That kind of love

I want a “you are the first person I told” kind of love.

Byul-Yi looked around the room while drinking from her cocktail and made a disgusted face the second tasted the ridiculously sweet liquid. Placing the glass on a nearby table she made her way to the small bar Wheein and Hwasa had prepared at the back of the room. After fighting her way through the small crowd filling the space, she managed to get hold of a drink that didn’t have sparkles or a weird colour. Finally happy with a drink that suited her and didn't look like unicorn vomit she decided to indulge a bit in her favourite pass time and found her way to a corner so she could watch everyone at the party.

Chuckling she shook her head as she took in just how many people were there. Only Wheein would invite her to the opening of her gallery then ditch her the second she arrived. Then again, only Wheein would have her opening be a costume party for half the city.

Her attention was diverted from a particularly funny looking group of people when she felt someone bump into her, making her spill soju all over the front of her shirt. With a mumbled curse Byul started dabbing at her shirt, thankful she had remembered to grab a few napkins just in case.

“Really? Police officer? Didn’t they have any other clichéd costumes available?”

Ready to retort Byul turned to the stranger, her eyes catching long strong legs before the other person’s costume came to view and a snarky remark found its way to her lips.

“Well, I did ask, but the guy at the store said that you had taken the last one.” She said with a full-blown smirk looking all the way up to meet the face of the other girl.

Big brown eyes glared at her, one eyebrow raised and lips pursed together. Byul took her time examining the girls face. From the puffy cheeks to the mole right under her eyebrow, it was clear the girl was gorgeous. Gorgeous, and clearly annoyed at Byul's unashamed appreciation, although she did notice a light blush appearing on the girls face when their eyes locked again.

“Are you always this rude to people you just met?”
“Are you always this pretty?”

“Ya-ah! What the hell?” The girl said smacking Byul’s shoulder way harder than the blonde had expected from such a slender body.

“Who dresses as a flight attendant anyway…You do know this is not the 60's right? The whole fantasy around flight attendants, and anything plane related to be honest, died a while back now." Byul replied sipping from her bottle, her eyes roaming over the girl’s blue and white uniform.

“You've got a problem with flight attendants?”

“Other than the fact that they are overrated, rude, obnoxious and replacing them with machines would make everyone's life easier? Nope, not at all.”

“Pray tell, what is so wrong about flight attendants that makes you hate them that much.” The girl said looking smug.

“Well for starters they are not even nice anymore. I mean isn’t that their job? To help people during the flight and be nice to everyone? But no, what we get instead is old frustrated women, that snap at virtually anything and treat the passengers like cattle. Also, the whole deal with flight attendants being so great in the first place was that they were hot! I'm not saying they all have to be models, obviously, but c'mon. Now most of them are scary looking old women and the few, very few, hot ones are all rude as and full of themselves.”

“Like the police force is any better. Instead of protecting and serving all they do is make people be scared of them. At least flight attendants have some studies, most of your police buddies are brainless idiots that couldn’t get a job anywhe-”

“Byulyi unnie! Yongsun unnie! I see you’ve met already.” Wheein exclaimed, excited to see her two friends talking. “… what’s with those faces? Oh god, what did you do now?” She said looking from one to the other.

Wheein’s brow scrunched up when she took in what they were wearing. Before either of the two girls could say anything at all the young artist glared at them both and pinched the bridge of her nose.

“I told you it was a costume party! I swear to God, no wonder you two are still single. You are already on a long-term relationship with your jobs! Who in their right minds brings their work uniform to a party!?”

Hearing Hwasa call for her, the quirky artist rushed away, getting lost in the mass of people and leaving her two very confused girls standing there frozen.

“You are a cop?”/“You are a flight attendant?” They both said at the same time.

“You must not be very good at your job if you couldn’t figure out I was a flight attendant huh?” Yongsun teased with a small smile as she crossed her arms over her chest.

Byul took the challenge, setting down both her and Yongsun’s drinks on a nearby table and taking her time to look over the flight attendant.

“Well, the reason I didn’t think you’d be a real stewardess was the outfit. I’ve flown with that company many times and that is not the uniform they use. That leads me to believe you either inherited it from a relative that did work at that company or someone lent it to you. But of course, you wouldn’t use a family heirloom to go to a party, so...it’s something that belongs to you. My guess is that your mentor at the company gave it to you when you became a flight attendant, but since then you have lost all contact with this person and don't care about ruining it. How did I do?” she finished with a cocky smirk, the way Yongsun’s confident grin had been replaced with wide eyes told her that she had been spot on.

