Fallen Angel

Fallen Angel

Jung Su packed his luggage and took the plane to Seoul. The last time he came back to Seoul was seven years ago to attend his parents’ funeral. His sister, Park In Young, moved to the States with him since then. He only told his sister that he is going to Seoul for a long while. In Young didn’t ask the reason because she understood his job’s characteristic. All she said to him is come home safely.

When Jung Su arrived in Seoul, he checked in at a hotel and dialled the number on the name card Eric gave him before he came to Seoul. After ending the call, he came to a cybercafé. He said a few words to the man standing at the entrance who then lead him to the back of the cybercafé.

Behind the cybercafé is a small office. The light in the office is dim but Jung Su could see a man sitting on the black sofa, playing with his phone. The man looked up from his phone when he realised there was someone else in the office. His lips curved upwards when he stared at Jung Su.

“Shin Hye Sung,” The man stood up and introduced himself. “Welcome to Seoul.”

“I’m Park Jung Su,” Jung Su responded.

“How’s your boss? That bastard still owes me dinner,” Hye Sung sat back on the sofa.

“Eric hyung is fine,” Jung Su addressed Eric as hyung when they are not working. So he also did the same thing when talking to Hye Sung.

“Well, you’re in Seoul now and I’ll be your contact,” Hye Sung took out a white envelope and passed to Jung Su. “Everything you need for this undercover is inside this envelope. Remember your true self. I’ve seen undercover police who turned their back against us. Eric shows his trust in you. Don’t let him down.”

“Yes sir,” Jung Su understood Hye Sung’s concern. But he would not turn him and Eric down.

“I will contact you with your new number tomorrow and let you know what to do next,” Hye Sung told him and left the office.

So Ra was in the library looking for information for her next piece of work when Hyo Lyn joined her with two thick books. Unlike So Ra, Hyo Lyn took business management as her family owns their own business and wanted her to take over the business when they retired. Hyo Lyn knew about So Ra’s family background but she didn’t mind befriending her. To Hyo Lyn, what So Ra’s father did was not related to So Ra and she didn’t want to lose a good friend just because of that.

“Want to go shopping after class?” Hyo Lyn asked So Ra.

“You don’t have any assignments to do?” So Ra questioned her.

“Assignments never come to an end and we need to relax,” Hyo Lyn smiled at So Ra. “Besides, I heard that there is a new restaurant in the shopping mall.”

“Really?” So Ra asked Hyo Lyn. When the other girls are having diets to maintain their body weights, both of them didn’t care about it. All they said is eating is happiness, so why torture yourself from being away from the nice food?

“I never lie to you,” Hyo Lyn told her. “Do you want to go or not?”

“Of course I want to,” So Ra responded.

“When your class ends?” Hyo Lyn asked So Ra. “Mine ends at four.”

“Mine too,” So Ra replied.

“So I’ll meet you at the gate then,” Hyo Lyn told her.

“Okay,” So Ra responded.

After both of their classes ended, the two girls took the bus and went to the shopping mall in the city centre. They went to the clothing shops and bookstore before visiting the new restaurant which Hyo Lyn mentioned earlier. When they were heading towards the restaurant, a man bumped into So Ra.

“I’m sorry,” He apologised.

“It’s okay,” So Ra looked up from the floor and saw the man’s face. She never believes in love at first sight but this is the first time someone caught her attention. The man smiled at her and walked away. Hyo Lyn noticed that So Ra was staring at the man’s back and hit on her back.

“What’s wrong with you?” Hyo Lyn asked.

“Nothing,” So Ra shook her head and placed her hand around Hyo Lyn’s arm. “Let’s go.”

The man who bumped into So Ra was none other than Jung Su. He was touring in the shopping mall and didn’t expect to meet So Ra under such a condition. He went into a bakery to buy some buns when his phone rang. He left the bakery as soon as he received the call.

The second meeting with Hye Sung was on an old building’s rooftop. Hye Sung passed a can of beer to him and invited Jung Su to sit down on the floor with him.

“I’ve made an arrangement for you,” Hye Sung said and passed Jung Su an envelope. “On Monday, you will go for an interview at Kang Yong Il’s company. Try to get his attention so that he would let you involve in his drug business. Inside this envelope is your past working experience. He won’t have suspicions about it.”

“Will he employ me?” Jung Su asked Hye Sung.

“He isn’t the one in charge of your interview,” Hye Sung replied. “There is an undercover among the interviewers. He would make sure that you will get the job.”

“Who is the other undercover?” Jung Su asked.

“You’ll know when you see him,” Hye Sung answered his question. “Remember, this is your one and only chance to go near Kang Yong Il to defeat him.”

“Yes sir,” Jung Su responded.

“Don’t address me as sir. You call that bastard hyung, so just call me Hye Sung hyung,” Hye Sung smiled at Jung Su.

“Hye Sung hyung,” Jung Su said. After the second encounter with Hye Sung, Jung Su felt that although Eric and Hye Sung are close, they have different characteristics. Their relationship is like water and oil. But both of them are caring towards those around them, though sometimes he found it hard to catch up with Eric’s thoughts.

“Contact me whenever you have any news,” Hye Sung told Jung Su before they separated.

“I will,” Jung Su said to Hye Sung.

“And, always remember who you truly are,” Hye Sung pointed at his heart and looked at Jung Su.

“I won’t disappoint you and Eric hyung,” Jung Su said in full confident.

Hye Sung smiled and patted on Jung Su’s shoulder. He left the building first and Jung Su left after ten minutes. The sky turned dark and the lights on the street told everyone that the night life started.
