Breaking up with his girlfriend was not in Jeon Jungkook’s life plan.
He already planned where he would take her this Valentine’s Day and was even thinking of making early reservations. He had planned a future of himself buying an apartment and living in it together with her. He planned a lot of things in his mind and all of those consisted of Jungkook (finally successful and owns his own company), a pet cat (just because) and Sana.
But after Sana called him, asked him to meet up and then casually tells him that she’s breaking up with him, the first thought that popped in Jungkook’s head was not the fact that the love of his life just left him hanging. But instead, what he thought was ‘thank I didn’t do that early reservation’.
That was when he realized that maybe he was more in love with the thought of being in love with someone than the actual Sana. Jungkook realized that though he actually cared for his girlfriend, he never really considered her feelings in all his plans. Does Sana even like cats? Jungkook doesn’t even know. He will never know.
The catch though, is that his friends are clueless about that fact. The minute they heard that Jungkook is now single, they dragged him to the nearest club ‘to forget and get laid’. Namjoon was even feeling too much pity to buy him a couple of drinks and he never does that. That cheap . Yoongi who came but isn’t drinking anything (“I will ing drive us home don’t make me drink, Namjoon”) sat beside him by the bar, doing something with his phone. Maybe texting his mystery boyfriend? Jungkook didn’t ask.
Namjoon wraps his arm around Jungkook’s neck and pulls him away from the bar, “Socialize, Almighty Jeon. Don’t mope around.”
Jungkook wanted to tell him that no, he wasn’t moping around. He just hates being touched and grabbed by strangers who’s too drunk to hear his rejection. But in the end, Jungkook sighs and nods because maybe he does need this.
“Don’t wait up for me then. I’m not going home tonight.”
Namjoon grins at him then turns his back at him to maybe tell Yoongi about it.

-

Jungkook makes his way towards the dance floor. He stood there for a full minute, awkwardly standing and looking around at first. He was nervous as and his head was filled with ‘You’re going to die, Jungkook. You’re not used to this oh ing crap’ when someone (please don’t let the stranger be an old woman) grabs his arm and starts dancing in front of (cough grinding cough) him. The place they were in was dark, so no. Jungkook still doesn’t know who the this person is (he’s sure he’s a guy though because of the flat chest or if not then he’s a complete ) but maybe he’s already drunk by the drinks Namjoon bought him because the next thing he knew, he was being pulled into a drunk and messy make out session. Minutes later, he was dragged inside a cab. The car was dark enough for Jungkook to see only the guy’s mouth and hell it was pretty. He sees him smirk and he couldn’t help but feel a little nervous because he’s not used to this – hooking up is not Jungkook’s thing. He’s all about relationships and future planning, not one night stands and casual ing.
The cab stops and Jungkook thinks the guy already paid the fare since he’s already being dragged out and pulled inside an apartment complex. His sight was a little blurry but he’s sure he could see the burning red hair on his head. Jungkook blinks several times to clear his vision and when it did, he couldn’t help but curse.
Because damn, this guy’s not some old creep but instead a young man about his age and a very pretty one at that. He was leaning on the other side of the elevator, tapping his foot impatiently and looking at anywhere except Jungkook. He’s tall, about Jungkook’s height but maybe a few centimetres shorter. His hair’s dyed bright red for a reason Jungkook doesn’t know (maybe he’ll find out later) but he’s actually pulling it off and his face, damn his face is so pretty Jungkook can’t even–
The elevator stops and once again, Jungkook found himself being pulled. The pretty guy unlocks his door and pulls him inside. That’s when Jungkook finally had enough of being dragged and hauled by this pretty person. So he pushes him to the nearest wall and kisses him senseless until they were both gasping for air.
“No no no, not here not here,” Jungkook hears him say (oh god his voice is deep) and he sees him point towards the door to his left, “My room, not here. My roommate will kill me.”
And so Jungkook found himself a minute later inside a very foreign room with a very foreign guy just underneath him, flushed and panting but still beautiful, when suddenly the image of Sana’s smiling face crossed his mind. He breaks apart from the guy’s grip and almost stumbles backward.
Jeon Jungkook how could you do this she just broke up with you five hours ago what the
Jungkook sees the flash of concern in the stranger’s eyes and he bites his lip in both embarrassment and anxiety. He opens his mouth to apologize but he was beaten to it, “Are you alright? You looked like you just saw a ghost and I know I’m nowhere near being one.”
He stands up and walks towards Jungkook, and the latter wanted to apologize and leave immediately because he can’t do this, not yet.
“You know if you don’t want to do this it’s fine with me. It’s not like I’m forcing you or anything,” the pretty stranger smiles and Jungkook mentally gasps at his beauty (you’re so damn cheesy Jeon).
He pats Jungkook’s back, “You seem troubled and I’ve always been a great listener. Care to tell?”
Jungkook only blinks at him, “Ah right! Damn I forgot to introduce myself. Name’s Kim Taehyung. You?”
Kim Taehyung. It suits him.
The stranger – Taehyung – snaps his fingers at Jungkook’s face and smiles again, “Name?”
“Ah, Jeon Jungkook,” Taehyung nods and tilts his head as if telling him to go on. But should he really tell him anything? He’s just someone he met and almost had with. But there’s also a little chance of meeting him again so maybe there’s really no harm in telling him anything.
And Jungkook did.

