This Ain't It
Four Times Around The SunThe huge doors of the old palace-like building opened and a sense of familiarity engulfed the petite blonde who stood stiff behind it. A long crisp red carpet was laid in front of her, covering the entire walkway which was adorned with various pink and white flowers towards the altar. The church interior was well-lit with the many sparkling chandeliers hanging from the high ceiling, as if it were solely installed just for this special day. On the sides were flawlessly furnished wooden benches that were almost fully filled with audience - family, friends, and colleagues who are witnesses of the vows that will be exchanged a few minutes from that moment. All were on their feet, eyes fixed at the newly opened door at the back, waiting in anticipation for the entourage.
It wasn't the first time that Kim Minjeong was greeted with such a huge crowd, in fact, that wasn't even her biggest audience, but the nervousness she felt when she realized all the eyes were fixed in awe - and shock - on her the moment the church doors opened was incomparable to the jitters she felt every time she performed on a large arena. Was it cold feet? She doesn't know. All she knows is that the day has finally come, just as she used to imagine before, when she will walk down the aisle of that very church she promised she would marry her even if circumstances will always deem it impossible.
The first note from the piano echoed within the many corners of the cathedral and Minjeong - clad in a white, long, simple yet elegant dress - briefly closed her eyes to try to calm her nerves, wishing that the current erratic beating of her heart would just stop. She inhaled deeply, taking in the sweet scent of the flowers that filled the entire church.
This is it, Minjeong-ah, your most awaited day, this is finally it, she thought.
The blonde woman took her first step on the neat carpet carefully, trying to balance herself on her high heels - or so she convinced herself that it wasn't because of the overwhelming surge of emotions that's raging within her that moment rendering her rather dizzy. She smiled and tightened her grip on her bouquet. Every step felt like her heart beat twice faster and the adoring stares of the crowd - familiar and unfamiliar - weren't helping. She inhaled sharply and let her mind bring her back to the day she first set foot on that place with her as she mindlessly continued to make her way towards the altar front.
"Come on, Minjeong-ah! We will just be quick! You promised to accompany me the whole day today" a pout followed after the whine by the jet black-haired woman on the passenger seat.
"I know but what am I gonna do there? You can just go alone and I can wait for you here in the car" the short-haired younger woman argued.
"Yah! Of course we will pray! What else are you gonna do inside a church?" the older one exclaimed.
"But I don't know how to pray!"
"That is why we are here for me to teach you!"
The younger girl sighed in defeat and she let the older one drag her out of the car and into the empty old church. They took their seat on the right side midway facing the altar and then the taller woman kneeled, not forgetting to drag the sulking petite girl beside her to do the same.
Clasping her hands together and bowing her head, the religious woman closed her eyes and breathed deeply.
"Just follow me and talk to Him. Tell Him whatever you want to say to Him like when you're talking to me. You can thank Him, rant, or even wish anything to Him." she whispered.
Sighing, Minjeong followed suit but not without admiring the side-profile of the girl praying beside her. She has never been religious having been brought up that way but being put in a team with Karina, their group's oldest and leader who was a devout Catholic, influenced her to have faith. Despite her protests on the exterior, it has been a while since she learned how to pray to the Divinity albeit secretly - thanking the heavens for letting them meet and wishing - pleading - to whoever is listening to he
