Also I just realized it sounds as if I'm calling you incompetent, especially with that thing about learning a few things about storytelling - I swear I'm not, even the best writer can learn a lot.

It would be one thing if you did it for stylistical choices, but typically switching POVs is a sign of incompetece, sorry for being so blunt. As you said, you're doing it because you realized you can't write this one - 1st person POV is actually very hard to do well, despite its popularity. But you should still stick with it, you might learn a thing or two about storytelling (like new techniques to give info - doesn't have to be by what the character sees; you could even learn that it's nice when the reader is just as confused as the character but that is hard to pull off well)
