There was once a time when the moon was as warm as the sun, the earth never grew dark, and all of mankind lived lives unmarked by fear. Back then the moon and sun could walk upon the earth and side by side with man. Both were kings in their own rights, the brothers complete opposites of one another. The sun was bold, while the moon was the more quiet of the two.
The moon was very vain, for there were few that outshone the beauty of the glowing moon that hung in the heavens. The moon would cast his light upon the sea and gaze lovingly at his reflection, for surely there was no one more beautiful. Leta was the daughter of a goat farmer. Every night she ventured out to the river to comb out her hair that shone as white as the beams of the moon above, and as she bathed, the reflection of her hair on the water caught the eye of the moon, who had been staring at his own reflection in the water. Upon seeing Leta's long, white hair and beautiful face with eyes that were of coal, the moon was transfixed. If ever there was a woman more beautiful than the moon himself, then it was she. Back in those days the moon visited earth, and so he ventured down from the heavens each night as a man to court the fair maiden with whom he had fallen hopelessly in love with. Leta, despite her fair appearance, had a heart of stone, and was not moved by her suitor's advances. One day, the moon descended from the heavens to find she had