They spent hours talking, well Jungkook mostly did the talking while Taehyung listened. He sometimes leaves comments but other than that he listened to all of Jungkook’s concerns. He tells Jungkook “Don’t worry Kookie, you’re not an ,” before falling to his bed and starts snoring quietly.
Jungkook smiles at Taehyung’s sleeping figure before picking up his jacket and leaves, making sure to be quiet enough not to wake him (or his roommate) up.

-

The following weeks went by smoothly for Jungkook. He managed to finish all his projects and ace all his exams without any problems. Namjoon would ask him about the night every chance he get but Jungkook would only wave him off, telling him that nothing happened. Namjoon didn’t believe him of course. Yoongi on the other hand only gave him a hard stare before saying “Believe the kid, Namjoon. Nothing happened to the sad creature”. He doesn’t know if he should be thankful at Yoongi for helping him out or cursing him for referring to him as a sad creature.
Other than his hyung’s constant teasing and nonsense, the following days went by fast and smooth much to Jungkook’s liking. Nothing really special happened until Yoongi finally decided that it’s time for them to meet his boyfriend.
Namjoon whistled saying, “About time. I thought we’d graduate first before we meet this mystery guy.”
Yoongi only rolls his eyes at him.

A few days later, Jungkook is seated beside Namjoon who’s talking non-stop with the guy in front of him. The guy smiles even at Namjoon’s most absurd jokes and Jungkook thinks that his Yoongi hyung found the right guy.
Jimin – Yoongi’s boyfriend, tolerates all of Namjoon’s stupid philosophical speeches and sometimes he even shares his opinion. Yoongi would scoff at the both of them but Jimin only laughs and holds his hand. Yoongi shuts up after that.
Overall, Jungkook is happy for his hyung. Both his hyungs. Since Namjoon also found another person that will tolerate all his antics aside from Seokjin (his best slash childhood friend but Jungkook and Yoongi knows they’re more than that).

-

It was March and Yoongi’s birthday. Jungkook was sitting on their couch, watching some old romance movie because he has no life when Yoongi appears from his room, looking troubled as he talk to someone over the phone.
“Really Jimin? Is there no other way?” Jungkook hears him say and from the looks of it, he’s talking to his boyfriend. They were supposed to have a date today and maybe Yoongi won’t come home tonight because, you know, it’s his birthday and Jimin will surely give him a nice present.
“I’m trying not to be disappointed but I can’t help it. You can’t blame me,” Yoongi lets out a deep breath, “I know it’s not your fault. Yeah, sorry for getting angry. I’ll just cancel everything.”
Jungkook had never seen his hyung this disappointed since the day he was laughed at by his family for wanting to major in music. And that’s saying something.
“Yeah yeah Jimin, just take care of your roommate. I’m not trying to guilt trip you shut up. He’s your best friend I understand,” Jungkook sees how Yoongi rolls his eyes, “If I know someone who can take care of him instead of you then we won’t be having this conversation–”
Yoongi stops talking and Jungkook’s heart beats faster when he realized that Yoongi is definitely staring at him with that stupid grin on his face, “Actually, Jimin I think I know someone. Yeah, he’s trustworthy and I promise he will not try to take advantage of your best friend’s sick state. Jungkook will say yes of course, it’s my birthday, it’s the least he can do for me,” when he said that, Yoongi was grinning devilishly at Jungkook and that’s when he knew he’s screwed.

Yoongi’s car finally stops and Jungkook looks out to see a very familiar apartment complex. He sat still, blinking stupidly, trying to remember where he’d seen the building when Yoongi barks at him to get his moving. He follows Yoongi to the elevator and sees him push the button to the seventh floor. Jungkook squints his eyes trying to remember because everything seemed familiar.
When they reach Jimin’s floor, Jungkook blindly follows his hyung again until he stops in front of a door and rings the doorbell.
A few seconds later, Jimin opens the door, his eyes red as if he was just crying. Yoongi envelopes him in a hug and whispers apologies to him until he’s sure Jimin’s totally calmed down. Both Yoongi and Jungkook steps inside and the moment he sees the interior, he swears.
“.”
Yoongi looks at him with a questioning stare, “What’s wrong?”
Jungkook shakes his head, maybe a little too fast, but Yoongi decided to let him off because he didn’t ask any further or maybe he just didn’t care. That helped, but the fact that Jungkook is now standing in the same room he was in almost two months ago, means that Jimin’s roommate is–

“Taehyung will most likely wake up before dinner since he just fell asleep an hour before you arrived. He’s a heavy sleeper so it’s okay even if you watch TV. I left fruits and some food in the fridge if any of you gets hungry. Tae can’t cook for so you could just heat it up,” Jimin tells him everything slowly but Jungkook’s brain stopped processing after hearing the name Taehyung.
He never thought that he would meet him again. And in this kind of situation.
“I’m really sorry for troubling you, Jungkook. But I already made him drink his medicine so you won’t be doing much except just look out for him every now and then. He overworked himself these past few weeks, art student and all, so he needs rest then he’ll get better. I’m counting on you, Jungkook.”
Jungkook nods but he doesn’t really understand.
He’s still as clueless as a new-born bird when Yoongi and Jimin finally leaves.
He remained standing in the middle of the living room, not knowing what to do next. Should he sit down and watch TV? Or should he go check Taehyung first?
He groans in frustration. Why the did he agree to this in the first place? If he had known that Jimin’s roommate is Kim Taehyung then he would’ve just made an excuse and avoided this (and let Yoongi hyung get sad on his birthday? Yeah right, Jungkook).
He plops himself down the couch but he didn’t turn on the TV. He sat there, chin resting above his hands, as he remember the events of that night. How Taehyung pulled him too close, closer than he would’ve liked, but still let him. How Taehyung smiled at him as he asked for his name. How they kissed, damn, how Taehyung kissed. How Taehyung listened to him and all his stupid antics.
“ my life,” Jungkook groans again and slams his head on the table. It hurt but he’s not going to admit that to anyone, not even himself.
And so he spent the next hours cursing his luck and life that he didn’t even notice himself being pulled away into a deep sleep.

-

Jungkook opens one eye first and notices the foreign surroundings. He almost panics when he finally remembers why he was here. He lets out a breath and sits up. He stretches his muscles and joints a little before slumping his body to the couch again. He grabs his phone from the table to check the time. 6:14 PM. His mind wanders to Yoongi and Jimin’s date and internally wishes everything went well.
Then he remembers what Jimin had told him hours ago.
He said Taehyung will most likely wake up before dinner and he still hadn’t heated any of the food Jimin left. He didn’t even check Taehyung once.
Jungkook stands up almost immediately after realizing his stupidity, causing his head-first fall, “Ouch that ing hurt.”
He decided that that incident would remain a secret from everyone. No one should know that he fell on his face after waking up. No one should, but unfortunately, when Jungkook turned around, he was met with a wide-eyed burrito Taehyung.
The said male was blinking innocently at Jungkook as he hugged the blankets closer to his body. Jungkook could only stare because even at this state, Taehyung still looked like a ing model with his nice body built and pretty face.
“Jungkook?”
, he remembers me.
“What are you doing here?” Taehyung asks him and he couldn’t hide the look of confusion on his face. Jungkook understands him though, because really, why would he be here? It’s not like they’re friends. But Taehyung doesn’t know that Jungkook is friends with Jimin’s boyfriend so of course he’d be confused.
“Uh…” was all Jungkook manages to say and damn you, Jeon Jungkook you’re hopeless.
Taehyung blinks at him again, not saying anything and Jungkook could feel the tension rising because he remembers me so of course he remembers how we met and he knows how stupid I was – am.
So Jungkook says the first thing that comes to his mind, “Are you hungry? Jimin told me to heat the food if you are.”
This seemed to catch Taehyung off guard, but he follows Jungkook to the kitchen (still wrapped in his blanket) and watches him as he heat Jimin’s omelette. He stares at every move Jungkook makes, not knowing how uncomfortable it makes the latter.
Taehyung stares even when Jungkook puts the food in front of him and sits on the farthest chair away from him. Taehyung stares even when Jungkook was eating his own food silently, avoiding eye contact. Taehyung stares even when Jungkook takes the plate from him and washes them by the sink.
Taehyung continues to stare and Jungkook finally had enough.
“Do you need something else, Taehyung?” he asks but he receives no answer because Taehyung was still staring.
“Taehyung? Will you please stop staring so much? It kind of makes me uncomfortable.”
That causes a reaction from him. Taehyung flinches as blinks at Jungkook rather innocently as if he wasn’t staring intently at him just a few moments ago. He his lips and looks away, “Why are you here? Where’s Jimin?”
“He’s out with Yoongi hyung. Birthday date and stuff,” Jungkook explains and Taehyung seemed to understand him.
“So you’re here in exchange of Jimin?” Jungkook nods, “Why you though?”
“Well, I was spending my precious life watching an old romcom movie when Yoongi hyung appeared looking troubled as hell because his boyfriend’s roommate was sick and there was no one to take care of him, so he kind of volunteered me to do it.”
“You’re Yoongi hyung’s friend?”
“Yeah, also his roommate.”
Taehyung nods at this once again and the deafening silence wins over them (Jungkook wanted to die at the awkwardness). No one tried to say anything after that. They had nothing to talk about in the first place.
Because really, should Jungkook open a conversation like ‘hey do you remember that night where I almost did the thing with you in this very same apartment?’ or ‘I’m sorry for leaving you hanging months ago’? The night he met Taehyung was not something he regret, actually it was one of the most unforgettable moments of his life (but he did forget where Taehyung lived for a while). If Taehyung wasn’t who he met that night, Jungkook wonders if there would be changes in his life.
Would he have been able to pass all his exams with flying colors? Well, talking to Taehyung actually helped him calm down about the issue with Sana and all.
Time passed by without them talking to each other and Jungkook wished for Yoongi and Jimin’s immediate return. He actually wanted to check Taehyung’s temperature or ask him if he’s feeling better, but he just can’t make himself do it. Not without making a complete fool out of himself – not that he needs to show more proof. Another hour with this level of awkwardness will slowly kill him, he’s sure of that.
Taehyung goes back into his room when he got fed up by the silence filling up the whole room and Jungkook doesn’t know what to feel about that. Should he be grateful that Taehyung left him alone? Or should he feel bad because Taehyung left him alone?
Jungkook wanted to smack himself.
“Get a grip, Jeon Jungkook,” he says as he slap his own face with both his hands.
On the other side of the apartment, inside his own room, Taehyung slams his head on the wall (not minding the pain from both the hard wall and his sickness) as he curse himself for not being able to talk to Jungkook.

