What are your thoughts on advertising?

I was a little curious about this. I see a bunch of fics advertised, but then I sometimes see roleplays or shops advertised? A lot of people also advertise fics without putting out more than just the forward or the first chapter, and I'm reluctant to subscribe. Sometimes I see some people advertise the same fic multiple times when they may have advertised the same fic a week or two ago, so I'm just curious to see any opinions.

I was actually more curious about advertising using karma points through a bid, not on walls

I've tried advertising in the past from an advertising shop so they sent 100 wallposts for my story, I did earn a few subscribers but I don't think it's as effective as one would think. I think when people see ads on their wall, they see it as spam and delete before they even read it.

Oh wait, I have a something else to add with my previous message.

Wall post ads prove that there are some shops out there that just don't know what they're doing, they're doing it only for the karma, and they genuinely do not care if an author wants more readers or not. So if you ever plan to request at an ad shop, make sure they know what they're doing. Lol. It also shows how some people want more peeps to view their stuff, so they do the advertising themselves and post on random walls which isn't the best idea. Haha.

There are many ways to advertise your story on AFF. There's the advertising calendar for bidding where the winner gets their story advertised for a whole day. Then there's the hourly advertisement for blog listings, discussion listings and all tag listings. Last but not least, there are ad shops that people can request at.

I don't always notice the listings ads unless they have an eye-catching poster, and/or include the main pairing in brackets or parentheses in the title. If I see a name I like, I'll automatically read the description. Even if the description isn't hooking, I'll still check out the story. Same goes for the advertising calendar.
If the "story" being advertised is a shop or roleplay, I won't care about it. If I need a shop then I'll find one; sorry if I don't happen to choose yours. Roleplays, sorry, but I don't do roleplaying.

I used to get ads posted on my wall, and I didn't mind it at first, but then I got tired of them b/c most of the time the ad was advertising a story I'm not even one bit interested in. Only once did I receive a wall ad for something I genuinely was interested in. The majority of my reading happens with SNSD fics, but then I'd get wall posts advertising an EXO or BTS fic and I'm just looking at it like -_- and questioning the advertiser, "Boi... how did you find my wall...? I'm not subscribed to an EXO or BTS fanfic, I haven't even clicked on one!" Same goes to roleplay ads. I don't even know what a roleplay is so why are you advertising this to me? I just don't understand.

I don't do it and I get them posted on my wall for quite a few times a month and I just delete them. If I really wanted to read them I would have found them by now already

I don’t really care. They say it works but to me it’s just a waste of karma points lol. The only time I do care is if I get the same ad from the same person on my wall twice or more like bruh, I deleted your wall post the first time, I’m gonna do it again the second time and the third time and if you continue I’ll block you.
