Unpopular opinion time - Rants Welcome

Time to voice your unpopular opinions and rants! I want to hear them all! It can be about anything - from aff, kpop, kpop groups, Donald Trump, real life issues - anything!

This should be a safe place - please no bashing each other - I just want to know what you guys (really) think about.

My unpopular opinion -

Not really digging most of the upvoted stories these days - the past few have been ok, but honestly before that I just think - how - how did this get story get so popular. I'm not a writer myself and I'm not good at English but, from the plot holes, the grammar, and the cliches.. I just.. idk...

Anyway! That was my unpopular opinion, please kindly share yours ;) No judgement!

i have a new point to say. i'm sure we all have experienced some writers advertise their own story to me. if one advertise it on my wall, i'll check it out and what happens depend on the story. however, i'll still delete the ad (even if i subscribe to the story, but that never happens so far) because i don't like ads on my wall.

the thing is... i don't really favor it when the writers advertise their story but then, i can clearly see that the story is not presentable enough to be advertised yet. for example, the fonts are not consistent, the alignment is still sh*tty, the description is still not done, the first chapter is still not posted yet, etc. i'll be like... "you expect me to read the story when it's not bringing a good impression." idk. i just... stahpp. poor story presentation is my pet peeve :(

- would like to remind people not to get salty after someone has expressed their opinion - This is an UNPOPULAR opinion discussion. Obviously, there's going to be things you don't agree with, please try to restrain yourself from starting an arguement. I will ban those who do. Discussion is fine, arguing is not. Thank you

@FrozenInside Ugh I totally understand how you feel, for me it was with BAP - They were all strong and cool and had a awesome hip-hop sound and then suddenly. ... Gone. .. all these ballads and pop music.. I was really disappointed tbh :/ I don't even listen to theut music anymore now.

@FrozenInside All artists experiment. They try out different things in each album because believe it or not keeping the same sound is not exactly a smart move. It certainly does , especially if you prefer one, but they have to experiment and try new things in order to get a wider audience and appeal to different people. It's part of being an artist, especially a musician.

@--Skye-- Ah, sorry. I've met a lot of people who are rude to me because they're judging all french people on Parisians (I'm from Qubec myself) so I got a bit defensive. Unfortunately most people these days seem to judge wholes based on one person or experience so I admit I've taken to doing the exact same thing. I apologize that you had so many bad situations in France, I personally quite enjoy visiting the countryside but to each their own ^^

@experimentallyexotic I've been to France 6 times (courtesy of my mum who loves the country). Once to Paris, onc to cote de azur and 4 times to the countryside. it all . ive given em plenty of chances but nothing will change my opinion. I wouldn't have this much angered hate without a reason my dude.

@MinnieBlue It's already posted so it's fine. I understand it's the frustration of waiting for a poster.

I kinda wanna rant about my favorite group, BTS. I got into them because of their passion for Rap and that really fascinated me. All their albums until Dark & Wild you could feel the Hip-Hop influence and it made me love them more everytime because they were doing what they like. But now they're onto some other stuffs talking about lost love, and butterfly and forever young and!???? Their music used to have meaning and they were talking about the hardship of going to school N.O, We Are Bulletproof and No More Dream. But now literally they lost all of that because they are trying to be artistic? That's why I was following and now they're just becoming this mainstream group with the excessive fan services. With V trying to hard to be different, 4D and funny. It's just so annoying. I want the old them back ;-;

@experimentallyexotic Kind of took the words out of my mouth on this point, haha. I do agree that to each their own when it comes to anything, really, but seeing people ship members of the same group to such lengths sometimes makes me feel a bit uncomfortable. Although that was probably the case when I was new to the K-pop group shipping thing. Nowadays? Not so much. It's so common I may as well have gotten used to seeing it, but there are still the few instances that surprise me or introduce me to a whole new world of ship. Sadly, though, the overenthusiastic shippers in particular fandoms have made me pull away from interacting with other fans, and sometimes even take out the joy of simply admiring a group for what it is/who they are. Sigh.
Also, fun fact! This is probably the first time I've ever used the word 'ship' in this context so many times.

I've gotten to this point where I'm very, very frustrated and done with people who are coming forward and complaining about people who read about their bias groups. It feels like they think people should read an entirely different group just for them - like, no, people wanna read about their fav idols. It's FANfiction for a reason. So many folks have just been complaining, and seriously, the pairing or people you use are not the only thing that matters. The title matters, description, the plot, grammar and lots of other things. People are not obligated to read your story because you're not getting enough attention. Let people read what they want to read.