“Not bad officer, not bad at all,” Yongsun said with a bright smile. The dimpled grin made Byul smile back right away.

“It’s actually inspector since…two hours ago.”

“Congratulations!" The brunette exclaimed excitedly. "Shouldn’t you be celebrating with your friends then?”

“Well, that was the plan but Wheein has been too busy for me to even tell her the big news,” Byul answered with a chuckle, shaking her head lightly as she caught sight of said girl dragging Hwasa around.

"Aren't you a bit young to be an inspector?"

“I’m actually the youngest inspector in the force at the moment. Just turned 22...”

“Congrats smarty-pants. Wait, am I the first person you’ve told?” Seeing Byul’s nod the girl smiled even brighter if possible, taking two champagne flutes from a passing waiter and lifting hers. “Well, I’m honoured I was the first to know inspector…”

“Moon. Inspector Moon Byul-Yi at your service.”

“Congratulations inspector Moon. I’m Kim Yongsun.”

A “goofy smile when I walk in the room” kind of love.

Yongsun rubbed the small of her back as she stood in the back of the plane thankful that they were finally landing. So many hours walking up and down the small aisles in those heels were going to kill her one day. Between the pain in her back and the kid on seat 23B, she came close to murder once or twice during the flight.

After a week of daily flights back and forth to Hong Kong, she was finally getting some well deserved days off. But everything seemed to be against her that day.

First, her alarm didn't go off in time, so it had to be her co-worker Irene the one to wake her up with just enough time to make it to the plane, which meant no breakfast and a foul mood.

Then the flight had to be held up in HKG for 4 hours while they checked a problem on the oil deposit.

It was just 2 minutes into the actual flight that she found out just how annoying some people can be. The second the last passenger was on the plane she rushed out. There was no way in hell she was going to stay at work for a minute more than necessary.

Yongsun didn’t even bother to change out of her work clothes as she texted Byul to see if she wanted to grab some dinner. She knew that if anyone was still up at 4 am it was the police officer.

Y: I need food, tell me you are still up, please. I need something other than airport food.
B: Hello to you too. Oh, I’ve been great thank you for asking ^_^
Y: Cmoooon don’t be a meanie
B: You know I can’t say no to you. See you at Mrs Kwang's?
Y: Already on my way. Traffic is bad but I shouldn’t take too long.
B: Don’t worry I’ll order for us
Y: Touch one noodle Byul-Yi and I will kill you. One. noodle. ¬¬
B: See you in a bit lol

Yongsun smiled down at her phone wishing silently for the taxi driver to go faster. Between her constant travels and Byul working hard on her new rank, the pair of friends had barely seen each other the past couple months. After running into each other over and over again at Wheein’s gallery or Hwasa's restaurant they had become close friends. Using their similar taste and love for food as a thread they started to meet whenever one of them found out about a new restaurant they could enjoy together.

Quickly the lunches and dinners became as frequent as their demanding schedules would allow. And so those meetings evolved into hanging out at the cafeteria bellow Byul’s precinct, Byul driving Yongsun to the airport after they had lunch together before every big flight or recently making official their Film&Food Friday’s.

They had been dancing on the line of things for far too long, but neither of them really had the guts to try and defy the balance they had at the moment.

Paying the taxi driver Yongsun got out of the car in a rush, smiling when she noticed Byul already sited at their usual place next to the window, surrounded by what looked like their favourites. The blonde girl had her chin resting on her forearms, staring at the plates with a mixture of hatred and longing. Yongsun saw her hand move towards some food before she shook her head and went back to resting her forehead on her arms. Yongsun couldn’t help but laugh at the sight of serious, workaholic, badass police inspector Moon Byul-Yi looking so desperately at a plate of food.

Even from afar Yongsun could see the dark bags under the younger girls eyes, the way her usually tidy hair was tied up in a messy bun and her uniform was a mess, her tie hanging loosely around her neck and the first few buttons of her shirt undone. Shaking her head she made a mental note to scold her friend for overworking herself so much.

Pushing the door open Yongsun gave Mrs Kwang a small bow and a smile, turning to the room when the old lady pointed to their table, her eyes immediately finding Byul. Hearing the bell from the door, the inspector had whipped her head up hoping that the flight attendant was finally there. Yongsun couldn’t help but smile back when she saw the way a goofy grin made it’s way to Byul’s face.

An “I noticed that you needed this so I got it for you” kind of love.

