Summary: Rin & Ryu both are in the same school n both of them are singers.They have been rivals n neighbors since they were kids.
Though Ryu is older than Rin, they're always competing one another in every situation. So they basically "hate" each other.
There's a thin line between love n hate, n they don't realize on their actual feelings.
They need to learn to reduce their "hate" and it turns out to be "attracting" each other.
When they finally able to cooperate, and realize their own feeling to each other?

“Wahhh… Ryutaro-kun is so dreamy ne? I wonder if he already has a girlfriend”

Rin looked at the two girls admiringly staring at one particular boy she practically hates – Ryutaro Morimoto. She took a deep breath and just thought on how foolish those girls are helplessly ‘fan-girling’ to the boy he often calls an ‘idiot’ every time.


“I bet he already does… I often see him and Fujikawa Rin-san always together. I think they’re going out…” Rin overheard the same two girls which is enough to make half of her ear drum almost expanding to an unimaginable depth.


“Ehh? Fujikawa-san? I know they’re quite close since they’re neighbours and all… but I don’t think they’re going out. Ryutaro-kun is older than her after all.” One of the girls replied, loud enough to make Rin hear their actual conversation.

“Maybe you’re right… plus, I don’t think they suit each other. Rin-chan is quite competitive and I think Ryutaro-kun deserves a more girlish girlfriend…” Rin heard the other girl say with a chuckle and mocking tone that made Rin’s viens on her head pop out in an immediate pace.


Immediately, she approached the two girls then patted both of their shoulders.

The two unfamiliar girls turned around to see Rin giving off a fake sarcastic smile.


“I’m Ryutaro Morimoto’s rival~ I just wanted to clarify that…” Rin said then left the two girls dumbfounded by the side lines of the baseball field.

“What are you doing Rin-chan?” Ryutaro playfully reached Rin’s desk with an idea of annoying his childhood friend. He took the initiative to peek into what Rin is reading and grinned happily within her presence.


“I’m practicing my new song for the school festival… Our class will definitely win this!” she proclaimed with a determined expression.


“Hah! I don’t think that’s possible… My class ALWAYS win that competition, since we’re the best…” Ryutaro replied with a proud remark which made Rin glare at him…

“Stop that foolishness Morimoto… I’ll definitely beat you this time…”


“Hey! I’m your senpai, you know… you should at least call me ‘Morimoto-kun’…” Ryutaro demanded, definitely being bothered by Rin’s cold attitude… “Besides, why do you always have to compete with me? We’ve been competing with each other since the start… I can’t even remember why we compete in the first place” he continued and gave off his signature ‘thinking’ gesture which is indeed very noticeable by Rin.


After seeing Ryutaro’s clueless face, she immediately pinched his cheek with utmost strength, not willing to let go. “You can’t remember? It’s because YOU always WIN!!! I can’t accept the fact that an idiot like you always beat me…”


“Itai Rin-chan!!! How can you do this to your senpai?” Ryutaro struggled for a while then tried his best to release his face on Rin’s capture. After seeing this, Rin released him and walked towards her classroom without mentioning another word to the man in pain beside her. Ryutaro on the other hand just held on to his plump cheek mouthing the words of ‘torture’.

*break time*


Rin forced herself up in the middle of their room and tried to stretch every little joint she has on her body which she felt are now stiff because of the continuous nagging of their teacher for God-knows how many hours.


As she passed over the cafeteria door, she saw a bunch of students clumping around the school’s ‘Announcement Board’ which immediately pulled her closer with a feeling of curiousness.

She struggled to see for a second but she managed to somehow read what the paper was saying that made people around her quite eccentric.


“Join the first Science Competition going to be held on the school festival… Anyone is welcome to join. Have a chance to win two tickets to Tokyo Disney Land…” 


Rin read the note and gave off an excited expression. With eyes widen, she took the piece of paper stuck on the board without realising that people are still reading it. She then ran quickly towards her rival’s classroom with an idea set in her mind: “I’m going to beat you Ryu!!” she continued grinning to herself before actually finding Ryutaro talking happily to his friends.


“Morimoto!!! Come with me a sec…” she proclaimed then pulled Ryutaro’s hand outside their classroom like finally capturing a serious criminal on her bare hands.


“What? What do you want now?” he replied uninterestingly after taking a bite on the sandwich which is originally on his right hand.

“Stop enjoying your sandwich and look at this!!!” Rin said then excitedly pulled the piece of paper near Ryutaro’s face.


“Science Competition? So, what’s this anything to do with me?”


“You’re joining it!!!”

“What? NO WAY!”


