If you're very descriptive with how the character dies (stabbings, pain felt, blood, wounds, etc.) then yes, it would deserve a trigger warning. Anything that you would consider too much, too sensitive, or too traumatizing to bear picturing in your head while reading is basically what needs a Trigger Warning.
I think for character death, it depends on the way he/she dies. Some people have trauma due to some forms of death from personal experiences in their past. (i.e., my friend walked in on her older brother committing suicide just two years ago. Now, she gets very uncomfortable and fidgety when discussing anything related to death by hanging, particularly if it's self-inflicted.)