It was a little before midnight when Jimin arrives with a semi-drunk Yoongi in tow.
Jungkook was almost dozing off on the couch when the door opened and enters a problematic-looking Jimin carrying Yoongi whose muttering words Jungkook couldn’t quite decipher nor understand.
Jimin spots him straightaway and he almost cries for help, “Thank God you’re still here, Jungkook. Yoongi’s drunk and he won’t let go of my arm.”
“Can’t you just let him sleepover here?” Jimin’s smug expression didn’t actually give Jungkook the answer he needed.
“If I do that, we both know we won’t be doing much sleeping and Taehyung’s sick in the next room so no way in hell.”
Jungkook sighs in defeat and just accepts his hyung when Jimin carefully handed him over together with Yoongi’s car keys. He bids goodbye to Jimin and leaves before he could even think about Taehyung.

-

Jungkook almost forgot about meeting Taehyung if it wasn’t for Jimin who wouldn’t shut up about the fact. He brings up the topic again during lunch.
“I mean Taehyung seemed all weird after you took care of him that night. He was all ‘are you friends with Jungkook?’ or ‘is he really that quiet?’ and I found it weird because he doesn’t show that much interest about other people.”
Namjoon, Yoongi and Seokjin looks at him weirdly at this but Jungkook decides to ignore all the questioning looks and raised eyebrows. Unfortunately, Jimin is the type that won’t shut up until all his questions are answered.
“Did you do something to him, Jeon Jungkook? I swear to God if you did something inappropriate I will forget that you’re Yoongi hyung’s friend.”
“What? No! I didn’t do anything. I just made him eat your omelette then spent my time playing games on my phone until you arrive with Yoongi hyung.”
“But why was he acting like that?”
“I, I don’t know.” Crap. He didn’t mean to stutter and hoping no one noticed that is too late since Yoongi was already looking at him like he was caught stealing food from Seokjin’s fridge.
“I can’t believe you would hit on a sick and vulnerable guy, Kookie.” Jungkook flinches at the nickname but chose not to comment on it since its Yoongi and Yoongi is scary, “Why would you put it that way? Oh my god hyung I didn’t do anything.”
“Then why is Taehyung so curious about you?”

“I’m curious about who?”

All of them turn at the sound of the new voice. Jimin immediately bolts up from his seat to pull his best friend to the seat beside him, just across Jungkook.
Taehyung smiles at him and Jungkook gulps. It takes him a minute to fully process the former’s appearance. His hair, no longer burning red, instead it was dyed light brown with his bangs falling right up to his eyes. He’s not dressed anywhere near how he dressed the night they met at the club (v neck shirt and tight jeans) nor the day he was sick (beggar-like clothes with holes and rips). He was wearing a sweater and a pair of sweatpants like he just came after a few rounds of exercise.
“I’m glad you came. I thought you’d still be buried under the mountain of your paint and sketch pads,” Jimin says rather excitedly as if they don’t see each other at home.
“Of course I’ll be here. You told me you want me to meet your Yoongi’s friends and all,” Taehyung deadpans and Yoongi chokes at the ‘your’ Yoongi.
“So what were you talking about? Me being curious about who?” Taehyung adds later with a smile that made everyone smile back at him. Seokjin even looked like he wanted to put him in his pocket.
“Just about Jungkook taking advantage of you being sick so he could hit on you.”
Both Taehyung and Jungkook chokes at that.
“What?” the former asks, completely baffled.
“So he didn’t make a move you?” Namjoon asks.
Taehyung roughly shakes his head, “No no. He just gave me food then we talked a little before I went back to my room and rest.”
All of them say, “Hmmm.”
But they know all of them didn’t quite believe them.

By the end of their little gathering, all of them were already under Taehyung’s spell. Seokjin even promised to cooks something for him and he only does that for Namjoon (because well, you know why) and Jungkook (being the youngest and its advantages). Taehyung was very friendly, Jungkook observes. He doesn’t get embarrassed easily by all the other’s teasing and bluffs, he just smiles and would sometimes play along. No wonder everyone else liked him.
“You should hangout with us more, Tae,” the nickname even rolls out of Seokjin’s tongue as if it was the most common thing to call him, “Jungkook here is getting tired of being the fifth wheeler. Date him, will you?” Jungkook spurts out his water to Yoongi’s face. Jimin laughs. Namjoon takes out his phone to take a photo of Yoongi giving Jungkook the finger while the younger apologizes.
When Yoongi was already Jungkook spit-free, Seokjin grins and says, “So what do you say, Tae?”
Jungkook really wanted to disappear and be swallowed by the ground right now. While Taehyung just laughs and smiles, Jungkook blushes and dies.
“That depends. Have you moved on from your ex, Kookie? What was her name again? Sana, right?”
Jungkook gawks.
The rest’s jaws drops to the floor.