Byul was in the midst of her latest hobby, banging her head against her desk, when a knock on the door made her stop. With a groan, she told the person on the other side to come in without bothering to raise her forehead from its place on the desk, she knew all her superiors had left the precinct hours ago so formalities were not at risk.

“Seriously? You are still like that?” Yongsun said leaning against the doorframe with a smile on her face. “What am I going to do with you?” She said shaking her head as she walked to Byul, gently pushing her shoulders until she was resting properly on the back of the chair.

“I need to finish these reports, can’t go home yet.” Byul pouted looking at the computer with a glare. “But this thing is not working…as per usual. I've tried it all but the department only has so much money...”

Yongsun laughed at the inspector that was too busy to notice glaring holes at the screen. “Tell me that I’m the best.”

“Why in the world would I do tha-” her words cut short when she finally looked at the intruder and noticed the takeout cup of warm coffee in Yongsun’s hands. “You are the best!” she said grabbing her drug.

“I know.” Yongsun chuckled as she took her coat off and dropped it on one of the chairs and sat on the desk swinging her legs back and forth.

“I promise I’m going to take you out to that place you love near the river the second I’m done with this thing. It’s been too long since I’ve treated you to a proper dinner.” Byul smiled warmly as she turned to the computer once again. Lost in the thought of finishing up as soon as possible she failed to notice the blush that appeared on Yongsun's face. “How was L.A.? You barely texted me all week so you better have had the time of your life...”

Yongsun nodded while biting her lower lip. Taking a deep breath she got off the desk and walked back to the door where she had dropped her travel bag. She could feel Byul’s eyes on her as she looked for something inside the bag and moved across the room again, back to standing in front of the young inspector.

“Hopefully this will help…” The flight attendant said tucking a lock of hair behind her ear and shoving a big box on Byul’s lap. “I can always return it or look for a different model…it’s just…you are always so stressed out because of it Byul. I just wanted to help in any way I could…”

Byul frowned looking at her friend and then at the box. She tore the paper apart while Yongsun rambled, her jaw falling as her fingers caressed the picture of the product printed on the box. Oblivious to her reaction Yongsun kept talking.

“You know I’m no good with computers, but I looked it up online and this one seemed to be the best because it’s really really fast. Plus its light and not too big so you’ll be able to take it with you on all those tr-”

Too focused on looking down at her shoes Yongsun hadn’t noticed Byul standing up from her chair until two hands cupped her face and a pair of soft lips pressed against hers. After the shock of finally getting kissed by her best friend, she melted into the arms around her. They stood there, in each other's embrace simply basking in the sensation. Byul’s hands moved down to Yongsun’s waist while the older girl had her arms around the inspector's neck, her fingers running through those blonde locks that drove her crazy. She let out a small whimper when Byul pulled away resting their foreheads together.

“You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do that. I don’t know how could I repay you…”

“For the computer or…” Yongsun teased leaning up and tugging on Byul’s lower lip. Just because she could now.

“Yongsun-ah…”

“Well you could always do as you just promised and take me to that spot near the river, and then take a walk with me. Maybe I’ll even let you hold my hand and everything.” Yongsun said smiling when the younger girl pecked her nose with a grin.

“It’s a date.”

A “we are not going to bed til we've made up" kind of love.

“Oh my god! Are you serious?! You are being ridiculous right now. And you know it.”

“I saw the way he was looking at you Yongsun!” Byul yelled back at her girlfriend.

Yongsun rolled her eyes with a groan. She knew it was going to be difficult, but for once Byul could go with her to a party with her friends from the airline.

Yongsun knew that Byul was jealous. She had experienced jealous and overprotective Byul many times, but tonight it had been over the roof.

She kept insisting that one of the pilots was in love with Yongsun and was flirting with her. The guy had indeed been glued to Yongsun all night and kept making unfortunate comments, so she could understand her girlfriends point of view, but only to an extent.

Arresting the guy for attacking an officer when she had been the first to throw a punch had been the cherry on top to make Yongsun storm off the party.

Part of her had hoped that Byul would just go to her own flat that night and sleep it off, but not two minutes after she got home she heard a loud knock on the door. She opened it to come face to face with a red-faced Byul, whose angry face rivalled her own, that didn’t even bother to say anything before barging into the apartment.

“For ’s sake Yongsun! He kept looking at your !” Byul said pointing to said as she spoke, getting a roll of her eyes from her girlfriend.

“You know what? I’m going to bed. You can sleep on the sofa if you want. I’m too tired to deal with you right now.” Yongsun said shaking her head walking to her bedroom.