“YES WAY!!! And I’m sure to beat you on this one… You might be good in sports and even singing. But I bet you can’t beat me in this…” Rin challenged Ryutaro with a wide smile on her face… “And besides, I want the prize! I’ve never been to Disney Land!!”


“Here you are again, trying to beat me… Why don’t you just give it up Rin-chan… YOU.WILL.NEVER.WIN.” Ryutaro mocked then patted the smaller girl’s head leaving Rin give off an obvious pout…

“PLEASE!!! Just join… I want to go to Disney Land!!” Rin said with a  childish tone while shaking Ryutaro’s sleeve.

“NO WAY! I’m busy enough… Plus, who’s going to be my partner on that thing?” he asked quickly which made Rin stop and think for a while.


“Partner? Partner for what?” she asked in a confused tone.

“tsk tsk… You didn’t read this thing properly, did you?” Ryutaro replied then showed Rin the piece of paper once again. “It said, you need a partner to join… I can’t be bothered to look for a partner myself.”


By this, Rin’s ideas completely fell apart. The idea of having a ‘partner’ is just bothersome enough for her plus the constant disapproval of her rival made her more restless.

However, within a flash, another great thought popped into her great little mind…


“I’ll be your partner!!!!!” she immediately shouted on the half empty corridor which made all the eyes diverted unto her direction.

“Ehh? I thought you want to compete with me? Now, you want me to be in the same group?” he replied.


“I want to get those tickets so badly… I want to go to Disney Land! Please ‘Morimoto-senpai’… I beg you!!!” Rin said and continued to tighten her grip on Ryutaro’s sleeve, not wanting him to move any further from where he’s standing.

“You want something from me then you suddenly call me ‘Morimoto-senpai’? You’re one of a kind Rin-chan…” Ryutaro said while trying his best to shake Rin off his left sleeve… “I still refuse!!!”


“Please! I’ll be nice to you from now on…”Rin said to try and persuade him.

“NO.”

“I’ll bring you lots of fruits everyday…”

“NO.” Ryutaro again replied while shaking his head.

“I’ll do your laundry, wash your dishes and even feed your bird every day!”

“NO! I have my mum to do all that… and, I don’t have a pet bird!”

“Then, I’ll make you an obento every day for two weeks…”

“NO.”

“Okay~ for a month…”

“NO.”

“I’ll do everything you say! Just please be my partner!!!”


An awkward silence filled the place, still with some people’s eyes locked on their direction.
However, Ryutaro was initiative enough to fill that silence with an evil smirk on his behalf, as if planning something wicked.

“You’ll do everything I say?” he grinned which made Rin look up to the slightly taller frame of Ryutaro with a half confuse expression on what he’s actually thinking… “It’s a deal! I’ll be your partner…”


“Ehh? Really?”


“Hai~ but don’t forget what you promised… You’ll do anything I say!!” Ryutaro remarked then gave off a cheeky chuckle whilst heading back to his classroom.

“What’s wrong with that guy? He’s giving me the creeps… Did I make the right decision?” Rin said to herself after seeing a chilly sensation running down her spine.

*next day*


“We only have a few days for the school festival… Not much time Rin-chan~” Ryutaro sighed in despair after seeing Rin giving off a tired look on her face after her singing rehearsal… “So, where do we start?”


“Actually, I thought of an idea already… Look here” she said then handed a piece of paper to Ryutaro with her familiar hand writing on it.

“Wahhh… sugoi… you actually thought of it already?” Ryutaro said with an amazed tone, after seeing the detailed notes of Rin of how to get their project started.

“Of course! I don’t want to lose to you in this matter…” she replied with a competitive smirk on her face.

“Chotto~ we’re on the same team… we should work together. NOT COMPETE!!!” Ryutaro said then pinched Rin’s cheek as part of his revenge from the other day… “So, we’re making a buzz wire for the science competition, huh?” he continued, while ignoring Rin’s struggle from his painful capture.

“Itai!!!”

“This is used in steady hand games, right? Therefore, we need some sort of electricity to make this. Maybe some batteries will do… with some wires.” Ryutaro explained and gave off a serious ‘thinking’ face.


On the other hand, Rin just looked at him with an amazed expression, forgetting she’s still in pain from Ryutaro’s pinch. She gazed around Ryu's face and saw defined corners of his appearance. She suddenly felt a warm sensation rushing through her face which helped revealing a tint of pink on her own complexion.


“Oyy Rin! Are you listening?” Ryutaro asked after seeing Rin blankly staring at him… “Are you okay? Your face looks red. Do you have a cold?” he continued then placed the back of his hand on the girl’s forehead.