“How did you know about her?” And finally Yoongi asks the question everyone wanted to ask.
Taehyung only grins at them as Jungkook wallows on self-pity.

The moment they reached their respective dorms though, Jungkook was bombarded with questions by Yoongi (“What the happened between you two, Jeon Jungkook? You can’t lie to me, kid. I know when you lie.”)
Taehyung didn’t have it any easier (“Kim Taehyung sit on our friendship couch and spill everything you sly fox.”)

It wasn’t a surprise that everyone knows the whole story the following day.

-

If Jungkook thought that the incident would make things more awkward between them, for Taehyung it was finally the opportunity he was waiting for to be able to befriend him.
Taehyung talks to him a lot now. He tells Jungkook about himself (he learns that Taehyung is the same age as Jimin but it’s not like he calls Jimin hyung anyways). Taehyung tells him that he liked sketching random moments and painting beautiful sceneries just because. He says how he met Jimin during middle school, thought he looked cute and befriended him. He prefers watching Disney animations instead of horror movies. He’s willing to leave anything he’s doing for pizza any damn time.
It was this time that Taehyung does the talking as Jungkook listens warily.
They were not so awkward with each other after that.

-

Much to Jimin’s surprise and after Seokjin’s pleading, Taehyung started hanging out with them often. He goes clubbing with them. Eats lunch with them. Goes to the movies with them. He even joins one of their sleepovers at Seokjin and Namjoon’s huge apartment.
If before, Jungkook didn’t even know they go to the same university, now he seems to see Taehyung everywhere. Hallways. Cafeteria. Gym. Library. Literature class. And now on the benches by the field.
“Fancy seeing you here, Kookie,” Taehyung greets him with his signature boxed grin as he pat the space beside him, gesturing him to sit. He just came from his last class for the day so Jungkook thinks talking o Taehyung for a bit won’t hurt.
“Hey, didn’t think you’d be here,” Jungkook says as he finally decided that yes, it’s okay to sit beside him. They’re friends after all.
“Skipped my last class, too boring.”
“So you decided to sit here and watch other people go on with their lives?”
“Yeah. It’s fun to watch people. Better than sitting for two hours listening to a lecture that can lull me to sleep. Looking at them makes you want to guess what their story is or how their day went.”
“Can you guess how my day went then?”
It was a sudden question. Jungkook didn’t even know why he asked that. He just wanted the conversation to keep going since Taehyung looked so peaceful looking afar like that. The elder looks at him with furrowed eyebrows then smiles, “Went on like the usual. Boring day, I mean.”
Jungkook makes a face but didn’t try to defend himself. All his classes are pretty boring to be honest. Or maybe it’s just because he doesn’t really like what he’s doing. He just took up Business because the time he went to college, he doesn’t really know what to take so he ended up taking what his parents told him to though he doesn’t actually enjoy it.
“Did you ever want to change courses?” Jungkook thinks for a short while and then shakes his head, “Not really. I don’t really know what I want to do myself. I just know that I want to be rich and successful to the point where when people hear the name Jeon Jungkook, they would be amazed and wish they’re just like me.”
Taehyung was looking at something from afar again, smiling. “That’s a nice dream.”
“How about you?”
“Just want to graduate, find a job that pays well.”
Jungkook snorts, “And you call me boring.”
“It’s just that I really love painting and sketching, some photography even, but you know not all people thinks doing art can get you anywhere. My parents are one of those,” Jungkook sees Taehyung smile, but it was unlike his previous ones, “They still let me study what I want though. They just don’t forget to remind me each day that I won’t be successful in this career.”
“That’s not true. All of us don’t know what lies ahead. I mean, I could go study Business and even graduate with honours but end up on the streets, begging for food and money. You might be that mediocre art student from the same university that gives me exactly what I need or more because you’re already an international artist or something.”
“Thanks, Jungkook. All my friends tell me not to mind my parents and all that crap but no one ended up imagining himself on the streets.”
The smile on Taehyung’s face that moment didn’t leave Jungkook’s mind for following days.
(“Why the are you blushing at the dirty plates?”
“Ah sorry Yoongi hyung, I just got distracted for a while.”)

-

The story of how they met became a running joke between the two of them. Jungkook slams his head unto something every time even though it doesn’t disturb him anymore unlike when he first told the story to Yoongi. It was Taehyung who enjoys reliving the moment, reminding Jungkook about every detail of the night.
(“Hey hey Kookie, did you know that we broke Jimin’s favorite lamp when you pushed me to the wall? I tripped over its cord but I didn’t care that time. But when I woke up to Jimin’s hysterical screams it’s impossible not to care anymore.”
“Hey hey Jungkook do you remember when you were about to cry because you felt guilty about hooking up just after you broke up with your girlfriend?”
“Jungkook Jungkook do you remember when–“)
The others enjoy seeing Jungkook looked so tormented every single time so they just let Taehyung talk.

