06: THUMPING

Jungkook found himself thinking about Seulgi.    She wasn’t an easy person to read.  He had wondered if she was eating properly and where was would go during lunch.  Usually Jungkook could tell and understand the intentions behind someone’s actions, but Seulgi was a mystery to him. 

When he had accidentally found her on the rooftop, he could see that she wasn’t fussed about being alone.  No, it was like it was something she accepted and she didn’t let it bother her.  But Jungkook could tell one thing, and that was the girl liked to keep her distance from others.  Even when they were chatting, Jungkook could feel that Seulgi didn’t engage with him 100%.  She was by all means very polite but he felt like there was more to her than that. And it made him curious.  Why was this girl like this?  Why was she so cautious?

As they were all sitting in the math class, Jungkook looked towards Seulgi’s backside from her spot near the front of the class.  She paid full attention to the class and she took no notice of her surroundings.

Jimin who sat beside Jungkook in class whispered to him, “I heard you guys ate lunch together.  How did that go?”

Jungkook sighed, noting that it seemed like the whole school was making a big fuss about nothing.  “From whom did you hear that from?”

“Irene.  But that’s not important.  Tell me all the details.”  Irene had been friends with Jimin and Jungkook since primary school.  The three of them had gone to the same primary school, middle school and now senior school.

“There’s nothing going on Jimin,” Jungkook said dismissively.

“Nothing going on? Since when do you eat lunch with anyone other than me is what’s going on!” Jimin said a bit too loudly and the math teacher, Mr. Lee who was also their homeroom teacher shoot Jimin a look of ‘please don’t talk, otherwise I will need to give you detention’ look. 

But when Mr. Lee turned his back to continue his explanation on differentiation, Jimin turned back to Jungkook and said, “Irene said she never saw you smiling like you did when you were with Seulgi.”

Jungkook wanted to retort back but at this stage he also noticed that Mr. Lee had turned to face the class so he didn’t bother answering Jimin.

He found it strange himself.  Why was he going to all the trouble of getting to know Seulgi?  Mr. Lee had told him to get her settled into class but