“Ahh… anou… ermmm… I’m okay. What were you saying again?” she struggled to say then faced Ryutaro once again.

“I said… we need a source of electricity to do this with some wires. But I think this is quite dangerous dealing with electric current and all…”


“Don’t worry~ you have me here… everything will be okay…” Rin reassured the older boy then listed all the things they need on her notebook… “We’ll work on the Physics room tomorrow ne?”

*working day*


“OUCH!!!” Rin screamed in agony after receiving an electric shock from the wire she was just working on.

Almost immediately, Ryutaro walked towards the girl and looked over her hurt hand… “I told you to be careful, right? That happened to you almost 10 times already… Girls are really useless with these kinds of things…” Ryutaro sighed then pulled Rin’s hand to see it clearly. After seeing a red part of her skin, Ryutaro immediately blew on it and gently placed a cloth over her hand.

“OI!! This has nothing to do with my gender! Girls work exactly like boys… or even better!” she defended herself while looking at the busy Ryutaro.

“Shut up for a moment and let me put something on that… It still hurts, right?”


With this remark, Rin just did what she was told and zipped immediately with the sight of Ryutaro applying some sort of cream on her hurt hand. Suddenly, a familiar feeling hit her again after seeing Ryutaro’s handsome apprearance so close to her.

She can even smell his subtle fragrance which she immediately drawn into within a flash. Before she knew it, she was blushing: “Why do I hate this man again?” she asked herself then blinked a few times to regain to her actual senses.


“I think that’s gonna be okay for a while… just don’t push yourself too hard…”

*few hours later*


Ryutaro stood up and stretched his numb legs after working for so many hours. He looked around slowly and saw Rin’s head buried on her work table with some wires and batteries surrounding her.

By this, Ryutaro didn’t hesitate to walk towards her direction and see how his ‘partner’ is doing. To his surprise, he saw an innocent looking Rin sleeping soundly on her work desk.

Immediately, Ryutaro took off his blazer and placed it over Rin’s shoulder to at least try and make her warm. He heard a soft moan on Rin’s behalf which made Ryutaro silently chuckle by the scene.

“How can I make you my rival if you’re this cute?” he smiled at the her appearance and left a soft peck on Rin’s forehead, slightly covered by her hair… “You work too hard Rin-chan~ I’ll let you rest for a while…”

*Few days later = 2 days before the Science Competition*


Rin skipped happily towards the physics lab where she knows her beloved ‘partner’ is waiting right after their class. She smiled to herself with the thought of having their project nearly finished, ready to be presented the day after tomorrow with all her hard work to be recognised by the whole school.


However, as she led her way into the room, 2 familiar girls who she remembered to be in Ryutaro’s class halted her on her way.

They gave Rin unfriendly looks, up and down which is enough for her to notice the unpromising atmosphere.


“Can I help you?” Rin said, still remained on her own composure.

“We’ll get straight to the point… Are you going out with Ryutaro-kun?” one of the girls replied with a furious tone.

“Huh? What are you guys talking about? And why do you care? It’s none of your business, right?” Rin gave off a mocking remark to counter their unfriendly gestures.


“Hah… you care enough to talk back to your senpai like that?” one of the girls chuckled sarcastically then walked closer to Rin… “Leave Ryutaro-kun alone… and you’ll be in no trouble, missy”


“Why would I do that? As far as I know, you’re not his girlfriend either!” Rin replied, still building up her confidence upfront the two girls. Yet, deep inside her is a fragile feeling of fright and worry on what these girls are capable of. However, the thought being given, staying away from Ryutaro is just unforgivable.


“You b*tch!!!” one girl cried out of annoyance and immediately tried to swing her hand, ready to slap Rin on the face.

Rin just didn’t have enough much time to think of a quick action and just decided to close her eyes out of reflex; expecting a sudden blow on her face.

Suddenly, Rin felt someone grab her from behind and pulled her away from the 2 unfriendly girls before being hit.


“I won’t let you touch my girlfriend…” Ryutaro said calmly and gave off a sharp stare. Rin on the other hand just stayed quiet and looked at Ryutaro with a confuse state.

“Ryutaro-kun… Sh- she’s y- your girlfriend?” one girl said with a broken voice…


After hearing this question, Ryutaro decided to ignore them and guided Rin towards the physics room instead… “Let’s go Rin-chan…” he proclaimed whilst holding Rin’s hand tightly.

“Are you hurt?” Ryutaro looked at Rin with a concern face, after checking they are now alone.

