Epilogue: Spring
Memories engraved in the season's
It was spring, with cherry blossoms in full bloom. The pale pink flowers have a subtle but mild fragrance. Neither fruity nor sweet, but like the fresh green of spring. The flowers never smell strong, but spring blossoms are surprisingly assertive, and Kyungsoo had been affected by even the slightest traces of curtain scents, making him puke his guts out. So he would rather not go on a date amidst sakura this season.
His illness didn’t go unnoticed by his husband; the midnight trips to the bathrooms woke the alpha more than a couple of times. JongIn insists on taking him to a doctor, but instead of replying as he usually does, he snaps, taking both him and his mate by surprise. He apologizes profusely, for snapping at such a silly thing, but JongIn never takes it to heart. But Kyungsoo ends up felling guilty. He doesn’t understand why he has been cranky these days, why he had to wake up at odd hours to vomit, or why he just couldn’t stand certain food smell when he had never been a picky eater.
The answer to all his questions comes in the form of a white stick with a plus sign on it. Not just one, but quite a few. And a visit to the doctor confirms it. Kyungsoo takes in a deep shuddering breath to compose himself, staring down at the pregnancy test in his hand as pure bliss bubbles up in his heart, making him choke on a couple of happy tears falling down his pale cheek.
He is pregnant. They are pregnant and they are going to become parents. At that thought, an image of JongIn holding his niece flashes in front of his eyes, making a small smile make its way onto his lips. JongIn would make a great father. But…are they ready for this? His smile freezes and Kyungsoo goes down the rabble hole of dilemma. The heat he shared with JongIn for the alpha's birthday had been their first heat and runt spent together. Though the chances of him falling pregnant were there, he didn’t expect it to happen the first time.
But it wasn’t just once, they were there in their room for three whole days!! That certain part of his brain reminds him, making him blush.
But still, how will JongIn take this news? Even though he is good with kids, they never discussed having their own, and frankly, Kyungsoo didn’t expect it to happen this early. But…JongIn loves him, and he loves his mate the same, so wouldn’t JongIn also love this tiny token of their love? Kyungsoo places his hand over his still flat belly, looking down and giving a small smile to his baby. They will be fine, JongIn will be fine, and he just gotta find a way to break this news to his husband.
JongIn comes home late and brings over a bottle of red wine as an apology. They have a lazy dinner, snuggled up with each other on the couch with a late-night Friday drama running on the TV. JongIn pours them two glasses of red wine, and Kyungsoo simply declines, snuggling up with a human-size teddy bear that JongIn got as his substitute for those days of long business trips. JongIn crooks his brows, wondering why Kyungsoo is saying no to alcohol. Sure, Kyungsoo is a soju person with very bad alcoholic behavior, but still, he had slowly started liking JongIn’s taste in alcohol and became a huge fan of red wine.
“Why? Are you still not feeling well?”
“No, I’m fine.” He did not mean to make it sound so cold.
“Then why are you not having any? It’s the weekend tomorrow babe. We can get wasted. Come on. Just a sip?” JongIn brings the glass closer to his lips and Kyungsoo snaps, hitting the glass away from him, making it fall onto the carpeted floor, staining it red.
“I said I don’t want to! Why can’t you understand??” he shouts, catching JongIn off guard. Once Kyungsoo realizes what he had done, regret flushes through his system, making him curl up farther against the teddy bear with humiliation.
“Fine. If you say so.” JongIn simply gives him a small smile, leaning back into the couch and taking a sip off his glass of wine.
The TV screen moves, the voices of the actors playing in the background as the silence between them slowly starts making Kyungsoo suffocated. Kyungsoo sighs, tears ticking his eyes as he looks back at JongIn, mumbling
“ I am sorry. I didn’t mean to do that.”
JongIn turns the TV off, shifting closer to his omega as he cups his chubby cheeks, looking directly into them.
“What is it? I know something is bothering you. You know I will always be here for you right?”
Kyungsoo bits his lips nodding his head as he pulls away from his alpha to grab a box wrapped in a gift wrapper that he had tucked under the coffee table.
“Ha..was not expecting that? babe..what is this?”
“Open it”
“I think this is not what I asked for?”
“Just open it.” Kyungsoo urges and JongIn does, pulling off the ribbon and ripping the warping. But instead of finding the reason behind his husband’s distress, he finds another box. JongIn gives Kyung a look and continues to open the smaller box. When he finds yet another box inside it, he just looks up at his mate, saying
“What is this? Is this a proposal?? Is there gonna be a ring in the final box? Babe, If I might remind you, we have been married for more than 2 years now.”
“Just open it Jonginie.”
“Fine fine.” JongIn chuckles, continuing with his unboxing. He finally ends up with a b
