What makes you upvote a story?

Basically what the title says, what makes you click that upvote button?

I normally only upvote a story once it's completely finished or when I'm waiting for an update and absolutely loving it. Requirements for me would probably be quality over quanitity - rather have longer chapters with good overall content instead of rushed small chapters, good plot and well developed characters. I'm not that strict to myself about upvotes though, so I tend to upvote if I just enjoyed the fic as well as I see upvotes as an encouragement. I, personally, as an author here, find getting upvotes and comments one of the best things ^^

So what about you?

@O605__ Yess I understand, you don't want a story to feel flat and plain, right? Emotions play a big role for me as well.

@soosfaerie Ah that's such a lovely view on upvoting, the kind of kick an upvote gives is so nice as an author so I'm sure that when someone receives an upvote even before posting a chapter the kick is immense lmao

I upvote stories that make me feel really strong emotions and are just generally well-written. I usually don't wait until a story is completed to upvote, because I can usually tell if I'll like the rest.

I will upvote a story if i just like anything about it a lot. Sometimes even if there's only description at the moment but it seems like it will be interesting, I'll upvote because of that and to give some support to the author.
I am not very stingy with my votes.