“No,” Byul answered following her and grabbing her wrist. “Please just talk to me.”

“How? No matter what I say you keep getting jealous for no reason.” She said turning around to look into the taller girl's eyes.

“I’m sorry. I-I just hate thinking that he gets to be with you more than I do. That when you go to all those exotic places and he’s there for you... And I know he’s in love with you because it’s impossible not to be.”

“Moon Byul-Yi listen to me. How long have we been dating?" The brunette asked slowly as her hands moved to cup the taller girl's face.

“7 months, 3 weeks and 2 days."

Yongsun had to hold back a smile at the speed with which Byul had replied.

"Have I ever given you any reason to doubt that you are the only one that I want?” She leaned resting their foreheads together with a sigh “I know you hate that we don’t see each other as much as we want. I miss you too. Every time I’m away or you are so focused on a case you won't leave the station for days my heart breaks. I want us to be together at all times, but we can't let these feelings get in the way of the rest of our lives. What would you do if I went after one of your coworkers because I thought they were competition?”

Byul sighed kissing her girlfriend slowly and wrapping her arms around the petite frame of the flight attendant.

“I’m sorry. I was a jackass.”

“Yes, you were” Yongsun’s response came out as a mumble due to her face now being pressed against her girlfriend’s shirt.

“I know I should’ve gone home but you know I sleep like without you. Couldn't even think of sleeping while we were angry at each other.” Byul said dropping a kiss on Yongsun’s shoulder.

“I forgive you you big baby. But I’m expecting some grand romantic gesture to show how sorry you really are. You can start by making dinner. I'm starving.” Yongsun finished with a pout when her stomach growled in agreement.

They both laughed as Byul nodded and made her way to the kitchen while Yongsun changed out of her dress and into a some more comfortable clothes. That being an old oversized SMPA shirt she had stolen from Byul when they had first started dating.

“And you should apologize to Eric. It’s not his fault you are so thick!” Byul heard Yongsun yell from the hallway as she got closer to the kitchen.

“Yeah yeah, I already texted the guys at the station telling them the situation. They’ll release him in the morning.” turning around Byul found an annoyed but amused Yongsun leaning against the door frame. “Oh, cmon! It’s just one night on a cell! He still flirted with you all night with me right there, he deserves some punishment.”

“You are incorrigible…”

“Says the girl that almost bit Krystal’s head off when we went to the beach and she offered to be the referee at the pull-up challenge” Byul smirked setting the ingredients down on the counter to get dinner ready.

Yongsun made a face crossing her arms over her chest with a pout.

“You have a huge crush on her, she’s a model and she was checking you out. I had every right.” Yongsun mumbled as she walked to Byul, hugging the taller girl from behind. Her mind drifted back proudly to how she had managed to hit the model squarely in the head while serving on a volleyball game later that day.

“She is pretty good looking,” Byul mumbled, laughing when the older girl bit on her shoulder as punishment. “But. She’s not you. I couldn’t live another day without looking into your eyes, feeling your arms around me or being able to kiss you.”

“You are still sleeping on the sofa, you grease ball.”

Byul groaned in protest, letting her head fall before turning around to wrap her arms around Yongsun's waist. With a soft smile, she bumped their noses together, pecking her girlfriend on the nose, cheeks and jaw. Only when Yongsun whined in annoyance at how Byul kissed her all over her face except her lips did she kiss her deep and slow.

They both knew that Byul was not sleeping on the sofa that night.

A “did you eat today?” kind of love

Yongsun walked around the busy streets of Seoul with a small smile on her face. She had finally managed to get her promotion as head stewardess. The new job did not only mean better pay but also a chance to have some control over her destinations and the number of flights she had to do each month.

Enjoying the sun on her face she sat down on a bench in front of the river taking in the sight of home. As she let her eyes wander to the different people that walked alongside the waters her sight got fixed on a blonde runner. The girl in question had a deep concentration face on and while she kept a high speed and a thin layer of sweat covered her arms and face, she looked like she had just started running. Her rhythm was maybe a bit too strong as if she was trying to prove something to herself. Frowning a bit as the girl got closer Yongsun tilted her head to the side.

“Byul-Yi?” She asked when the girl was close enough.

“Yongsun?! Hey!” Byul said stopping and taking her headphones out of her ears. “It’s been a long time, how have you been?”

“Good good, just got back from Japan.” Yongsun said standing up.

