Hua Mulan [NEW AUTHOR]"We must be swift as the coursing river,
with all the force of a great typhoon,
with all the strentgh of a raging fire,
mysterious as the dark side of a moon"
In some ways, training with the Northern Troops was no different to before. It was the same schedule - breakfast before dawn, dinner after dusk. But with the tang of blood that was hardly masked by the smell of pine trees, reality seemed to be seeping into all the soldiers.
The unmarked graves and bodies buried under thick layers of snow reminded them how real this war was. Compared to the previous camp, this was silent. People spoke in hushed whispers and hurried around the buildings with their heads down. Even the horses made no sound.

Mulan had never seen a panicked Luhan before; usually he was the epitome of calmness.
Aware that something was very wrong, she too hurried after Luhan as they led the horses out of the sta
