chapter 2
i'll never loveA/N:
I wasn't planning on posting this so soon cause I haven't written the next chapters, but I feel like at this point we needed a distraction from the silence with OTR and IZ*ONE.
Also thank you to everyone who subscribed, commented and upvoted. I'm sorry I couldn't reply to you guys, but I do appreciate each and every one of you.
So this chapter is kind of angsty, i guess, but I hope you guys like it.
“What about my parents? Why can’t I go back to the family that I...that I do know?”
The question hit Chaeyeon hard and so suddenly. All she wanted to do was cry out and beg Eunbi to snap out of it and stop playing around. This can’t be real. None of this is supposed to happen. Car crash, coma, and memory loss? These were things that happened in movies. Never in her imagination did she think this would happen to Eunbi, the love of her life.
Only, Eunbi wasn’t just the love of her life. Eunbi is Chaeyeon’s family. And not family in the sense that they’ve become one by marriage. But even before their marriage, they’ve chosen to be each other's families.
At the mention of family, Chaeyeon was brought back to the time during the early stages of their relationship. Chaeyeon was reminded of the night many years ago when they swore that the only family they needed was each other.

They weren’t married yet back then. Chaeyeon and Eunbi had been dating for over two years. At this point they were ready for the next step, had even talked about marriage on occasions. They were serious enough to tell each of their families about their relationship.
Chaeyeon woke to the sound of the front door opening in the middle of the night. She jumped out of bed and grabbed the nearest thing she could throw to an intruder, which was a hairbrush, and her phone. As she slowly crept out of her room, she could hear the sound of the intruder’s sniffing.
Chaeyeon blindly searches for the lightswitch and turned the main lights on. Greeting her from the front door was her girlfriend, Kwon Eunbi, with her eyes red and tear stains on her cheeks.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” Chaeyeon wasn’t caught off guard by Eunbi coming over unannounced and using the spare keys that Chaeyeon gave her, but she was surprised by how Eunbi showed up looking so haggard.
Eunbi opened to answer, but what came out was only a whimper. As if something snapped, Eunbi ran to Chaeyeon’s readily waiting open arms, and she sobbed. Hard. Tears streamed down uncontrollably.
All Chaeyeon could do at this moment was hold Eunbi in a tight embrace. She wishes more than anything to know what’s going on, but all she could offer was to squeeze Eunbi’s body closer and whisper sweet nothings into her ear. For now Chaeyeon only wanted to make sure her girlfriend is okay.
Chaeyeon doesn’t know how long they were just sitting on the floor together, in the middle of the living room, Eunbi’s head hiding on the crook of her neck as the older woman sat on Chaeyeon’s lap. When her girlfriend finally stopped crying and was ready to speak, Chaeyeon’s heart broke at what she had to say.
“They don’t approve. They said they’re going to disown me,” Eunbi says it in the smallest voice Chaeyeon has ever heard her speak. “My own parents are prepared to kick me out of the family.”
Chaeyeon couldn’t help but feel guilty for going on and on to Eunbi about her own parents being happy for Chaeyeon’s relationship with Eunbi just this afternoon. “I’m so sorry, baby.”
Chaeyeon felt Eunbi nod. Then, they stayed silent for the next couple of min
