Letting You Go
A/N: Ok, I'm going to write my note at the start for this chapter so that people don't get all confused. Anyway, as expected, after the site crashed and burned for more than a day, it claimed some casualities, like 2 of my chapters from this story (for example). I'm working on reposting them now (I can't be more thankful for word now). And yes, there will also be a new chapter update (which was supposed to go up when the site first crashed).
I'm pretty sure they restored the site to the state it was in quite a few days ago because I had to re-accept friend requests and some of my wall posts as well as comments have disappeared.
I wish I could remember all of the comments and posts that were written so that I could still reply them but I really can't. So I apologise for that! If you happen to remember what you wrote, please do post them again ^^
==================
You had woken up to a new text from Kibum saying that he was going to record for a music program and asking what you had planned for the day. You sent him a reply and then spent most of the morning unpacking and sorting out the clothes and other items in your luggage. You also did some extra cleaning since you weren’t sure what was actually cleaned. You mopped the floor, cleaned the bathroom and even washed the dishes just to be sure.
Surprisingly, you finished all that pretty quickly since you were so accustomed to doing such chores. Minhyuk had woken up while you were doing the dishes and was now sitting in front of the television watching spongebob and eating his cereal.
The both of you set off to the hospital after you had made some porridge for your mom. It was just a simple porridge since you didn’t actually bring much food stuff and you hadn’t had the chance to do the groceries.
Your mom was really happy when she saw that you had cooked some food for her. She ate almost all the porridge and side dishes that you brought and then spent the rest of the time playing with and getting to know her grandson. She looked happier than you’ve ever seen her. When Dr. Kim came around to check on your mom, you took the opportunity to talk to him about what sort of food you should prepare for your mom so that she would recover faster.
You and Minhyuk only left the hospital in the late evening after your mom had practically chased you out of the room. She seemed to be in much better spirits and had more colour on her face so you didn’t feel too worried for leaving early. You took the chance to explore your neighbourhood and at the same time, kept your eye out for any job vacancies.
You popped by the usual mart that you used to do your groceries and the ahjumma actually recognised you. She also didn’t seem too surprised at the little boy tottering around you and even gave him a lollipop as a treat, which Minhyuk happily received. “Thank you, ahjumma.” He said and even tried to do a slight bow but lost his balance and it ended up just being cute.
“Aigoo. -------ah, your son is so adorable!”
“How-….?” You said a little dumbly.
“He looks so much like you! Well, except for the nose.” She added as she took a closer look at Minhyuk. “How old is he?”
You looked at Minhyuk instead of answering. “Minnie, how old are you?” You asked.
“Two…” He held out two fingers as well to emphasize what he said. “…plus.” He ended with a smile.
You laughed and ruffled the top of his head. “He’s 2 years and 3 months now.” You answered the ahjumma.
“Ah.. this might be a little personal but did you leave because of him?” She asked. There was absolutely no malice in her voice so you decided to answer her.
“He was only a small part of the reason. The main reason why I left is because I was offered a scholarship overseas.” You answered kindly.
“That’s wonderful. So you’ve graduated already? That’s why you’re back?” She probed.
“I’m still studying but I had to come back to handle some family matters.” You chose to give a vague answer in hopes that she won’t probe anymore.
Thankfully, she seemed to understand and didn’t press you for answers. You left Minhyuk at the counter with her, since he didn’t seem to mind the ahjumma’s company, and walked down the various isles to get the items that you needed.
That night, while you were trying to Minhyuk to fall asleep, he suddenly asked, “Omma, is halmoni going to be ok?”
You looked down at him and smiled. “Yes, sweetie. Halmoni is going to be ok. Halmoni just needs to take her medicine and rest for a few more days. Don’t worry. Are you not sleepy?”
He shook his head and his lips formed a small pout.
“Hmm. Do you want me to read to you then?” You suggested and his face lit up at once.
You chuckled and went to get his books before motioning for him to come and sit in front of you. When he had settled himself comfortably on your lap, you held up the three books that you had brought over. “Which one do you want to read today?”
He thought for a brief moment before he pointed to his favourite book. “Alright! Peter Rabbit it is.” You leaned back against the headboard and Minhyuk leaned against your chest as you opened the storybook and started reading.
“In a snug little burrow beneath a tall fig tree, in the heart of the wood, there lived a family of rabbits…..”
.
.
.
“First, Peter ate some juicy fresh lettuces. Then, he gobbled some crunchy green beans-“ You felt a soft thud against your chest. You smiled as you looked down to see that Minhyuk had already fallen asleep. You carefully closed the book and put it aside before placing him under the covers.
You reached over to your bedside table for your phone to set an alarm for the next morning and realized that you hadn’t heard from Kibum all day.
To: Cupcake
How did the recording go? Is Jinki oppa any better today?
Before you even placed the phone back on the table, it vibrated in the palm of your hand.
From: Cupcake
The recording went well. We’re still at practise though because we still haven’t perfected the choreography without hyung. We have another recording tomorrow. What do you have planned? Do you want to come by and visit?
To: Cupcake
I didn’t have much planned except visiting my mom but I’ll ask Minhyuk if he’d like to go tomorrow morning, since he’s already asleep. Will that be too late?
From: Cupcake
Nope. It’s fine. We’ll be there from early in the morning until late afternoon so you can come by anytime. Just let me know if you’re coming and then I’ll give you the details. Also, if you decide to come, we can drop by the hospital together to visit your mom after we’re done.
To: Cupcake
Alright. I’ll let you know tomorrow. I’m going to bed now. Hwaiting (화이팅)!
From: Cupcake
Ok. Good night, pumpkin! I hope I see you tomorrow.
You placed your phone back on the table and snuggled under the covers, falling asleep almost immediately.
