Chapter 30 pt. 1
How I Met Your Appa
Chapter 30 pt. 1
Jongdae was startled. He was dumbfounded. "What happened? Why is he so upset?"
"Um, kids, maybe you can go outside to play," Yixing suggested and patted Jonghyun's head. Jonghyun nodded and Jongdae kissed his and Namjoo's foreheads, before all the small kids ran out the door to the grass area.
"And be careful!" Joonmyun called after them. He received some vague answers from various kids.
Yixing raised his eyebrows looking around at the remaining kids.
"Oh come on, we want to hear!" Aron pleaded his baba.
"Yes, please!" Amber chimed.
"You wouldn't find it interesting. It would be better and more fun for you if you just went outside to play," Joonmyun replied kindly, trying to be reasonable.
Aron and Amber pouted. Luna and Sohee looked hesitant, but then went outside without quarreling - they could probably hear the good stuff from some of the adults later on. Byunghun and Chanhee also just shrugged and walked outside, not really finding it interesting to listen to the adults' conversation.
"Aron, just go outside, it's really none of your business what we're talking about," Yi Fan said and Aron pouted even more and glared angrily at his dad, before he and Amber did as was told.
"Ji Yong, you too," Minseok said to the boy.
"What?! I'm almost an adult! I'm twelve," Ji Yong objected.
"Please just do what I tell you to. You won't find it interesting in here, either," Minseok told him. Ji Yong glared at his appa.
"And it would be really helpful if you would look after the kids," Taemin added and smiled friendly at him. Ji Yong stood up and disappeared through the door with a pouting, mumbling and irritated attitude.
"Sandara?" Jongdae raised his eyebrows at the girl who sat in a chair relaxed. He motioned to the door with his eyes.
"I promise I won't find it boring. I'll even help discuss," she said almost pleadingly.
"Sandara, please go outside." Jongdae didn't budge.
"I'm not even a kid!"
"Today you are."
Sandara groaned and stood from the chair, and walked towards the door. When she was gone, the adults turned back to each other.
"Maybe it was because the kids were so noisy earlier? Before he started preparing lunch," Zitao said, getting back to Jongdae's earlier question.
"I don't know..." Jongdae said. "He wouldn't get so angry about that; he would endure it or just walk away. He wouldn't start yelling."
"But wasn't it because Sandara told Namjoo about the package deal?" Sehun asked.
"No, he was upset earlier too," Jongdae said, remembering.
"What about when he took away Sandara's phone? I heard him; he sounded pretty angry," Minseok said.
"So he got upset two times with Sandara?" Taemin said, trying to pick up the pieces. "What else?"
"He got angry at Baekhyun at lunch time," Jongin remembered.
"Anything else?" Taemin asked.
"He got angry earlier at Baekhyun too, when we took out plates and dishes," Jongdae told.
"Why?" Taemin asked.
Jongdae looked at Baekhyun and Chanyeol, not sure whether he should say it or not.
"Because he wasn't satisfied with how we dealt with our misunderstanding from yesterday," Baekhyun told them nonchalantly.
"What did you do?" Sehun asked.
Baekhyun and Chanyeol smirked at each other.
"You're too young, baby Sehun." Baekhyun stuck out his tongue.
"Wait, you...?" Minseok blurted out, before he could stop himself. Baekhyun looked at him and smirked with a slight nod. Minseok couldn't help but furrow his eyebrows a bit.
"Let's not talk about that!" Jongdae exclaimed. "Let's find out why my husband is upset! Maybe it's something I have done?"
Lu Han thought for a while. "So he's gotten upset with Sandara two times and Baekhyun two times..."
"Maybe they're just too much?" Yixing suggested. Baekhyun looked offended.
"I'm right here! I can hear you!"
"No, I don't think he would get so angry with Sandara... Also, he seemed to be surprised of himself too and he apologized sincerely," Minseok said. Jongdae nodded.
They sat a while in silence, thinking about the things that could have upset Kyungsoo. Jongin broke the silence with a sound between a giggle and a snort.
"Well if you haven't given him his present yet, maybe this would be the time." He seemed to be in his own thoughts, not really thinking about what he said. But his comment made everyone look at him confused.
"What present?" Jongdae asked with furrowed eyebrows. He was clearly oblivious to what Jongin meant. Jongin looked at him with surprise.
"His anniversary present of course!" he announced. Suddenly something seemed to hit the older man in realization.
"It's the 8th of July today?" he asked with wide eyes.
"Yup," Jongin replied, wondering about the other man's confusion. "It's your anniversary, hyung. Did you forget about that?"
Jongdae groaned as he leaned back against the couch's cushion and hit his forehead with his palm. "Damn it!"
"I can't believe it's your anniversary!" Chanyeol exclaimed with a smile. "Congrats!"
"I can't believe you forgot about your anniversary!" Baekhyun seemed rather offended, even though it wasn't him to be.
"Yeah, hyung, how could you forget your own anniversary?" Zitao asked, also clearly offended. "I don't blame him for flipping out now. If it was me, I would have choked you already." Sehun who sat by his side, seemed to swallow and twitched uncomfortably. Zitao didn't notice.
"I don't know how I could forget..." Jongdae mumbled, shocked over himself.
"Well I don't know either. I mean if..." Zitao began, but Joonmyun cut him off.
"Zitao, maybe this isn't the right time." And Zitao closed his mouth immediately.
"I need to figure out what to do." Jongdae stood from his seat and went to his bedroom, closing the door behind himself; he needed some time alone without the others' voices distracting him.