Another thing that's been annoying me - people complaining about no comments/silent readers. Yes, not getting comments can be disheartening. I actually just commented this on another discussion, HOWEVER, I did not add that you should be writing for yourself, not for other people. I write because it makes me happy, and these people coming forward complaining about this sh*te literally seem like they're only here to gain attention. It's also annoying when authors go and threaten their readers, saying things like comment or else I won't update and stuff like that. Then, they throw a hissy fit when they comment but it's not what they want and instead put things like "please update". Don't threaten them and expect feedback, man. It doesn't work like that. Also, authors that do that and don't reply to their comments. That annoys me, it really does. Also, just because someone is a silent reader doesn't mean they don't like your story. Some people are shy, alright? Replying to their comments will encourage them to comment more - that's what happened to me. That's what has happened to lots of other people, too. Just look at some bigger authors that reply to their comments - they get a sh*tload each chapter! Why? Because the readers know that the feedback their giving and their opinions aren't going unnoticed. It certainly makes me happy when an author takes the time out of their day to reply back. So why not take five minutes out of your time to say a simple thank you.

@FrozenInside Yes, I was thinking that too, might be a bit toooo obvious. Currently wondering if I should ask her to reword her argument to avoid feelings being hurt.

@FrozenInside Ignorance is bad enough and there exists homophobic people on AFF. I don't think it's hidden that deep in the LGBT+ community - but that said; I still wish people would write more of it on AFF. ^-^ I see those posts but they're few and far in between - and when it's in the social it doesn't /really/ create a story with a non-binary character. Because there aren't really readers for those stories on AFF. So it's an evil circle. ^^ I read on both tumblr and AO3 but it doesn't leave out the fact that I wish AFF would have more. ^-^

@MissMinew I don't really think it's about them being homophobic but more about them not knowing ? It's not until you get really deep into trying to learn about the LGBT+ community that you start to learn about people not going by "he" pronouns or "she" pronouns. There's also those posts about non-binary people. So yeah if you really aren't actively looking you won't know. But AO3 is a good place if you wanna read more stories like that.

@--Skye-- Okay Parisians are s, I'll give you that, even French people hate Paris, but have you actually /been/ to the rest of France? Nice is absolutely stunning, and the countryside in general is very nice. I mean I hated my trip to Barcelona but I wouldn't say that everywhere in Spain is a total nightmare where people try to sell you drugs and steal your wallet, you know? It's one city, not the whole country.

Not really an unpopular opinion as such, but I'm just very sad that AFF is so close minded when it comes to characters that aren't a binary gender. I'll admit that I don't read every story out there and that I'm a little picky but ... gender neutral pronouns seem to not exist on this website and it's a rarity that I even find a trans-character, let alone a non-binary babe. Idk, I just wish we could .... get over the homophobia-laced "gay is good because it's my ship but when it's no longer my ship it's disgusting". It's .... *sighs* Just sad. (Also - more genderbended characters, pls AFF.)

i hate france. overrated country. too romanticized (esp the language -- its so ugly stop pretending its romantic). the people are rude and unfriendly and ARROGANT!!! paris isnt even that beautiful of a city and the weather is crap most of the time. if u are thinking of going there for some kind of ~sensual europe trip~ dont waste your time and go to italy/spain instead. also the food is crap. french people dont know how to cook (especially for vegetarians/vegans). the only good thing they have in france is disneyland.

@mirrue *in a pirate's voice* Where does your ship make berth? I must know.

I adore KaihleeLo from BLK's review. Then there are a couple of agents from Asianfanfics Anonymous Agency, but they're, well, anonymous. And I readily admit that most of these agents don't stand out to me. Librarian and Southwest from The Library. That's all I can think of for now.

@Unni_OnTaeHolic I don't know if you would apply the same standards to reviewers outside of AFF, but book blogs and Goodreads set the standards of "I don't have to be a writer to know what I'm talking about." I disagree with the parallel between good writer = good reviewer. You shouldn't have to flaunt your own private work to prove your qualifications. If you're an active and critical reader, you are exposed to writing/genre/etc and that qualifies you to have your own judgment. Besides, all reviews are subjective and nothing is grounded as absolute "good" or "bad" writing tips. (Except guides about diseases and trauma. Y'll insensitive humans better know what you're writing about.) You can be a well-respected reviewer first before you become a slight successful writer who recycles the very same sh*t you reviewed. (Yes, this is aimed at Goodreads reviewers-turned-YA-Fantasy-authors.)

With that said and done, I do, however, like experienced reviewers. They don't have to be experienced writers.

I think my least popular opinion, of many unpopular opinions, is the fact that I think romantically shipping groupmates is just weird and invasive. These are actual people you guys, and it's one thing to coo over a confirmed couple, but when I see fans freaking out over how "such-and-such couple is real!" it just makes me uncomfortable. I mean, I guess idols signed up to be treated like merchandise but that doesn't really make me any more comfortable with it? I know I would be extremely uncomfortable if a ton of people were constantly talking about how I was totally secretly dating/sleeping with someone I worked with. I mean even if I was friends with them - which isn't necessarily the case with coworkers - I'm your standard straight person who is a little weirded out by the idea of dating my own gender. I'm fine with other people doing it, I just wouldn't personally. I dunno. Shipping is fine as long as you don't get too insistent that it's actually true I guess is the short of it. These are people, not puppets.
