow raised in a mocking way.

Hanbin shrugged, “So?”

Junhoe’s knuckles cracked as he gripped his fingers tighter on the book, his eyes turned cold as he shuts it. Shoving it back to Hoseok on his chest with a thud. The poor boy could only scowl in pain, soon he could feel a hand patting his shoulder. He looked up to Junhoe who was staring coldly at Hanbin and said something in between his gritted teeth, “Fix his uniform.”

Hoseok’s eyes turned wide as saucers, “B-but…”

“What are you waiting for?” He glared at the poor latter, his voice sounded dangerous as if it had an inner meaning; Do it or I’ll kill you with my own bare hands.

Hoseok gulped.

Feeling annoyed at Hoseok who still hadn’t move an inch, Junhoe gave him a slight push causing him to stumble forward. Finally getting himself balanced again, he took a deep breath and he stepped to the front slowly. The closer he gets to Hanbin, the more it felt like he was closer to his death.

When he finally stood close in front of Hanbin who had his eyes locked on Junhoe and arms crossed. He hesitantly moved his hand closer to his tie, aiming to correct it. Before he could even reach it, Hanbin took hold of his hand.

“Don’t-” In a swift movement, Hanbin pulled his wrist to his back, making Hoseok to bend down. That was it, his death.

“…even think about it.”

With one last move, he pushed him to the front causing the pity boy to bump into Junhoe who had his eyes wide open. His temper reaching its limit. How dare he messes with one of the student councils?!

The school bell rang, signaling that it was time for the first class and Hanbin’s cue to finally leave the crowd of Junhoe and his minions.

“The bell rang. So, I should be excused before I get late for class too, vice president.” With that, Hanbin walked towards the school territory and not missing a single chance to bump his shoulders with Junhoe before entering the building.

When he finally left their sight, Junhoe pushed the poor Hoseok who ends up facing the ground and groaned in frustration, kicking the air, “That punk!”

Hanbin walked down the halls, heading to his locker to pick up a few books for his first and second class period. When he finally reached his locker, he started packing his things and checking his timetable from time to time.

The hall was quiet, all the students had probably went for their classes which turns the hall into an echoable cave.

Just as he shuts his locker close, the school bell rang again a bit too early for his liking. The hall that was once quiet like a cave suddenly turns packed full of students.

“BI!” His eyes travelled to the two boys that made their way to him.

“Yo, BI!” His friend with bunny teeth and eyes nearly invisible, greeted him with his hand raised for a high-five as a friendly gesture. Hanbin rolled his eyes before slapping it away. “Ouch, bro! Why so cranky in the morning?”

He ignored his question and asked him with a serious tone, “Why is class over early?”

The other guy with light brown hair shook his head, “Class hasn’t started yet. We had to take our attendance in the homeroom for the half hour before going for classes. Which you would know if you didn’t countlessly skip classes all the time.”

Hanbin glared at him, sensing the hint of sarcasm from his words but he didn’t care much, they were his friends and he wouldn’t mind their stupid jokes.

“Whatever,” He shrugged receiving a chuckle from the boy.

“Speaking about attendance, me and Yunhyeong had yours covered.”

Hanbin raised a brow at his bunny teeth friend before noticing Yunhyeong rolling his eyes. “Bobby… you didn’t-“

“He didn’t. I did” Yunhyeong cut him off before adding more, “…well, not willingly.”

With a sly grin, Bobby locked his arm around Hanbin’s neck and leaned one hand on his hip.

“So, the whole thing went like this…”

Flashback; Homeroom.

“Come on, Yunhyeong! It’s not that hard.”

“Why don’t you do it then?” Yunhyeong asked irritated, Bobby wouldn’t stop pestering him to do it ever since their homeroom teacher walked in.

“Oh Hayoung.”

Here!

Mr. Hee was doing the daily attendance like usual and unfortunately, one of his student was not present. Who else would it be if it’s not the rebellious, Hanbin. But Mr. Hee wouldn’t realize, the old lad was nearing his late 70’s and his eyes were growing old. His glasses couldn’t help much either.

“Jeon Jungkook.”

Here!

“Because-” He held his breath for a second and rolled his eyes, “…you’re the only one who’s good at imitating B.I.”

Yunhyeong sighed again, “Just because Mr. Hee is old and doesn’t have good eyesight doesn’t mean he’s dumb to not recognize-“

“Kim Hanbin.”

Without a warning and not letting him finish his sentence, Bobby slapped Yunhyeong on the back which had caused him to yelp and blurt out loud in a different voice but a bit high pitched than Hanbin’s real voice.

“Here, sir!”

