Aaron looked around the shop as he tied his apron strings. The little cafe was small, and modest. The walls were white, as the previous owner had left it; he couldn't get some money for some cans of paint. The interior of the store was filled with tables and chairs, as was the little terrace outside. He had managed to clear most of the falling leaves off the sidewalk of the terrace, and put in some more tables. His eyes paused at a corner .

' Hmm.... I can grow some spices there.....'

His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the opening door.

' Hi Aaron!'

A young girl wearing a simple t-shirt and overall ensemble entered the shop. Her long hair was tied up in a ponytail, and her cheeks were flushed.

' Hi Carlyn.' Aaron smiled.

' Are you ready yet?' She barged past him into the counter. ' Look, I bought you some coffee from the corner shop, because I just KNOW you skipped breakfast again.' She handed him a cup of coffee.

' And, I've asked around the other shops on this street, the crowds normally come at around 2 in the afternoon, which means we might have to take shifts, for lunch.' She paused as she looked around the shop.

' I knew we should have painted that wall blue. It sets off the sunlight, don't you think?' She chewed her lip thoughtfully.

Aaron smiled. Carlyn was always like that. She was a little ball of energy, bursting with ideas and things to do. When they were young, they used to play together after school; they were neighbours. They had been through thick and thin together, even sharing a common dream... to open their own cafe.

' Relax Carlyn,' he sipped his coffee. 'Its only 9 in the morning'.

She sighed, ' I suppose you're right'. He reached over, and ruffled her hair playfully.

' Hey!' she hit him lightly. Her cheeks were more flushed than usual.

' Hey why is your face so flushed?' he said, smiling.

' I...Its cold outside, stupid~!' She tousled his hair in return.

That was close. She hoped he didn't hear how fast her heart was beating. Or how fast her breathing quickened when she saw him smile.