Both girls chuckled awkwardly as they didn’t know how to greet each other and made a series of failed attempts at different things. They finally settled on a small hug with Byul apologising for the sweat, Yongsun waving her off. Looking around Byul decided to take the initiative asking if she wanted to walk together along the river for a while, earning a shy nod form the brunette.

“That’s right! Wheeinpup told me you finally got that promotion you wanted so badly.” The taller girl said running a hand through her hair pushing her bangs back before they fell back in place.

Yongsun nodded looking down at her feet. They had broken up months ago due to not being able to see each other as much as they wanted, but Byul still had the same effect on her she always had. Out of the corner of her eyes she could see Byul mumbling something to herself and trying to fix her workout gear. The mere thought of Byul still feeling nervous around her made Yongsun smile. maybe she wasn't the only one still harbouring feelings.

But that smile didn't last long, a frown taking it's place the second she focused her attention on the blonde's face. Byul’s eyes look exhausted, with heavy dark bags underneath, her usually puffy cheeks seemed smaller and sunken in.

“How about you? What have you been doing?” She asked bitting down on her lower lip nervously.

“Ah…I-I got recruited by the military. I’m starting in a couple weeks, hence the more constant workout.” The blonde girl nodded as her hands played nervously with her phone. "Wouldn't look too good if I got there and couldn't keep up with my team."

They both chuckled at Byul’s cringe, deciding to stop their walk and just enjoy the view. Yongsun sat down on the railing facing the waters while Byul rested her forearms on said railing, their hands almost touching.

“Last I heard from the girl’s was that you were dating one of Hwasa’s friends? The doctor?”

“Huh? Oh. Yeah…no I... it didn’t really work out.” Yongsun smiled at how Byul’s body seemed to relax when she said that. Not sure if she wanted the answer or not she asked anyway “What about you? Did they also try to set you up with someone?”

Byul nodded looking down at her hands, fidgeting with her nails and avoiding looking at Yongsun in the eye.

“I tried to tell them I was fine single, but you know those two. Wheein ended up calling an old friend from her days as a dancer, Seulgi? She’s a good kid but we decided we are much better as friends.”

“Seulgi? I know her and she’s not a dancer, she’s a model Byul-Yi” Yongsun frowned at the mere thought of Byul on a date with the younger girl, the fact that the blonde said it hadn’t worked out didn’t register on her mind.

“She introduced her self as a dancer Yongsun, I’m not going to tell her she’s a model if she doesn’t say it herself.”

“You used to say I should be a model...”

“Well but that’s because it’s not fair to people that you hide your beauty,” Byul said without a second thought, face-palming when she realised. “I mean…You…” Clearing she changed her stance now resting her back on the railing to look at Yongsun without twisting her neck too much.

“It’s ok Byul I know what you mean. So…haven’t been dating anyone?”

“It wouldn't be fair to whoever I dated.”

“Byul-ah…” Yongsun let a tint of hope slip through when Byul looked right into her eyes.

"I would be thinking of you no matter what they did Yeba.”

Byul was looking at her the same way she always had, making a shiver go down Yongsun's spine. She was about to answer the silent question when Byul raised her t-shirt to wipe the sweat on her forehead. A small gasp scaped Yongsun when she took in the sunken in stomach and clearly marked ribs. The taller woman had always been fit, and while it was normal to see her muscles marked and even her floating ribs her whole stomach looked sunken in now.

“Are you eating properly?” She said before she could stop herself, jumping down form the railing to stand in front of the blonde, her fingers tracing the lines of Byul's abdomen. “You are so thin…”

“Ah…I’ve just been working out a lot,” Byul answered with a toothy grin as her skin and muscles reacted to Yongsun’s fingers. “I-I’m ok, just not that hungry lately.”

“You know you've never been able to lie to me…C’mon you need proper food.” Yongsun said grabbing the girls hand, interlacing their fingers out of habit, and dragging her down the street. "How long has it been since you ate like a normal person Byul-yi?"

“Eh...not since we broke up?" Byul tried to joke receiving a glare and a roll of her eyes before Yongsun started walking again pushing her way through the crowd to a nearby restaurant.

As she walked with a determined pace and concentrated look on her face almost daring anyone to try and stand on her way, Yongsun failed to notice Byul’s bright smile as she let the older girl drag her around. Careful not to scare her away Byul walked faster to get to Yongsun’s speed, her fingers tightening around the smaller hand. When Yongsun looked up at her with questioning eyes Byul just looked forward, as if nothing had happened. However the blonde's grin grew when she felt the flight attendant's grin as she leaned her body against Byul's side and hid her face in the blonde's shoulder.
