Personal Rant about Lab Partners

This is just my personal frustration. Lol.

I've been partnered up with two girls for my Chemistry lab. God knows how frustrated I am with their attitudes during lab session T-T. Can you imagine doing almost all the work? On EVERY session, I'll be the one assembling the apparatus and materials for the experiment. They will chat in THEIR OWN LANGUAGE (their languages are different from mine but three of us can speak English for sure). If I don't start first, then nobody will.

Then, one of them will always complete the lab report that is DUE ON THAT DAY when we are supposed to do the experiment. I mean, it's due TODAY so, I suppose you should do it BEFORE class?! I'm really frustrated with them. Sometimes, they are helpful but most of the times, I feel like I'm doing the experiment by myself. Also, I saw that they copy down data and answers from somebody's lab report (possibly their friend who has taken the class before). I'm really disappointed. It feels like the experiment that we do is just a waste because they won't be using the data anyway. :((

One time, they are arguing in their own language. They are raising voices and stuff while I'm on the side needing help for someone to hold a test tube :') Most of the times, they speak in their language. I will not do that in front of someone who doesn't understand me, especially during lab. I myself hate it when people talk in a language I don't understand and expect me to be able to join the flow of the conversation like WTF. We are in a group and all of us can speak English. Mind speaking English just during this lab session? >:(

I just need to rant somewhere lol. Do you have any lab stories? Hehe..

we had to do a pulse propagation experiment and my lab partners (aka hoes) started playing with the slinky -.- one of them was on the verge of smacking the other's with that slinky

I remember this one time in my Design and Model class, the two people I partnered up with didn't do any work either. It was so annoying because not only did they not do work, they wasted time looking at memes. ing M E M E S. Holy crap, I was so pissed. They didn't contribute to the research, their designs were off, heck, the lines that they were drawing weren't even straight. Even though I had to physically hand the ruler to them, their measurements were off and all in all, I was so frustrated. The teacher had given us an outline to follow and a video explaining how to do the project but, surprise, surprise! They didn't bother to look at it and observe it. In the end I just had to take the entire project in my hands 'cause I wasn't about to let my grades slip. I'm so happy that it's done and over with.

For chem lab, I'm partnered up with a girl and a guy. The guy is okay, I guess. He is capable enough to handle certain parts of the experiment and he usually succeeds. The girl, however, she is a mess. I'm not sure whether it's because she doesn't prepare herself for the lab--like, not even reading the lab manual or AT LEAST knowing what kind of experiment we're doing on that day. Can you imagine entering the lab without knowing what the experiment on that day is? Can't relate.

I'd have given little no none damn only if she doesn't slow us down. We only have two hours of lab and at least thirty minutes of it are gonna be used to analyze the data and frankly, having her around makes it harder for us to run the experiment smoothly. She keeps forgetting what kind of solution we're gonna use or what the next step is and I'm just like??? Okay, so you're only gonna read the lab manual now?? Instead of before you enter the lab?? Girl, there's no time for that when the instruction says that we have to pour another solution into the boiling tube IMMEDIATELY. One time, we had to repeat an experiment all over again because she skipped one step. Disastrous.

I'm glad that our chem lab for this sem is already over.

@queenlisa ikr. a classmate of mine went back home halfway through the lab. he barely did anything. btw, it's getting better. they've started to help a bit but the speaking-in-their-own-language still irks me a bit :/

@-roselynn- Wow. NaOH and HCl are two completely different chemicals. But yeah, there are labels on the bottles. It's an effing laboratory. It clearly showed how excited your lab partner was to do experiments XD

@user3981 omg. i feel bad for you. organic chemistry must be very hard. i'm taking general chemistry and i'm floating like a fish already. XD

Though I would suggest that you mention your obvious frustration to your teacher if no positive changes occur.

I'm a laboratory technician and trust me, there will always be egocentric s everywhere.

You should give them a piece of your mind honestly. Just go ahead and tell them they should speak English so you can understand them too, if not suggest them changing partners because you cant put up with their . Man Im triggered.

I see chemistry

I get triggered.

Honestly, I had this one lab partner who couldn't read the labels properly and mistook NaOH for HCl??? Wtf??? I know they look similar in appearance BUT THEY HAD LABELS MATE. Anyways, our entire experiment got fked over and we ended up having to pour 12 M HCl to neutralize the solution smh I didn't even know my partner grabbed the one wrong tbh.

damn thats awful :/
i know how hard it is to work on lab alone cos my partner suddenly wanted to change his course halfway and i have to do like 4 experiment by myself :/
and it was an organic chemistry lab course x.x
so many equipments to set up, so many things to prepare and do with limited time x.x

hang in there pal, you can do it! ^^/