-

Jungkook becomes Jimin’s arch enemy. Yoongi tells him to let the kid be but Jimin won’t have that. He can’t just let Jungkook take the title of ‘Kim Taehyung’s Best Bro’ away from him.
He glares at the two younger boys from across the room (they are sitting on Jimin and Taehyung’s friendship couch how dare you Jungkook) talking about something that makes Taehyung laugh like there’s no tomorrow.
“Look at them, Yoongi. Just look at them. I won’t be surprised if Taehyung introduces Jungkook as his best friend someday while I’m his best friend’s roommate’s boyfriend,” he whines at the elder who looked like he’s so done with his boyfriend’s .
Yoongi sighs, cages Jimin’s face between his two hands and speaks slowly, “Jimin, your title as Taehyung’s best friend is not in danger. You will forever be Kim Taehyung’s best bro, don’t worry.”
“But hyung–”
“No, listen to me. Jungkook doesn’t look like Taehyung’s best friend if you look at them from another perspective. I mean, seriously, look at them.”
And Jimin does.
Taehyung’s legs were placed above Jungkook’s, who plays with the elder’s hair as he tell him some about something he read online. The way Jungkook’s eyes shined as he watched Taehyung talk, the way Taehyung laughs at Jungkook’s stupid stories, Jimin realizes doesn’t really look like how best friends act.
He turns to Yoongi who was now looking at him with a smug grin, “Believe me now?”
Jimin nods.

-

It all goes downhill a month later.
“I’m on my way, hyung. Same place right?” Jungkook asks Yoongi on the phone, trying to balance his phone in between his ear and shoulder with all the folders and papers he’s carrying, “Am I the only one missing? Taehyung, too? Sorry hyung, I was kind of held up in class and I’m carrying a lot of stuff, you could just eat without me when you get hungry.”
Yoongi calls him and Taehyung a , tells him to move faster and Jungkook laughs, “Okay hyung, I’m near Taehyung’s building, tell him to meet me I can’t move my arms anymore. I need help.”
Yoongi hangs up and Jungkook was left looking like an idiot with all his stuff as he stand by the entrance of the Arts building. He stood there for almost five minutes and his arms about to give up when someone suddenly takes all the research papers from his arms, lightening his load.
“Hi Jungkook.”
It was Sana.

To: Yoongi Hyung
Tell Taehyung to go there directly, I can’t go today hyung.
Something came up.
Sorry.

-

Jungkook starts spending less time with his friend during the exam week but that was acceptable since he had to study. But even after the exams, Jungkook remained holed up in his room doing something whenever Yoongi tries to ask him out. Aside from Yoongi, being his roommate and all, the last time he was able to see his friends was more than a two weeks ago. Replying to their messages started becoming scarce too. Even to Taehyung.
But it’s not like Taehyung contacts him recently anyways. The last message he received from them was from Jimin.

Fr: Roommate’s wife
Hey Jungkook
Seokjin hyung wanted to throw some party for Tae
He was top in his class, did you know that?
Anyway, same place at seven

That was two days ago and no, he wasn’t able to come. He texted Taehyung a quick ‘congrats’ and he answers with a ‘thanks’. That was the end of that.

Meanwhile, Taehyung couldn’t help but feel his heart break for more than two weeks now.

-

He gets confronted by them three days later.
His friends finds him sitting alone at their favourite café, sipping coffee as he look outside the window. He looked like he was thinking about something important seeing that his eyes were dark and cold. Yoongi was just about to call his attention when a girl take the seat across him and they see Jungkook smile, all the coldness from before disappearing.
“Wait, that’s Sana, right?” Namjoon says and Taehyung walks out of the café, not even bothering to take notice of the numerous times his name was called out.

The moment Jungkook heard Taehyung’s name being called, he sees his friends quickly running out as if chasing something. Almost all of them left aside from Yoongi who stayed and approached him, only to tell him, “You ed up, Jeon Jungkook” before following the rest.

“I think they misunderstood something. Go and follow them, Jungkook. Explain this to them,” Sana’s warm voice pulls him back when he was already drowning with his thoughts. He nods and readies to leave because it seems like Yoongi’s mad at him for something and Yoongi never gets mad like that.
Jungkook gives Sana one last smile before he heads out, fishing his phone from his pocket and dials Jimin’s number.