"I feel bad for Kyungsoo..." Taemin stated and Jongin pulled him closer, smiling sadly at him.
"I can't believe that forgetful being is my best friend!" Baekhyun exclaimed abruptly. He was obviously joking, but he was a good actor. The others slightly cracked a smile, which luckily was Baekhyun's intention in the serious and intense atmosphere.
"Don't say that..." Chanyeol said. Baekhyun looked surprised at him: he hadn't really figured that Chanyeol would go against him this time. Chanyeol stood and went to Jongdae's room.
"What?" Baekhyun was dumbfounded.
"Maybe you need to deal with another misunderstanding again tonight," Sehun said teasingly and Baekhyun threw a cushion at him.
When Kyungsoo came home after almost two hours, the parents were still sitting in the living room. The kids had come back indoors and everyone, including the adults, were gathered around the coffee table playing a board game. When Kyungsoo came into the living room, everyone laughed loudly, apparently at something happening to Yi Fan in the game. Kyungsoo stopped in his tracks, and the first one to notice him was Baekhyun. He looked up at him.
"Hi," Baekhyun said, making the others look up at Kyungsoo as well. Everyone went silent, some looking at Kyungsoo, others avoiding to even give him a glance.
"Hi," Kyungsoo answered back. He took a small step forward and looked slightly at the floor, feeling kind of embarrassed. The reason he'd been walking and driving aimlessly around the city for the last two hours, was because he was angry. He was angry with himself and he was angry at Jongdae. He didn't know that it meant so much to him, he couldn't believe that it did. But he couldn't believe that Jongdae had actually forgotten their anniversary either. Just a small gesture would have been nice. But Kyungsoo was also angry at himself because of his outburst everyone had witnessed earlier, and he was upset that he had yelled at Sandara without any of it being her fault. And he was also embarrassed of himself: he had actually yelled in front of his own kids and in front of his nieces and nephews. He didn't know if they could ever look at him the same way again.
"I'm really sorry," Kyungsoo said. He looked around at all of their faces. "I don't know what made me so upset. I really don't know..." He looked at Sandara.
"Sandara, I'm sorry I yelled at you like that. I really don't know what came of me. I shouldn't have yelled at you. I overreacted and it wasn't your fault. I hope you can forgive me."
Sandara looked at him and thought for a while. Kyungsoo almost thought she wouldn't forgive him, when she spoke. "I forgive you," she said. Then she smirked. "Does that mean I can get my cell phone back?" She sent one of her biggest smiles Kyungsoo's direction, which rarely could be opposed. Kyungsoo hesitated.
"I'll think about it," he said and she smiled to him.
"Thank you, oppa!" she said cutely, making it even more irresistible to grant her wish.
Kyungsoo then turned to his own kids, who both leaned closer to Yixing nervously. They tried avoiding his gaze, obviously a bit shocked and scared still.
Kyungsoo took a step closer again and looked pleadingly and sorrowful at them. "Jonghyun, Namjoo, I am really sorry you had to see me like that. I promise it will never happen again." He didn't even know what else to say, he didn't know how to explain to them how sorry he felt. Luckily the two kids immediately stood up and ran to him, hugging him around his waist.
"We forgive you, papa," Namjoo mumbled into his side. Jonghyun nodded, agreeing.
Kyungsoo smiled gratefully. "Thank you. I promise it will never happen again." He put his hands on the kids' heads and ran his fingers through their hair.
"We know it won't." Jonghyun smiled up at his papa and Kyungsoo couldn't help but smile back. Then he looked at the other parents and kids.
"I'm really sorry. I hope you can all forgive me and just... forget it ever happened. I'm sorry I yelled in front of your kids." He had turned to the parents.
Suddenly Jongin stood up and walked over to him, wrapping his arms tightly around him and burying his head in the shorter man's shoulder. The kids got pushed away. "It's okay. I'm just glad you're back alright," he mumbled into his shoulder. Kyungsoo smiled and patted his back.
"Thank you," he mumbled. Then he looked at the remaining parents, still with Jongin's form surrounding him. "Can you forgive me too?" he asked hopefully.
"Of course!" Joonmyun said with a friendly smile. "It's okay, Kyungsoo. We never have to speak of that again." Kyungsoo nodded gratefully at him.
"Already forgotten," Yi Fan agreed.
"We forgive you, squishy Do Kyungsoo," Baekhyun said and Kyungsoo narrowed his eyes at the nickname.
"And we totally understand you," Zitao said. "I said it before: if it was me, I would have already killed him." Kyungsoo looked at him with confusion and wonder, surprised that they knew why he was upset. Sehun twitched nervously in his seat again, but Zitao still didn't notice.
"I really wouldn't want to be in Sehun's shoes right now," Minseok mumbled loudly enough for all of them to hear, making everyone laugh. Only Zitao looked at him puzzled, apparently not knowing what he was talking about.
When there was quiet once again and Jongin had let go of Kyungsoo, Kyungsoo asked, "Where's Jongdae?" He had looked around the living room, but couldn't see him anywhere.
"He's been waiting outside for you the last hour. He was worried, but figured all you needed was time, that's why he didn't go out to find you. He trusts you and he knew you would come back," Chanyeol explained. Kyungsoo didn't know what to say. It hadn't even crossed his mind if Jongdae had gone out to find him or not. Knowing that he hadn't because he knew he just needed some time alone and that he trusted him enough to get back in his own pace, warmed his heart.