“W- Why? Why did you say I’m your girlfriend?” Rin asked without hesitation and stared at Ryutaro directly… “Those girls clearly likes you…”

Within a flash, Ryutaro countered her remark and looked at the other direction. He himself doesn’t know why he said that. It was just like a sudden reflex action that came out from his mouth unexpectedly… “I think because, I like you…” he thought to himself after quickly realising how he felt. “We’re nearly finished on our project… Can we just finish the final details tomorrow? I’m quite tired today…” Ryutaro quietly said after turning around; clearly avoiding any eye-contact... “I’ll see you tomorrow”

*Science Competition*


Rin forced herself to set up their project on their designated table. She looked helplessly at the clock and noticed how time passed by so quickly which is enough to make her heart rate faster than normal. Aside from that, she took a deep breath after seeing an empty chair in which her partner should be sitting.

She hasn’t seen Ryutaro since yesterday. He took a day off before the actual school festival which left Rin all by herself to finish their project yesterday. She sighed desperately after seeing her piece of work lifelessly sitting against the table… “It will be nice if Ryu-chan is actually here… I wonder if he’s coming”she said to herself then saw two invigilators looking through the other participant’s projects.


After seeing this, she immediately straightened her back and arranged her uniform and tried her best to forget about Ryutaro… “I don’t care where he is… I’m here for my prize.” She shook her head rapidly to try to ‘wake’ herself up from her day-dream.

Only about an hour and a half had passed and Rin just looked at few familiar faces come and go to look and even try their project. She sighed heavily for the nth time with her mind still captivated by the thoughts of Ryutaro. “Where the heck is that idiot?”

Suddenly, Rin heard a voice over the microphone which is helpful enough to draw her attention for a while.

“Ladies and Gentlemen… Can I have your attention please?” the announcer of the event said over his mic with a pink envelop on his left hand… “I have here the results for this competition who will win 2 tickets to Tokyo Disney Land.”


With much anticipation, Rin moved closer to the stage and waited long enough for the winner to be called. She felt her own fist clenching because of the tense atmosphere lingering around her with the other contestants. For a moment, all of noise around the place became silent. Now, all Rin can hear is the sound of her own heart beat rebelling against the sound of her own breath.

“And the winners are… Morimoto Ryutaro and Fujikawa Rin!!” the man announced which made a few claps and cheers after all the people’s eyes diverted to Rin’s direction.


Upon hearing this, Rin mouthed the words of gratefulness and saw the principal of their school handing her a white envelope which she anticipated to be their prize.

After a while, Rin made her way from the stage and ran outside to look for one guy in particular. She suddenly felt a sudden urge to properly ‘thank’ him. Indeed, some time ago, he hates the man called Morimoto Ryutaro. However something inside her just wanted to give him many thanks.


To her dismay, not a single sign of Ryutaro was found. She looked helplessly to every possible places she can go to in her school but found nothing.


By this, she took the nearest chair and just caught her breath with quite teary eyes… “Where the hell are you?” she whispered then attempted to tear the white envelope she was holding.

“Omedetou… you won.” A familiar voice came out of nowhere which made Rin turn around to the voice.

“RYU!!! Where have you been!!!” Rin excitedly stood up after seeing Ryutaro’s figure before her sight… “I was worried!!” she continued while wiping her teary eyes.


“Enough about me~ I just came here to congratulate you” Ryutaro replied then smiled… “Yokatta ne? You can now go to Disney Land with someone special” he continued then patted the smaller girl's shoulder with an attempt to go and leave her again.


“Anou~” Rin immediately grabbed Ryutaro’s sleeve after seeing him attempting to go… “Actually… I want to go with you” she quietly said then avoided Ryutaro’s eyes.

“Ehh? I thought you hated me? I’m your rival after all…” Ryutaro replied with a blur tone.


“Well, I think I can put up with you even for just for a while…” Rin chuckled and faced the slightly taller boy towards her direction… “Besides, I don’t like to owe you anything. And remember I promised I’ll do anything you tell me of you agree to be my partner…”


“Hmmm… You’ll do anything I say, right?” Ryutaro replied to Rin’s remark and turned himself properly to see Rin’s figure… “I order you not to be angry at me after I do this…” he continued then held both of her shoulders; one on each hand.


“Do what?”


Immediately, Ryutaro pulled Rin towards his face then placed a soft kiss on her soft lips. Within seconds, time stopped and everything around them just became motionless, only hearing their own heart beats matching each other’s pace.

“W-What did you just do?” Rin gulped, still unsure if the ‘kiss’ actually happened.


“I kissed my rival… Any objections?” Ryutaro grinned then saw his rival’s face burning up still eyes widen from what happened…
