I need honest opinions on this please

Okay so, I'm a new writer here on this site and 2 months ago I started writing my first story in English that is a Sebaek fanfic. I'm writing it simply because I had an idea and lots of free time, but during the last few days something has been bothering me. I'm not a native English speaker but I've been learning it for quite some time and I don't have any spelling issues and I'm actually very good at writing when it comes to my own language. I know I don't make any major mistakes but I'm concerned about getting tenses mixed up often. I really don't wanna get a beta reader because the story I'm writing is for fun and I'm still exploring my writing style and fanfics in general. Do you think fanfics like this are bad fanfics? Does mixing up tenses at times make it sound bad? Even now I'm not sure if I made mistakes and if I did where exactly, oops. Anyway, all opinions are appreciated!!

Well I gave your book a try and you English to me seems pretty good and the story is also really interesting. I'd suggest you keep practicing writing in English and don't be afraid of making mistakes! After all, that's how we learn, right?

U are not alone! I'm not a native english speaker too and I have the same problem as you, but I'm trying my best to please my readers. I'm sure they will appreciate the effort we put in our work!

I'm an American, and I can assure you that we often mix up our tenses as well, even in daily conversation. It may be a little confusing in some instances, but very rarely does it actually interfere with the flow of the story, in my experience. As others have said, there are worse grammatical errors. So, as long as you're having fun and enjoying what you're writing, then I don't see the problem with it.

Don't worry. I'm not a native speaker either and I mix up tenses, too. I try not to but there are so many exceptions in tenses and I get confused sometimes. And from what I've noticed during all these years talking to Americans, they mess up, too. There are far worse grammatical mistakes than this.

@Korekrypta I completely agree on that, I've read quite a few fanfics where the author makes so many tense slips that even I lose the motivation to read the whole thing. I'm gonna tell my readers about this with hope that they'll help me in a way. Thank you! :)

I don't really mind mistakes too much when it comes to fanfiction. Sure it's easier to read if everything's correct, but if I'm enjoying reading a fic, then the tenses aren't really on my mind :)

Speaking from a grammatical point of view, mixing up tenses can be confusing. It depends how often it happens, though. If it's only a couple of tense slips per chapter, most people won't even notice, but if it's multiple times per paragraph, it might be off-putting. If you let your readers know that this might happen and ask them to point out any places they see it, things should be fine!

To be honest, I can think of worse mistakes to make in terms of grammar, and I'm a pretty picky reader. Learning a language is an ongoing and cumulative process, so as long as you don't allow yourself to get too disheartened when or if people point out mistakes, I think you'll be okay :) And kudos to you for having the courage to write and post in a language that isn't your native language!

not a native speaker too but in the case of english language, tenses matter a lot. mess them up a bit and the whole meaning can go awry. even i still make such errors because honestly, there are too many tenses cases to remember hahahah. but then again as long as everything is comprehensible and you are constantly learning, i don't think this is a big problem. i've seen authors who used to make mistakes all the time but over time they get to structure everything perfectly. the key here is to always learn and learn, and most importantly, don't afraid to make mistakes!

i can't speak for everyone but in my opinion, messing up tenses isn't that big of a deal. reading your post here, it sounds like your english is perfect. i get more put off when the english doesn't make sense, but yours seems to make perfect sense so stop worrying! ^^
