Chapter 46 : Working with Sana
Jinho's Story27 October 2016 (Thursday), 11 a.m.
Me and Sana are filming a CF for Myeongdong Tonkatsu.
I've heard so much about this restaurant, but I've never actually been here before. They say it's the first restaurant in Korea to serve Japanese-style pork cutlets, with over 30-years of history. Currently, the shop is closed for the filming. Me and Sana are sitting next to each other as many other people are prepping their equipments.
The concept of the CF was simple. Sana would drag me into the restaurant, make me try one of their pork cutlets, and I would suddenly speak in Japanese to show my satisfaction. We're aiming for a 'one take', so we sat together to practice our lines.
Sana : Come on! Try it!
Jinho : Is it really that good?
Sana : It's the best!
I stopped there and gave her my opinion on our acting.
Jinho : The lines seem very lackluster. We might have to try a drama-like acting.
Sana : How?
Jinho : You know... like a scene where the couple eat together. They try to act sweet to each other. Less cute.
Sana : So you want us to act like a couple?
I giggled at how she said it. I wonder if she sees it differently than I do.
Jinho : Let's emphasize on the word 'act'. Besides, our managers are here.
Sana : Of course! Let's be professional about it. So, do you want to try again?
Jinho : Okay. Let's do it again!
We walked out of the restaurant and stood a few feet away by the sidewalk. The first scene in the CF would be the two of us walking as we unknowingly reach in front of the restaurant.
As we reached the starting point, we tried to get suited for our new approach.
Jinho : I think we have to hold hands or something.
Sana : Okay.
She gave me her left hand and I took it with my right hand. She immediately walked ahead, dragging me along. I guess we've started.
Sana : Oppa, look! It's Myeongdong Tonkatsu!
We stopped in front of the store as I stared at the restaurant sign.
Jinho : Myeongdong... Tonkatsu?
Sana : Oppa, have you never been here before?
Jinho : I don't think so.
She came closer to me and held my hand with both of her hands.
Sana : Let's eat here! You can try it!
I looked at her with a smile.
Jinho : Anything for you, baby.
After we walked into the restaurant, we let go of our hands.
Jinho : I think that was pretty good.
Sana : Me too. Let's go practice the second scene.
Jinho : Okay.
27 October 2016 (Thursday), 11.30 a.m.
After a number of practice runs, we finally began filming. We completed the first scene and proceeded to the second scene. An employee in front of us served two plates of pork cutlets and two bowls of rice.
She took a bite first and gave a splendid reaction. It was almost natural.
Jinho : Delicious?
She looked at me and cutely nodded.
Jinho : I'm glad.
Sana : Come on! Try it!
I turned to look at my plate.
Jinho : Is it really that good?
Sana : It's the best!
I acted like I was curious. I took a slice of the tenderloin and took a bite of it with the rice. I smiled as I chewed the food slowly. This was the moment where I should speak my Japanese lines, but my smile was so big, I ended up giggling.
Producer : Cut!
Jinho : I'm so sorry! I don't know why I did that!
Sana : Are you okay?
Jinho : Yes, I'm okay. I must have thought about something funny. I'm good now!
We filmed the scene again, only for me to laugh again.
Jinho : I'm so sorry!
Producer : It's okay, Jinho-ssi. It's normal to make mistakes. They make for great behind-the-scenes moments. Let's take five, everyone.
We were given a 5-minute break. Sana asked me what was wrong.
