I honestly answered as a reader. I know its not fair bc I don't experience what writers do. Its just my opinion after all.

In my opinion it's better to have the ending prepared before writing, the story should have a purpose. I always write what i like but i guess i should try writing for readers, at least for once maybe they like it better that way.

i would hate myself if i didn't finish it but i will never live a happy life is the plot kept hanging in my head...so i just finish it as i plan and of course i'll ask the readers about the quality of my story because i felt like i'm dragging it...

in my opinion if an author cannot write anymore for whatever reason, i think it'd be nice of them to inform the readers of it.
not even apologize but just inform the readers so they wouldn't keep waiting for an update

If you don't feel like writing your story anymore, forcing it out just for the sake of finishing isn't really going to help anything. You'll just make yourself miserable and the story quality will suffer.

I think it's a mix. The author should be happy with what they are writing and if people subscribe and read it, they should try to do their best to finish it. But things happen, and sometimes the story can't be finished. C:
