What do you think of fanfic writers who open up a Patreon?

I have spent many years writing and now, because my financial situation is bad, I was wondering if I could earn a bit from donations. Just for transport fee to school and back home because my country charges a lot for transport fee (2 meals per day uwaaa). I don't want to force people to donate by telling them my situation, so I was wondering if it would be okay to open up a Patreon. I know it is illegal to sell fanfiction but I was wondering if it is okay if I just open up a Patreon and let people donate if they want to, give original works perhaps as rewards. If your favorite writer does that, do you think he/she is very money-minded or he/she is too arrogant? That he/she thinks their works are so good and they should get money for it? Or maybe they are exploiting the fanbase to earn money?

I am scared also that if I provide original works as rewards, it may not be good enough and I am not giving my Patreons value for their money.

I do not want to make my readers feel bad. I also feel like donating per month is too much but Patreon only allows that I think. T - T Do you think it is unethical?

I think I would only pay if the writer was really good and had some original story lines. I don't think it's unethical because the writer is also working hard to make the stories. Some people might argue that it might be unethical because fanfiction is usually based on something (like a celebrity/song/AU) but you aren't necessarily buying the book, only supporting the author and so I don't think that breaks any rule or anything. It's like supporting people on patreon who do music covers on youtube. Also, I don't think it's exploiting the fanbase, instead, you would be smart to choose this option. If you write good stories and you know you have a strong audience who would like to support you, it's very smart if you choose patreon.