Bobby clasped a hand on his lips, holding back his laughter but failed and ends up snickering silently.

Mr. Hee made a short reaction, his eyebrows raised high as he stared down at Hanbin’s name on the attendance list.

“Well-“He stopped with a visible impressed tone, “…you sound very excited today, Hanbin?”

That was it. That was the last straw to bring Bobby down into fits of laughter and tears running down his face, uncontrollably.

Yunhyeong let out a sarcastic laugh, not losing a chance to glare at the miserable laughing Bobby next to him, “Yeah…”

Mr. Hee’s attention then turned to the back of the class, an eyebrow raised in a very creepy way.

“What’s so funny, Mister Jiwon?”

Hanbin’s jaw dropped.

He cannot believe what he had just heard.

While Yunhyeong felt embarrassed with his palm covering his whole face, Bobby wouldn’t stop laughing uncontrollably again.

“Y-you… should have seen h-him do it… i-it’s even funnier than Junhoe’s f-frustrated face when he wasn’t chosen a-as… president.” The lunatic looking Bobby struggled to say in between his fit of laughter.

“You guys are so… embarrassing.” Hanbin confessed bluntly, looking at both of them judgingly.

“Hey! It wasn’t my idea. It was all Bobby’s.” Yunhyeong gapped, pointing a finger at the Bobby who wanted to say something as well but couldn’t.

“OH MY GOD! I NEED CPR! CALL THE AMBULANCE!!”

The other students around were looking at them as if they were a bunch of lunatics but they looked away when they saw Hanbin glaring at every single one of them.

Yunhyeong on the other hand couldn’t handle it and slapped the back of Bobby’s head, “Snap out of it!”

Bobby whined as they both ended up having a quarrel.

Hanbin shook his head and not wanting to handle the both of them anymore, he grabbed his stuffs and left them both shouting at each other in the hall way.

There was never no work that’s need to be done in the quarantine room of the school counselors, especially for the school president. But, Park Soomi knew about the consequences and the everyday none stop paper works that a school president must accomplish as their responsibility. Not only just that, she also has to deal with immature students in the school that never gets bored of creating troubles and making her job more piled up.

Cracking her knuckles and her neck side to side, Soomi heaved a long sigh. Satisfied with the paper works she had completed for the last half an hour.

“Wow, pres! All done before the first class starts, I’m truly amazed! But, not literally, since you are the incredible president this school has.” Yeri, one of her crew who secretly acts like Soomi’s personal assistant.

She shrugged, “Just had to get this done before school period ends. Plus, the principal reminded me that he needed this before tomorrow afternoon and from what I recall, we have a student council meeting during tomorrow. Also, I’ll have to leave school a bit early today for a little meeting I have with Haedong High’s school president. All of the reasons to have them all done today.”

Yeri looked at her amazed as Soomi walked around the room to get the copies of the paper works done for. She had always admired her since the first day she entered the school as a first year when Soomi made a speech as greetings on the coronation day. When she heard about the school council looking for more new members with potential and skill, she was the first one to register from the first year students and honestly she was the only one from her age who was willing to join as a member and even get passed to be one.

It would have been a record, not when Soomi was the first one to beat her to it. Frankly, it made Yeri even more of a fan of her.

“That’s a lot you have to handle! Do remember to spare time to rest, pres!” The worriedness was obvious in Yeri’s tone as she cheered on to her with comforting words.

Soomi could only nod more than twice and waved her hand at the girl to ease her worries, “Alright, alright. I will.”

From her respond, Yeri couldn’t help but smile before heaving a sigh of admiration at her number 1 idol.

The gaze Yeri had on Soomi could probably dig holes on her face, “Didn’t you say you have to be in class before the ring bells?”

“Oh!” Yeri jumped out of her desk and grabbed hold of her bag from the ground, “I almost forgot! Thanks a lot for reminding me, pres!”

Soomi watched as the youngster made her way to the door and not forgetting to wave at her with her usual bright cheerful smile and screaming, “HAVE A NICE DAY, PRES!”

She waved back at her before the door shut closed and left her all alone in the room.

Escaping one last sigh, Soomi looked back at the still need to be done paper works before giving a glance at her wristwatch.

“Class is about to start soon, I should finish two more paper works and then head to class.”

Cracking her knuckles and neck, she wasted no more time and start working on the papers.

Not even five minutes later, the door suddenly slammed open revealing a boy covered in sweats and panting as if he had ran all the way to the room.

“President! There’s a fight going on in the first year class!”

This was the president’s job whether its paper works, helping out the teachers or handling ridiculous fights of the immature students. Soomi had already gotten used to it all.
