EDITED

As the cold chilling breeze of winter swept the streets of Seoul, the sun peeked above the mountains. It was that time of year. The temperature dropped below thirty degrees Fahrenheit and people could no longer walk out with shorts and a light jacket. Instead, people were consumed by big jumpers, comfortable sweatpants, colorful beanies, and warm scarves.

Taeyeon pulled her car into the parking lot and parked at her designated spot. Sunny stepped out of the car and headed straight for the front door, unlocking it for Taeyeon to bring in their necessities. The fresh smell of steaming rice filled the restaurant as their coworkers started coming in one by one. The clock struck nine and everyone was already busy preparing for the long day ahead. Thirty minutes left until the restaurant opened. Taeyeon and the rest of her sous chefs in the kitchen took the pre-seasoned meat out of the big stainless steel refrigerators and began preparing.

Sunny and the other waitresses mopped the floor, readied the tables and made sure everything was ready and presentable so they didn't look bad. Sunny went to the door and flipped the sign. She looked through the door onto the streets outside and took in a deep breath to start off the day. Another great day to earn some money. She smiled and stood behind the podium. Not long after, customers started coming in and seating themselves.

As the day went by Sunny remained bright and smiling while Taeyeon busily cooked the various orders coming through. Customers started to slow which indicated that the lunch rush has passed. Taeyeon cooked her own meal and sat at one of the tables along with two of her sous chefs while the other stayed in the kitchen to cook the few remaining orders. They happily ate their meals until a young man dressed in a nice black business suit walked in. Taeyeon paid no attention and continued to munch on her food. Sunny went up and greeted him.

"Welcome. Table for one?" Sunny asked as she held a menu in her right arm.

"Oh no. I'm not here to eat. I'm actually here to meet someone." He apologized.

"Oh…" she answered awkwardly."Who might that be then?"

"Is Kim Taeyeon here?" he asked politely.

"Yes. Please wait here." She bowed and went to Taeyeon. He looks familiar.

Taeyeon was oblivious as to what was going on. Since she had a long day, her potential brother visiting her slipped into the back of her mind. She took a bite of her noodles until Sunny came up to her. With noodles still hanging out of , she cutely looked up. Sunny smiled at her silly girlfriend and pushed Taeyeon's chin up, telling her to finish chewing. Taeyeon, of course, obliged. After she finished swallowing, she wiped and stood up.

"What's up?" Taeyeon went over to Sunny.

"There's someone who wants to speak with you." Sunny nudged her head over to the man standing at the front door.

"For what?"

"I don't know. Just said he needed to speak with you," she shrugged.

"Okay," she turned back to the table. "Leeteuk. Take over for me."

"Yes Boss!" he stood up and bowed.

"Be right back," she gave a quick kiss on Sunny's cheek and made her way across the restaurant towards the man. She stood in front of him and they bowed.  "You wanted to speak with me?" she asked.

"You don't recognize me? He said.

"No, am I supposed to?" she looked at him with a tilted eyebrow.

"Sooyoung told you I was visiting right?" he tried to clarify.

As soon as he spoke Sooyoung's name, her face became pale. It seemed as if all life was away, leaving a lifeless corpse to remain in her place. She instantly remembered about his visit. The cheery and dorky chef disappeared, being replaced with the rare spiteful and hateful Kim Taeyeon.

"W-why are you here?" She demanded and looked at him with daggers in her eyes.

"There are things I need to ask from you," he answered her casually.

"Come with me." Taeyeon led him around the building and stopped when she reached the parking lot. She wanted to keep this conversation unheard from Sunny. She looked at him accusingly and spoke. "What do you want?"

"Oh come on, is that how you greet your brother who you haven't seen in sixteen years?" He complained.

"You're not my brother." Her voice was colder than ice. It pierced through the winter air, straight to his ears.

"Look, I'm really sorry about what happened sixteen years ago but it's not my fault," he tried to reason with her, "I'm only a year older than you, how could you point fingers at me and treat me like a piece of ?" He looked at her with saddened eyes.

"It makes no difference to me," she sneered.

"I came because dad needs you, I need you, we all need you." He put a hand on her arm.

She coldly swatted the foreign object off of her. "You guys should have realized that sixteen years ago." Her hands were in fists.

"He wants to meet you. He wants to talk it all out. That’s all he wants," he paused and yearned for his little sister. "Will you agree to meet him?"

Taeyeon hated him. She wanted to run away and abandon the situation at hand but she couldn’t bring herself to move. She stared at him looking for answers, looking for any sign of dishonestly but she couldn't find any. Then, yesterday night's walk back home came to mind.

"If it really is him, I don't want to be associated with them at all." She tilted her head towards Hyoyeon's and let it rest. She felt disheartened.

"Family is still family, Tae. You can't hate them forever." Hyoyeon playfully knocked her head on Taeyeon's.

"Then what about yours huh?" she sighed. "They're not my family. You are. You're the only family I have." Taeyeon looked at Hyoyeon with saddened eyes.

"I don't even remember who my family is let alone care for them." Hyoyeon gave a comforting smile. "You're the only family I have too. So whatever you decide, I'll help you in whatever way I can."

What are you going to do Taeyeon? She asked herself. She decided to be the bigger person. Though she will never forgive what had happened years ago, she gave herself the right to know the reason.  She sighed and finally decided to answer. "To talk, only to talk."

A smiled that reached both sides of his face appeared. His eyes twinkled in joy after hearing the very words that left . Good. That's all I needed. Father will be happy. "That’s great! Get packed and I'll come pick you up here at the same time." He said happily.

"Wait, hold up. You said nothing about needing to stay overnight." She accused him.

"We live in Jeonju. That's like four hours away from here. You can't expect to go there and come back in one day." He explained.

She balled up her fists once again and mentally cursed at him. "Fine, but I am NOT staying with you people."

"But—"

"I don't give a . We're not family. You expect me to spend a whole night with you people? You think I'm insane?" Taeyeon looked at him with the same daggered eyes, her anger rising again.

"Fine fine." He put his hands up in defense. "I'll pick you

Chapter 50: WHY IS THIS SO GOOD? I know why, because you are an amazing writer who only gets better with each chapter and your progression of the story was very much more believable than most stories in which "they got together after first sight". You developed the characters and gave them their flaws and their strengths and how that translated into the story was amazing. It looks like Punch could be an entire spinoff/sequel story on its own, but I feel content with you not doing a sequel and that's a good thing. Its one thing to leave your readers wanting more, but to do that AND make them feel content without more is a weird paradox you accomplished. Your writing style is not the most sophisticated or fancy, but its one that allows for many readers to enjoy simply, but has enough complexity to make it leave no questions unanswered. I loved this story and can't wait to read more from you