-

Jungkook arrives at Jimin and Taehyung’s apartment an hour later. It was Yoongi who opened the door for him though, and he looked like he wanted to kick Jungkook’s . When he stepped inside, he notices that Namjoon, Seokjin and Yoongi were the only ones at the living room. The owners of the apartment are nowhere to be seen.
“You may not know this but you’ve been hurting us lately, Jungkook. Not spending time with us, ignoring our invitations, not answering our messages and calls, we felt a little neglected,” Seokjin starts. Jungkook feels a little guilty because what he said was true. He didn’t mean to be an but turns out, it can’t be helped, “I told them to just let you be for a moment because maybe you were busy with your academics and such. I was wrong though.”
Looking at the situation now, it all became clear to Jungkook what his friends had misunderstood about what happened at the café a few hours earlier. He takes a deep breath and smiles at his hyungs.
“I’m really sorry about ignoring you guys these past few weeks. I was busy. I don’t even check my phone that much.”
“We figured. Busy with your girl, right? Don’t want her to leave again. Priorities,” Jungkook flinches at Yoongi’s bitter tone.
“No hyung, it’s not like that. Sana and I, we’re not back together. I was just asking her for help about something.”
“What’s so important that made you so busy for a week after exams, Jeon Jungkook?” Namjoon asks just as the door to Taehyung’s room open, showing Jimin, who was looking at him accusingly, and Taehyung. Jungkook’s heart breaks at how Taehyung looked. He was a mess, eyes and nose red, mouth swollen because of too much lip biting and hair dishevelled by the wind.
Jungkook made sure he was looking straight into Taehyung’s eyes when he answered, “I’m changing my major. Finally got tired of business and realized I kind of enjoy dancing so why not? Had a hard time convincing my parents to let me, saying I won’t be able to fulfil my lifelong dream of becoming the great Jeon Jungkook. I told them I don’t care. That now my dream is just to graduate then find a job that pays well,” Jungkook sees Taehyung smile a little, “Sana helped me convince them. She was also helping me with my transfer papers and everything else. I wanted to tell you guys when everything’s over and polished. I didn’t know it would end up like this. Sorry.”
They were all speechless after Jungkook’s confession. All of them knew the younger didn’t really like what he was studying, but they also know that Jungkook didn’t transfer because he doesn’t have anything that he enjoys doing. It was a surprise for them, moreover that the fact that he’s willingly thrown away his dream since he was kid, for something he actually likes.

“Glad you finally found your calling, Jungkook,” Taehyung says, finally breaking the ice cold silence, and smiles. The same smile that Jungkook wasn’t able to get out of his head for days.
Much like this one.

-

“Everyone was nice to me especially the junior named Hoseok. He dances like water, hyung! He’s so talented,” All of them unconsciously smiles as they listen to Jungkook talk about his first day being a dance major. They had never heard Jungkook talk about something so enthusiastically before, “Seriously I think Jimin’s dancing would look like that of a grade schooler if they’re compared or something. Can you believe it? Everyone calls him a saint because he’s nice to everyone but then they call him devil every time he dances because damn, hyung.”
Namjoon, Seokjin and Yoongi shares a look with each other when Jungkook’s eyes simply shined when he talked about dancing.
We’re happy for you, kid.

“By the way, Taehyung,” he suddenly stops rambling about how great his senior is and turns all his attention to the innocent art major who was smiling to himself because of Jungkook’s giddiness.
“Yeah?”
“Hoseok hyung told me we’ll be having a small showcase in two weeks. I’m participating but for only two or three performances since I’m new and it’s hard to learn all dance routines. He gave me a ticket, told me give it to someone. Wanna’ come?”
Namjoon whistles. Seokjin coos at them. Yoongi simply didn’t care. Jimin gapes. And Taehyung, Taehyung blinked at him.
“Can you go?” Jungkook asks him again. He bites his lip nervously, afraid of a rejection.
It took Taehyung ten seconds to process everything but he says a squeaky yes afterwards.

(“Oh my god, Yoongi. This is it. My baby Tae is going to be taken away from me.”
“Jimin please. Jungkook just asked him to watch his showcase, not marry him. Besides it’s not like we won’t be there. We’ll buy tickets, remember? Taehyung just got it for free.”
“Yes because Jungkook is going to elope with him after the showcase.”
“What the– ”)

-

The day before the showcase, Jungkook was feeling so restless that Yoongi had to throw a pillow directly to his face to make him stop walking back and forth.
“Calm the down Jungkook or I swear I will slit your throat and you won’t be able to impress Taehyung tomorrow.”
He stops after that.

-

The showcase lasted for two hours but it was a blur for Jungkook.
He performed three songs and all the time he was on stage, his eyes were glued to Taehyung’s who was sitting on the front row (the ticket he gave was for VIPs) smiling at him widely. Jungkook gives his best each time and everyone praised him when he returns to the backstage. He thanks them but it wasn’t what he was looking for.
For his final performance, he was with Hoseok. It was supposedly the junior’s solo but then he asked Jungkook to perform with him just so he could show his face more to the crowd (and to the one you gave the ticket to). He hears Namjoon’s cheers during the performance and he smiles when he finds them waving at him.
The showcase ends and the people started piling out of the venue, except for some who were given the tickets. They were ushered to the back stage and that’s when Jungkook sees Kim Taehyung again, smiling and clapping like a proud mother.
“You were great, Kookie. If you could dance like that why didn’t you transfer sooner? God, I’m your number one fan, okay? Don’t give that spot to anyone else,” Taehyung wipes some fake tears from his eyes and coos at him.
“So, did you like it?”
Taehyung finally stops making inhuman noises and smiles at Jungkook, “I love it.”
Jungkook figures that all he needed was these words from Taehyung’s mouth to forget about all the other praises he received. His eyes were shining so bright that Jungkook thought he was facing the sun itself, “I love it too,” he realizes that what he said was stupid and nonsense when Taehyung grins weirdly at him.
“I think you’re referring to a different thing here, Kookie.”
Jungkook chokes on his own saliva when Taehyung wiggles his eyebrows at him as if teasing him, “What?”
“Come on,” Taehyung pouts, “You should refer to me as you, he or him. Maybe handsome or beautiful too. But not it. That’s wrong. But don’t worry, it’s mutual.”
“Huh?”

