06 The Same
Bittersweet CaptureBeing worked so hard for four consecutive days finally took its toll on Miyoung. She found herself growing weaker since every job had to be done so well to outdo the last. The mansion’s size was so overwhelming that it took all of her energy to just clean it. To make sure that everything was perfect, took on additional energy that she just did not have.
It didn’t make things better that she was having trouble sleeping at night due to the cell that was called her bedroom. It was incredible that she even made it so far. She got frequent headaches and had trouble standing sometimes. Other times, she found herself to be short of breath that she had to take the time to sit down. Of course, she didn’t reveal this weaker side of her to the boys, much to her detriment.
“Someone, call Lu Han down here!” a sudden loud voice echoed from below the floor, “I’m not convinced! Explain to me why I’m no good as his wife?”
The voice was high-pitched which indicated the speaker’s gender as female and the words spoken indicated some rich young lady that was nominated to be Lu Han’s wife at some point. Miyoung watched as Lu Han, Daehyun, followed by Sehun all headed down the stairs. She followed too, but quietly as to not disturb the visitor.
“Who are you again?” Lu Han raised an eyebrow, looking at her indifferently.
Daehyun tilted his head a bit, “…I think the 58th one?”
Sehun shook his head, “I don’t think so. She’s probably the 83rd one.”
“I’m the 96th one!” she declared, obviously infuriated by the fact that the boys did not remember her at all, “and I’ve got all the qualifications to marry into this family and more! Education, status, and the looks – I’ve got it all!”
Hearing those words come from the lady’s mouth, Miyoung couldn’t help but feel like it reminded her of a certain someone. Pausing for a moment, she continued to think about who it could possibly be. However, she couldn’t quite put her tongue on it.
Stepping beside Sehun, the one who had been the most gentle with her out of the three boys, she mumbled under her breath, “…Um. Who is she?”
“Ah, she’s one of the fiancées our father sent here,” Sehun replied nonchalantly, “She likes money and is quite the spendthrift, so we chased her away on the second day here. It was quite obvious she only wanted to get involved with us because of our riches.”
Miyoung gazed at the girl from head to toe, discovering all the accessories she was wearing. The earrings that hung from her ears were a part of a limited-edition collection, her clothes seemed to be custom-made, the purse on her shoulder being one of a kind, and more. Everything about her screamed ‘spendthrift’ like Sehun had said.
“Don’t I suit the part more than this idiot-looking, country bumpkin?” she demanded, the moment she caught Miyoung standing by Sehun, and realized no one was answering her.
“Who do you think you’re calling a country bumpkin?” Miyoung bitterly smiled, trying to be polite.
However, she could not stop the urge of wanting to take the spotlight and reveal to the unladylike visitor that she, herself, was once a rich lady just like her. Just because her family had gotten into a little trouble, it did not mean that she could be looked down upon so easily.
Before the girl could reply to Miyoung’s comment, Lu Han held up his hand, “…Fine. How much money do you desire?”
“The rejection was an insult to me,” the girl’s expression changed as she spoke smugly, “so an appropriate amount of compensation should be given. That’s a given.”
Without speaking another word, Lu Han reached into his pocket, pulling out a blank check, “Write the amount you want on the check then. In exchange, never show your face around here anymore.”
Miyoung stared at the exchange of words before her. Words could not explain how she felt about the two of them. With every inch the boy reached over to hand the lady a check, Miyoung couldn’t help but clench her fist tighter. She finally realized who the lady reminded her of. Without hesitating, she grabbed a bucket of water she was using to clean the mansion and dumped every last drop against the two.
“Yah!” the lady screeched, “The check! My clothes! What do you think you are doing? You !”
“…Miyoung?” Sehun muttered in surprise.
Daehyun sighed, shaking his head, “I always knew she was a little crazy.”
However, the glares being sent from the lady and Lu Han did not scare her one bit. She found herself dropping the empty bucket on the ground, swaying a bit from left to right. The annoyance and slight anger built up inside of her and she found her heart racing due to the massive amount of emotions being released in the split second.
Before Lu Han could say anything to her, Miyoung gave Lu Han a pitiful look, “Are you stupid? Can’t you see anything beside money? It does not solve everything!”
“You don’t know anything!” Lu Han practically growled at her, “It’s solved everything for me – ”
“Someone whose actions are completely based off of the spending and receiving of money,” Miyoung interrupted him, radiating confidence in her own words, “Aren’t you the same as the people you hate, then? Money, it can’t possibly be the most important thing to you, right?”
As the words spilled from Miyoung’s heart, the swaying of her body didn’t get any better. Lu Han, hearing those words, looked absolutely stunned. His eyes, unblinking, became unable to look away from the woman in front of him. Perhaps, he thought, she was different, but everything around him seemed to lose value and importance the moment Miyoung’s eyes rolled to the back of her head, causing her to fall over, fainting.
His hand reached out, his voice loud, full of worry, “MIYOUNG!”
