It depends on the country. I can't say it's this way as badly in the United States as it would be in Asia. It depends on the cultural expectations.

Agreed, but it also depends on the country and the culture whether your parents pressure you more or less. My mom doesn't pressure me that much because she knows my effed up mental health, but she also makes an effort to help me as much as she can. When I was little, she would ask me questions about the exam area and help me remember stuff, but at the same time she doesn't want to push me too much. But then there are parents that I know of, that degrade their children, calling them stupid and all kinds of stuff, mocking them if they happen to get a lower grade than usual. My mom accepts whatever I get, but she'll be upset about bad grades. But she'd never call me names for that.

yes. nowadays it's getting harder to find a job with all the competition, and you need to do more than study and get good grades to gather as many qualifications as possible. most jobs also require at least a bachelor's degree and with more students getting into university over the years, there is pressure to have good grades and get accepted into a good school. sometimes it can also be for parents to show you off to other parents, thus making the pressure more extreme so you won't be a disappointment to them.
