fishbowl.
Description
They say there's someone out there for everyone. That there's plenty of fish in the sea. However, Byun Baekhyun wasn't as lucky as everyone else. Instead, he was a hopeless romantic that would do anything to find his significant other. Even if that meant lying about his entire life
Foreword
He looked at his new old fashioned and wondered how he had gotten here. Things weren’t supposed this way, at least not for him. So as he took another sip of his drink, the burning liquid ran down his throat. However, before he could savour the smokey taste of the bourbon, he heard a knocking next to him. Looking around the upscale sky bar, he took a deep sigh before realizing it was no use in ignoring the man next to him.
Turning to his side, he looked at the man who’s piercing eyes connected with his. He watched as they analyzed him before darkening a bit. It was his friend’s born talent. He was able to know exactly how to handle people based on their body language. It was one of the reasons why he was the first of their friends to get married.
“Baek, there are plenty of women out there.” He began as Baekhyun took in a deep sigh and leaned back in the bar stool. However, his other friend to his right also had something to add, “Plus, you dated some middle class girl. Did you think it would really work out? It’s not like dramas.” Chanyeol’s words were sharp but true. He’s right. Did I expect to be her white knight? Baekhyun thought as he took another sip of his drink.
Suho, on the other hand, hissed through his teeth as he tried to do damage control over Chanyeol’s insensitive remarks. Looking at Baekhyun, he couldn’t help but feel some type of pity. There was nothing the man was lacking in. He was good looking, smart, caring, funny, and came from an amazing family. However, Baekhyun’s one downfall was that he was too busy being perfection that he just believed the world was meant to be that way. He was so hopelessly romantic that he loved so purely he just expected it from everyone else.
“What he’s trying to say, is that maybe it would be a bit easier to date those in your social standing. People can get very blinded by money, so it’s better to be surrounded by those who won’t use you for it.” He tried to comfort, but this time, Chanyeol hissed at the older male.
“Hyung, shut up.” He tried to grit, but Baekhyun was tired of the two trying to tell him how to feel.
“Look, if I knew that Joori was dating me so her and her boyfriend could turn a profit from my gifts, you think I would have dated her?” He said as he looked at Chanyeol who was cowardly backing into his seat. Satisfied watching him easily submit, he looked over to the older one, who looked at him apologetically. “And did you forget about Sora who was aiming for a proposal so I could save that stupid ing fabric company?”
Unlike Chanyeol, Suho didn’t easily back down, but he still admitted defeat. “Alright, I’m sorry. But Baekhyun, you can’t change who you are. You were born blessed and this blessing is a double edged sword.”
Baekhyun took in another deep breath at the man’s words and rolled his eyes. However, Chanyeol had quickly recovered as he shrugged and took a sip of his gin and tonic. “I mean, you could always pretend to be poor too.” He laughed as he looked at the man who sat silently. Suho laughed along as he slapped Baekhyun’s arm playfully, “Like Baekhyun would be able to blend in with normal people. He’s Byun Baekhyun. It would take someone living under a rock to not know the Byun Family. Rich since the Joseon Era!”
Letting out a small laugh himself, Baekhyun knew that his last name was the very thing that held him back. However, he couldn’t help but be intrigued.