“That’s bad Taehyung. You can do better than that.”
“Really Jimin? Do you remember when you confess to me? You were worse than that.”
Taehyung laughs at himself while Yoongi and Jimin argue on one corner.

“Wait hyung, what?” Jungkook asks, honestly confused about what’s happening.
Taehyung chuckles at that though, for a reason Jungkook doesn’t know, “Really Jungkook? I just embarrassed myself so badly and confessed like a stupid grade schooler and you’re asking that?”
“You confessed?”

Somewhere in the room, Seokjin slaps himself and Namjoon curses the youth.

Taehyung laughs again and takes another step closer towards Jungkook, leans in to his ear and whispers in a soft but still deep voice, “I said I love you and I hate you for making me say that directly because that’s too cheesy.”
“Oh.”
“You need to suffer the same dilemma. Come on, tell me.”
Jungkook gulps.
Leans in closer to Taehyung.
And kisses him.

“Okay damn that was smooth.”

-

Why Kim Taehyung was in the club that night…

“Tae…”
“Yes, Jimin?”
“Go out of the apartment.”
“What? Is this your new way of iling me? You’ve become more rude, Chim.”
“Stupid, no. You’re rotting here watching anime all day. Go out have some fun.”
“I don’t want to. I enjoy the company of my laptop filled with all current episodes of Detective Conan.”
“I thought that’s finished…”
“You thought, my friend. You thought.”
“Anyways get the out, please. You need to get laid, Kim Taehyung. I can smell you rotting from here.”
“I am offended Park Jimin.”
“Shut up. Go or I swear I’ll format your laptop then change the WiFi password so you can’t download everything again.”
“…”
“What?”
“You are evil, Park Jimin.”

-

After Jimin was assured he will forever be the best bro…

“Tae…”
“Yes, Jimin?”
“Do you like Jungkook?”
“Excuse me?”
“You heard me, stupid. Answer me.”
“Jimin…”
“I will format– ”
“Damn, okay fine. Yes yes I do. Leave my laptop alone, you devil.”
“Awww, be careful though. I don’t want you to get hurt.”
“Thanks, Jimin.”

The Day Jungkook Meets Sana Again

“Hi Jungkook.”“Sana?”
“Nice to see you again. Seems like you haven’t changed even a bit.”
“Compliment or insult?”
“Insult, actually.”
“You wound me.”
“I mean you’re still here, studying business.”
“What do you mean?”
“You were always so selfless. Always doing whatever other people want you to. You were too nice, Jungkook. You don’t want to hurt others so much that you often lie to yourself in the end.”
“I don’t understand…”
“Why are you still studying business, Jungkook? Is it because you’re afraid of your parents?”
“No, it’s not like that.”“Then why?”
“Because I don’t want to take if I leave.”
“See? That’s what I mean. You made yourself believe that lie. But do you remember when I mentioned my friend from Japan? She’s a dance major. The moment you heard that, your eyes lit up. I was jealous at first but then you only seemed interested about what they do, not her.”
“Sana, don’t.”
“And Jungkook? We both know why I’m the one who did the breaking up.”
“…”
“I know about it. You didn’t feel the same way I did. Yeah, you care about me but as friend. Nothing more. I figured it out and ended it. I can’t continue hurting you and myself.”
“Sana stop, I need to leave.”
“Be honest with yourself, Jeon Jungkook. Be selfish for once. I’m here if you need help. I can talk to my friend if you want to transfer.”

Café Scene

“Tae, don’t cry please.”
“Jimin I’m so stupid. I made myself believe that maybe I have a goddamn chance.”
“Tae, don’t. Let’s hear him first okay? Jungkook’s a nice kid, annoying sometimes but he won’t be that much of an to just do that.”
“He doesn’t even know that I like him, Jimin. Why the hell would he explain?”“He asked me where you were. He cares, Tae.”
“Don’t get my hopes up.”
“Am not. Just saying maybe you really have a goddamn chance.”

-

After The Showcase

“Jungkook?”
“Yeah, Taehyung?”
“I didn’t misunderstand what happened earlier right? You really feel the same way?”
“You’ve been asking that since we left the university and that was two hours ago. My answer will not change, Kim Taehyung. Yes. I do. I feel the same.”
“Are you sure? Because I don’t want you to be obligated about this just because I told you what I feel.”
“Kim Taehyung?”
“Yeah?”
“You’re a real .”
“So I’ve heard.”
“Tae, I really really like you since before. Someone just told me to be honest with myself and try to be selfish once so yeah, I’m so damn sure about this.”
“Say it then…”
“Huh?”
“Say it. You didn’t say it even when I said it like three times already.”
“Really Taehyung? Isn’t it a little cheesy?”
“It is. I just want to hear it, and see you suffer. So yeah, say it.”
“Fine, damn. I love you, Kim Taehyung.”
“…”
“What?”
“You look stupid.”
“Go away.”
